AwardOverview

TheInternationalSmartGridActionNetwork(ISGAN),inpartnershipwiththeGlobalSmartGridFederation(GSGF),haslauncheditsthirdannualAwardofExcellencecompetition(“Competition”)torecognizeexcellenceinsmartgridprojects,policiesandprogramsaroundtheworld.Byrecognizingexemplarsintheglobalsmartgridcommunity,theCompetitionacceleratesglobalexchangeofbestpracticesandpromotesreplicationoradaptationofprovenconceptsinothermarkets,countries,andregions.Italsocontributestoimprovingglobalunderstandingofthevalueofferedbysmartgridsystems.

EachyearoftheISGANAwardofExcellencecompetitionfocusesononeormoretopicalthemeschosentohighlightacriticalaspectofsmartgridprojects,policies,andprograms.Thethemeforthe2016Competitionis“ExcellenceinSmartGridsforReliableElectricityService,”inrecognitionofthecriticalrolethatsmartgridtechnologies,practicesandsystemscanplayinmakingelectricitygridsandservicemorereliable.Ingeneral,amorereliablegridhasfewerandshorterinterruptionsofserviceandisbetterpreparedtorecoverfromadversegrideventssuchassevereweatherormaliciousattacks.

ISGANencouragesentitiesengagedinsmartgridsorgridmodernizationtosubmit,forawardconsideration,projectsthatexhibitexcellenceinuseofsmartgridstoimprovegridreliability.

ProjectsenteredintothisCompetitionareeligiblealsotowinthe“GSGFBestSmartgridProjectAward,”subjecttorulesandconditionsasdeterminedbyGSGF.Forits2016

GSGFBestSmartgridProjectAward,GSGFhasstateditsintenttorecognizeexemplarsinuseofinformationandcommunicationstechnology(ICT)toimprovegridreliability.1

Projectswinningthe2016AwardofExcellencewillberecognizedduringaformalceremonytargetedforJune1,2016attheseventhCleanEnergyMinisterial(CEM7)inSanFrancisco,California,USA;oneormorerepresentativesfromthesewinningprojectswillbeinvitedandexpectedtoattend2.WinningprojectswillalsobefeaturedinkeyISGANandGSGFprogramsandproceedings.WinnerswillbegrantedalimitedindividuallicensetoadvertiseandpromotetheawardgrantedtotheprojectandalimitedrighttouseandrefertotheISGANAwardofExcellencemark(i.e.,thelogo)andthephrase“ISGANAwardofExcellenceWinner”,subjecttotheOfficialRulesforthisCompetitionandanyguidelinespublishedbytheCompetitionAdministrator(the“Administrator”).

Projectsatanyandallgridscales(e.g.,bulktransmission‐level,distribution‐level,behindthemeter,etc.)willbeconsideredforthe2016AwardofExcellence,includingprojectsthatbridgetransmission‐anddistribution‐levelsystems,aslongtheyusesmartgridtechnologies,practices,orsystems,broadlydefined,toimprovegridreliability.ThewinningprojectsandfinalawardcategorieswillbedeterminedbyanexpertjudgingpanelassembledfortheCompetition.

AboutISGAN

TheInternationalSmartGridActionNetwork(ISGAN)waslaunchedatthe2010CleanEnergyMinisterialmeetinginWashington,D.C.,USA,asaplatformtoaccelerateprogressonkeyaspectsofsmartgridpolicy,technology,andrelatedstandardsaroundtheworld,andformallyorganizedundertheImplementingAgreementforaCo‐operativeProgrammeonSmartGrids(ISGAN)in2011underaframeworkoftheInternationalEnergyAgency(IEA).Throughthevoluntarysupportofitsparticipatinggovernmentsandaffiliatedinstitutions,ISGANaimstopromoteabetterunderstandinggloballyofthevaluethatsmarter,cleanerelectricitysystemscanbring,improvebestpracticeexchange,enhanceopportunitiesforpeer‐to‐peerlearning,andaddressgapsinrelatedknowledgeandtools.Aspartofitsmission,ISGANestablishedtheannualAwardofExcellencecompetitionin2014torecognizeandshowcaseexemplarsinsmartgridprojects,policies,andprograms.ISGANisformallyorganizedastheImplementingAgreementforaCo‐operativeProgrammeonSmartGrids(ISGAN)underaframeworkoftheInternationalEnergyAgency(IEA).MoreinformationonISGANcanbefoundatwww.iea‐isgan.org.ForinformationontheCleanEnergyMinisterialandCEM7,pleasevisitwww.cleanenergyministerial.org.

