CCOMMUNITYOMMUNITY BBREADREAD BBASKETASKET Don’t forget non-perishable foods, soaps, paper products for distribution at our ecumenical food pantry. This month we are asked to bring toilet
paper. Bring them to the offering baskets to be presented at mass.
Please don’t forget to make your pledge or offering to the annual diocesan Catholic Sharing Appeal. As announced last week, this appeal is our participation in the collective ministries of our state wide church community. We support Catholic Charities in its service to those in need, the weekly broadcast of Sunday mass throughout the state, special educational
programs in our schools and religious education programs and other efforts to share the Gospel. Please help our parish reach our goal of $27,000—50% of which will be returned to us to be used for our own parish ministries. If you did not receive materials for the Appeal in the mail, please find a supply on the table in the back of the church.
CCATHOLICATHOLIC CCHARITIESHARITIES WWESTEST VVIRGINIAIRGINIA
CCWW, one of the ministries supported by the Catholic Sharing Appeal, was recently awarded a grant to be the first statewide Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach Grant. SNAP is
one of the most effective programs at helping needy families find nutritious and healthy meals for their families. CCWV with its large network of sites and parishes will be able to
reach a significant number of families and especially elderly folks who may benefit from the SNAP Outreach. There may be people in our parish or people we know who could use help
gaining access to healthier foods.
Are you or a loved one eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits? Not sure? SNAP benefits help people buy healthy food for their family every
month and Catholic Charities West Virginia may be able to help. West Virginians can call toll-free 1-844- 292-3217 Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to receive a free confidential eligibility screening. Sound complicated? Catholic Charities WV will pro-vide application assistance, as well. Getting SNAP benefits to all eligible people in West
Virginia is a critical step in ending hunger in our state. Visit ww.CatholicCharitiesWV.orgfor more
information.

This week: Sixth Sunday of Easter Acts 10:25-26, 34-35,44-48 1 John 4:7-10 John 15:9-7
Background: We continue today reading of Chapter 15 of John’s Gospel, part of the Long Farewell of Jesus to his Disciples. Picking up where we left off, the Master speaks of how we can “remain” or “abide in him. Now the focus, however, is by obeying his commandment to love one another. We can be assured that Jesus “remains” among us and in us by loving each
other as he loved us. We should note that Jesus does not make a request of his disciples to love one another, but rather he commands us to do so!
Next Week: The Feast of the Ascension
Acts of the Apostles 1:1-11 Letter to the Ephesians 1:17-23 Mark:16-15-20
Adult Bible Study
Fr. Larry leads an hour and 15 minute discussion of the coming week’s Gospel on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.
Blessing on All Mothers, Grand Mothers, About-to-be-Mothers, Want-to-be-Mothers,
and God-Mothers!
Even though we live in socially, economically and culturally changing times when the roles of parents have to be adjusted to meet new
demands and expectations, your work in helping to shape the emotional, moral and religious character of your children remains
critical. So many of you now must work outside the home to support your family, and many of you want to do so for you own fulfillment and career development. Still the need to spend quality time with your children presses on you. We honor your efforts! We respect your struggle! We appreciate your faithfulness! We also notice how tired you can sometimes become and how hard it can be to juggle
schedules and the emotional needs of everyone, including your own. While you must take care of your children, make sure you take care of you, too! Your children need a mentally, physically and spiritually healthy mother! If you are married, make sure you take care of your marriage, too. The best thing you
can do for your children is love their father so they can see and live in the midst of a strong, loving marriage; this will serve them immeasurably as they themselves grow into adulthood. Go out on dates
with your hubby—the kids will survive without you for a Saturday now and again; your marriage may not! And yes, bring the little darlings to church with you. They need to see that God and his people, his word and the Holy Eucharist are important to you. There’s nothing like the example of Mom (and Dad) to show the way. You know how important routines are to family life: Sunday morning or evening, or
Saturday night, mass routines are likewise. Maybe a Sunday 6 pm mass routine followed by family-pizza-night or pasta or whatever favorite food becomes tradition. Moms, you are the leaders! And you are loved! Loved not just because you gave birth to certain children. Your are loved because of how your love has shaped families. You are also loved because your love has shaped individuals who have gone
on to shape our community and our society. The values you developed in you children are the ones they carried into their adult lives, into their marriages and families, into their businesses and community. May God bless you on this Sunday we have set aside to honor all of you. May God keep you healthy.
May God give you satisfaction in your vocation as a Mother.
