1. SCOPE
The purpose of this report is to show the suitability of selection for power cable, which applies to High Voltage and Low Voltage level for Saudi Aramco Carbon dioxide Capture and Injection Facilities Project, Uthmaniyah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

3. DESIGN CONSIDERATION
3.1 System Voltage
For 13.8kV fed Loads, rated voltage of cable shall be 12/20kV. (Refer 15-SAMSS-502, Table-1)
For 5.1kV fed Loads, rated voltage of cable shall be 12/20kV. (Refer 15-SAMSS-502, Table-1)
For 0.48kV fed Loads, rated voltage of cable shall be 0.6/1kV. (Refer SAES-P-104, Section-5.3)
3.2 Criteria for Cable Selection
The sizing of power cable shall be based on the following considerations
Current carrying capacity of cables shall be in accordance to the respective load current.
Voltage drop during steady state operating conditions.
Voltage drop during motor startup conditions. (Applicable for motorized loads only)
Short circuit withstand capacity
For VFD operated motors with locked rotor amps of 110% of full load current is considered. (Refer 16-SAMSS-512 Clause-8.1.2)
For LV motors with DOL, starting current 600% of load current is taken into account with a power factor 0.2 during starting.
3.3 Design Conditions
Outdoor Exposed to Sun (for exposed cables, cables in conduit, and cables in uncovered cable trays)
Design Temperature : 60 C (Refer SAES-P-104 Section12.2)
Outdoor Shaded (for exposed cables, cables in conduit, and cables in cable trays in the shade)
Design Temperature : 50 C (Refer SAES-P-104 Section12.2)

Therefore, the Temperature Conditions applied for CO2 Project shall be as follows:
- Aboveground Cable Installation : 50 0C
- Underground Cable Installation : 40 0C
3.4 Current Carrying Capacity of Power Cables
The power cables for Uthmaniyah shall be laid in cable trays along the main cable route considering single layer laying following correction factors as per cable vendor catalogues shall be applicable.
Ambient temperature correction factor
Grouping correction factor
The power cables from main cable tray to the respective individual load shall be buried directly; following correction factors shall be applicable:
Ground temperature correction factor
Depth of laying
Soil thermal resistivity correction factor
Cable grouping correction factor
Furthermore, based on the above correction factors the ampacity of each respective cable based on cable vendor catalogue. (Refer Attachment-1)
3.5 Average Earth Thermal Resistivity
Maximum average earth thermal conductivity values from the thermal conductivity test report is 0.32 w/mK. Calculated thermal resistivity will be 1/0.32 = 3.125Km/watt.
As per SES-P-104, CL. 12.3 If the soil thermal resistivity value is more than 120 c-cm/watt, than calculated value of thermal resistivity need to be followed

3.7 Cable Type
Cables for CO2 Project will be manufactured and sized as per IEC Standard.
3.7.1 Definition of Rated Voltages U0/U (Um) for cable is as follows:
U0 rated phase to ground voltage for which the cable is designed.
U rated phase to phase voltage for which the cable is designed.
Um highest system voltage for which the cable may be used (IEC

4. CALCULATIONS AND BASIS FOR SHORT CIRCUIT WITHSTAND CAPACITY OF POWER CABLES
4.1 Data for 13.8kV and 4.16kV System
4.1.1 Rated switchgear short circuit currents
13.8kV System : 42kA rms
480kV System : 65kA rms
4.1.2 Total operating time of VCB feeder of 13.8kV with the inclusion of protection relay shall be as follows:
Relay Operating Time : 5 cycles
CB Interrupting Time : 5 cycles
Total Operating Time : 10 cycles (0.17 Second)
As per SAES-P-104, CL. 12.6.6 for medium voltage cables, fault duration time shall be a minimum of 110% of the clearing time of the protective device providing backup protection to the cable.
Total fault withstand time for MV cables:
= 1.1 x (Coordination time interval + Total CB operating time)
= 1.1 x (0.35+0.17) sec
=0.572 sec
4.1.4 Total operating duration for 480 V motor feeders.
As per SAES-P-104, CL. 12.6.6 for low voltage cables, fault duration time shall be a minimum of 110% of the clearing time of the protective device providing primary protection to the cable.
Total fault withstand time for LV cables:
= 1.1 x Total CB operating time
= 1.1 x 0.17 sec

5.1 For 13.8kV VCB Feeder For VFD

Conclusion: The above mentioned length is the max cable length for which the 3C-50Sq. mm cable can be laid for a load of 30kW provided the voltage drop along the power cable is under 5% as per the defined criteria, thus fulfilling the requirements of SAES-P-100.
5.4 Verification of Voltage drop criteria in terms of motor starting
For motor starting the voltage at the terminals of the motor being started should not drop below 85% of the nominal voltage the criteria has been verified in each of the selection table using the following formulation:

Special Note
Voltage drop verification of cable for the motor starting interval is carried out considering 600% full load amps and a power factor of 0.2 for DOL; however for VFD 110% of full load amps and a power factor of 0.2 are considered to simulate the starting conditions. Furthermore, the detailed simulation for motor starting is provided in etap simulated motor starting analysis.

5.5 Verification of Ampacity
Ampacity value given in vendor catalogue (Attachment 1-1) standard operating condition were corrected as per the site condition & the installation methods defined in Attachment 1-2.

6. CONCLUSION
This report is prepared to clarify the cable sizing basis for Inlet & Gas Treatment Project application. Saudi Cable Vendor was selected for supplier of LV & MV cables. The cable ampacity, installation method and cable derating factors are provided by Cable Vendors.