Descriptionof2016AwardTheme

Well‐functioningelectricitygridsareanincreasinglycriticalinfrastructureforthemodernglobaleconomy.Aroundtheworld,ascountriesmovetoincreasetheireconomicgrowth,improvethecomfortandwell‐beingoftheircitizens,andaddresscriticalchallengeslikeenergypovertyandclimatechange,theirdependenceonreliable,consistentelectricityserviceisincreasing.Nevertheless,eachyear,electricityoutagesanddisturbances–orinmanylocales,lackofconsistentelectricityservice–resultinbillionsofdollarsinlostproductivity,foodspoilage,publichealthandsafetyhazards,inconveniencefromscheduledisruptions,andotherdamages.Theimportanceofensuringorimprovingthereliabilityofthegridandthequickrestorationofelectricityserviceafteraninterruptioncontinuestogrow.Smartgridtechnologiesandapproachescanhelpreducethefrequencyanddurationofoutagesandincreasingsystemreliability,yieldingsignificantbenefits,botheconomicandotherwise,forelectricitycustomers,utilities,andsocietyatlarge.

Inrecognitionofthecriticalimportanceofsustainingareliablegridandtherolethatsmartgridscanplaytoimprovegridreliability,ISGANhaschosen“SmartGridsforReliableElectricityService”asthethemeofthe2016AwardofExcellence.Extendingthistheme,forits2016BestSmartgridProjectAward,GSGFplanstorecognize,specifically,exemplars,inuseofinformationandcommunicationstechnology(ICT)toimprovegridreliability(subjecttorulesandconditionsassetbyGSGF)3.

ISGAN’sactivitiessupportdevelopmentofabetterglobalunderstandingofthevaluethatsmarterelectricitysystemscanbring,addressgapsinrelatedknowledgeandtools,andcreateopportunitiesformorepeer‐to‐peerlearningandengagement.

Reliability:assuringandimprovingsecurityandqualityofsupply,consistentwiththedemandsofthedigitalage,withfewerandshorteroutagesand,forpurposesofthisCompetition,includinggridresilience,asintheabilitytoreboundquicklyandefficientlyfromadverseevents,naturalormanmade,andtoanticipatefuturehazardsanduncertainties.

CostEffectiveness:improvingoperatingefficiencies,betterutilizingexistinginfrastructure,delayingneedfornewinvestmentsingridinfrastructure,reducingnetworklosses,andprovidingbesteconomicvaluethroughinnovation,efficientenergymanagementand“levelplayingfield”competitionandregulation.

WhoShouldApply?

Thefocusoftheawardistorecognizeoneormoreprojectsthatexhibitexcellenceinfacilitatingandimprovinggridreliabilityusingsmartgridtechnologies,systems,andapproaches.4ISGANisencouragingapplicationsbyentitiesandteamsthathaveimplementedorareimplementingprojectsthatemploysmartgridstohelpimproveorensurethereliabilityofelectricityservices.Anacceptableprojectcouldemployanynumberofsmartgriddevices,systemsorapproachestohelpfacilitategridreliability,suchas(butnotlimitedto)sensing,communicationsandcontrolinfrastructure,dataanalysisanddecisionsupport,educationalprogramsforelectricityconsumers,emergingstandardsandprotocols,cybersecuritymeasuresthataddressthreatstoaninterconnectedgrid,enterprisearchitectureappliedtoelectricgridoperation,ortrainingprograms.Forthiscompetition,reliabilityisdefinedbroadlyandcanincludegridresiliency,asintheabilitytoreboundquicklyandefficientlyfromadverseevents,naturalormanmade,andtoanticipatefuturehazardsanduncertainties.Examplesofthewaysthatsmartgridscanimprovegridreliability(includingresiliency)canbefoundintheFrequentlyAskedQuestions(FAQ)forthisCompetition,availableathttp://www.iea‐isgan.org.

AsubmittedprojectdoesnotneedtobesolelyfocusedongridreliabilitytobeeligibleforthisCompetition;however,thistopic(i.e.ensuringorimprovinggridreliability)mustbeasignificantprojectelementandthefocusoftheawardapplication,andsmartgridsmustbe 4 A glossary of terms is provided in Appendix 1 to assist in understanding the award scope and avoid confusion in the submission and review process.

employedaspartoftheproject.Forinstance,aprojectfocusedonthedeploymentofadvancedmeteringinfrastructure(AMI)toreduceenergytheftcouldbeacceptableifandonlyifitcanbedemonstratedthatthesetechnologiesalsohelpedfacilitategridreliabilityandtheCompetitionapplicationfocusesonthoseaspects.Inaddition,theCompetitionisnotlimitedtolarge‐scale,deployment‐levelprojects.Smaller,innovativepilotprojectsthataddresscriticalchallengesandmightleadtosignificantimpactsifimplementedatscaleareeligibleandencouragedtoapply.

