If you’re a fan of a high-scor-ing basketball game, then youeither are glad youmissedNorthville’s victory overPlymouth last week or youbemoaned the defensive strug-gle the entire time you were inattendance.TheMustangs, coached by
Todd Sander, earned a victoryin the KLAA tournament with a37-34 victory over theWildcats. From the start, it was a game
of strong defense and toomanyturnovers as theMustangsfound themselves trailing theirfoes, 8-6, heading into the sec-ond quarter. That period ofplay wasn’t muchmore condu-cive to a scoring environmentand the two teams continued toply successful defensive strate-gies against one another. North-ville’s consistent play, however, kept theWildcats from puttingin too many points and helpedthem chip into the lead by onepoint. The team headed into thelocker room trailing, 15-14.
“I am so proud of how ourguys fought tonight,” saidSander. “We knew that Plym-outh would come at us witheverything they had, and anywin against them is a good one. They play so tough.”The third quarter found a dif-
ferent Northville squad takingto the floor— an energized andoffensively-minded team thatmade all the difference in thevictory effort. Northville playedin a tight 2-3 zone to help keeptheWildcats at baywhile theiroffensive pressure, assisted by
strong inside play by StewardHenzi and outside shooting byBrettMacDonald, let themgoon a 7-0 run to start the half.Northville capped it off
with two steals by AndrewMeacham and Jeff Gertley thatwere converted into points, fol-lowed by a strong rebound andput back byMeachamwithtime expiring to give his squad
a 31-21 lead going into the finalquarter.Northville’s defenseheldon for
