NARRATIVE CV
With a broad range of experience through grass roots, bilateral, and multilateral agencies, Ms. Aya
Ishizuka brings with her over ten years as a global health and development specialist in resource poor
settings. She began her career as a health education volunteer in rural Nepal, where she witnessed firsthand
the difficulties in ensuring adequate health services and healthy life for its citizens when the government’s
priorities are not necessarily focused on health. Since then, she has been an advocate for delivering basic
health services to the most vulnerable and bringing health as a priority agenda in the countries she has
served. She has worked as a Global Health Associate at a health advocating NGO, RESULTS Japan, a
Health Specialist at the World Bank, and an Associate Health Expert at Japan International Cooperation
Agency before switching over to a career in research.
She is currently a fulltime Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo’s Department of Global Health
Policy where she has researched into the role of Japanese leadership in the area of global health. She is also
an Adjunct Lecturer at Aoyama Gakuin University, where she was formerly an Assistant Professor, and a
part-time Research Fellow of Institute for Global Health Policy Research (iGHP) under the Bureau of
International Health Cooperation at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM). She
received her Master of Science in Health Management from Keio University.