Anyentityorteamofentitiesmayapply,butonlyoneentryperprojectwillbeallowed.Tothatend,forprojectsimplementedbyateamofentities(e.g.,aconsortiumofcompaniesorapartnershipamonggovernment,industryandcivilsociety),asingleentityshouldbedesignatedasthe“SubmittingEntity”andtheremainderoftheteamlistedas“PartnerEntities”(collectively,“theApplicant”).Similarly,itisanticipatedthattheteamresponsiblefortheproject,theApplicant,willberepresentedforpurposesofcommunicationbyasingle“PointofContact”(“POC”)whoispartoftheSubmittingEntity.

Althoughitisnotrequirednorexpectedthattheprojectbefullycompletedatthetimeofawardapplication,itisexpectedthattheprojecthasdemonstrableresults,supportedbyevidence,toallowanexpertjudgingpaneltomakeareasonedjudgmentaboutthestrengthoftheprojectmeasuredagainsttheEvaluationCriteriadescribedbelow.Toensurethattheprojectresultsarecurrentandrelevant,onlyprojectsthatwereactiveduringorafter2011willbeconsidered.

AlthoughISGANoperatesasaTechnologyCollaborationProgrammeunderaframeworkoftheIEA,theawardisnotrestrictedtoactivitieshostedwithinorbyIEAmembernations.Applicationsfromentitiesinemerginganddevelopingeconomieswillalsobeacceptedandare,infact,encouraged.

CompetitionPeriod

Nominationspackages(“Submissions”)fortheISGANAwardofExcellence,mustbesubmittedby23:59UTC,5March13,2016.OnlythoseSubmissionsthatareconsistentwiththeOfficialRuleswillbeacceptedforconsideration.

HowtoEnter

TheSubmittingEntityshallassembleanOfficialProjectSubmissionForm(includinganyrelevantattachments)thatprovidestheinformationdescribedinthe“ContentofSubmission”below.ThisdocumentshallbesubmittedinapdfformattotheAdministrator,viaelectronicmailataward@smartgrid.or.kr,nolaterthanthesubmissiondeadline.

ReviewofSubmissions

TheAdministratorwillrevieweachSubmissiontoensuretheymeettheminimumrequirementsasdescribedunder“ContentofSubmission”below.TheAdministrator(and/oritsagents)may,atitsdiscretion,contacttheSubmittingEntity(viathePOC)toscheduleateleconferencecallorsimilarinteractiontovalidateinformationandclaimsintheSubmission.Submissionsthatdonotmeettheminimumrequirementswillberejected.ApplicantsarepermittedtoaddresstheproblemswithrejectedSubmissionsandsubmitthemagainforre‐considerationatanytimeuptothefinaldeadlinelistedabove.

SelectionofAwardWinner(s)

TheAdministratorwillconveneaqualifiedexpertjudgingpanel(the“Jury”)assembledbyISGANincooperationwiththeGSGF.TheJurywillreceivethequalifiedSubmissionsfromtheAdministrator,includinganyadditionalinformationobtainedbytheAdministrator(and/oritsagents)viaateleconferencecallorothercommunicationswiththeSubmittingEntity.TheJurywillindividuallyandcollectivelyreviewtheSubmissions,judgingthemusingtheEvaluationCriteriadescribedbelow,inordertoselectawinningSubmission(s)(“WinningProject(s)”).ASubmission’slikelihoodofwinningwilldependprimarilyonthenumberandqualityofalloftheSubmissions,asdeterminedbytheJuryusingtheEvaluationCriteria.

TheAdministratorand/ortheJurymay,attheirdiscretion,utilizetheAdministrator(and/oritsagents)tocontacttheSubmittingEntity(viathePOC)toclarifyinformationortoobtainadditionalinformationasneededfortheJurytomakeareasonedjudgmentonthestrengthoftheprojectmeasuredagainsttheEvaluationCriteriadescribedbelow.

Upontheconclusionofitsreview,theJurywillprovidetheAdministratorwiththeresults,identifyingtheWinningProject(s).

EachindividualmemberoftheJuryhastherighttowithdrawwithoutadvancenoticeintheeventofcircumstancesbeyondhis/hercontrol.EachindividualmemberoftheJurymustnotifytheAdministratorinwritingifhe/shehasanysubstantialpriorknowledgeof,or

EvaluationCriteria

SubmissionsmustalignwithISGANmissionto“toaccelerateprogressonkeyaspectsofsmartgridpolicy,technology,andrelatedstandards.”Submissionswillbeassessedaccordingtothefollowingcriteria,attheweightingslisted:

Potentialimpact(50points)‐Thepotentialimpactoftheproject,includingitsapproach,design,implementation,andsimilarelements,inparticularrelatedtotheinfluenceofsmartgridsonimprovementstoreliability(measuredwhenpossibleintermsofreducednumberofoutagesordisturbances,reduceddurationofoutagesordisturbances,orothercommonly‐usedmetrics)aswellasthemagnitudeofrealizedsocio‐economicbenefits(e.g.,numberofpeopleaffectedbyimprovements,levelofimprovementtounderservedpopulations,etc.).

Economicrationale(50points)‐Thedegreetowhichtheprojectortheconceptsunderlyingtheprojectexhibitstrongevidenceofdirectorindirecteconomicbenefitssuchas(butnotlimitedto)acompellingandeffectivebusinesscase,avoidedeconomiclosses,orexpansionofvalue‐addedservices,whetherthetargetedstakeholdersfortheprojectareend‐usercustomers(residential,industrial,commercial),theutility,thedistributionsystemoperator,networkowners,energytraders,generators,orothers.

Potentialforreplicationoradaptation(50points)‐Thedegreeandeasewithwhichtheprojectattributescanbereplicated,adaptedorscaledtoothermarkets,environments,and/orcountriestoimprovegridreliabilityusingsmartgrids,takingintoaccountkeyattributessuchas(butnotlimitedto)thecostsofimplementation,prevailingregulatoryenvironmentanddepthofinter‐institutionalcooperationrequired.

Innovation(25points)‐Thedegreetowhichoneormoremajorprojectelementsisnew,novel,andpotentiallyhighlyeffectiveortransformative.

Otherbenefits(25points)‐‐Thedegreetowhichsmartgridtechnologies,systems,andapproachesaddvalueandproducenon‐economicbenefits,directlyorindirectly,acrossoneormoresocietal,environmental,healthandsafety,communityorotherdimensionnotconsideredinthecriteriaabove.

1. Titleoftheproject;

2. BriefProjectDescription,describingtheproject,suchastheprincipalobjectives(relatedtoconsumerengagementandempowerment),scope,keyimplementationattributes,andkeyoutcomes,aswellashowtheprojectrelatestothetheme,“SmartGridsforReliableElectricityService”;

3. BackgroundandImplementation,describingthecontextfortheprojectaswellastheproject’spurpose,approach,andconductrelatedtouseofsmartgridsforsupportingreliableelectricityservice;

4. ProjectOutcomes,describingtheoutcomesoftheproject,andhowtheprojectattributesandoutcomesexhibitexcellencewhenmeasuredagainsttheevaluationcriteria,supportedwheneverpossiblebyrelevantmetricsorotherperformanceindicators;

7. (ifapplicable)PartnerEntities'informationincludingtheirnames,associatedorganizationalURL,mailingaddress,andcontactinformation(mailingaddress,phone,e‐mailaddress)fortherepresentativepointofcontactforeachpartner(oneofwhomshouldbeidentifiedasthesecondarypointofcontactfortheApplicant.);and

TheSubmissionmustfocusonthesubstanceofhowthesmartgridprojectfacilitatesgridreliability,regardlessoftheoverallobjectiveoftheproject.TheprojectdetailedintheSubmissionmusthavebeenactiveduringorafter2011.OnlyoneSubmissionperprojectispermitted.

Asnotedabove,theprojectdescribedintheSubmission,andhowthesmartgridsfacilitateamorereliablegrid,shouldhavedemonstrableresults,supportedbyevidence,toallowtheJurytomakeareasonedjudgmentaboutthestrengthoftheprojectmeasuredagainsttheEvaluationCriteria.InpreparingtheOfficialProjectSubmissionForm,Applicantsmightconsidertheaspectsmentionedinthediscussionbelowofoptionalsupplementalinformation.

EnglishmustbeusedforprovisionofinformationintheOfficialProjectSubmissionForm.

AwardUseandRestrictions

ApplicantandWinneracknowledgethattheISGANAwardofExcellencemarkandallotherintellectualpropertyregardingtheCompetition(collectivelythe“ISGANIP”including

associated“BrandingMaterials”)areownedbytheAdministrator.Inthiscontext“Winner”includesallmembersidentifiedonawinningSubmissionasparticipantsinthatproject.ApplicantandWinneragreenottochallengeorseektoregisteranyintellectualpropertyassociatedwiththeCompetition.WinnerwillbegrantedalimitedindividuallicensetotheISGANIPtoadvertiseandpromotetheawardgrantedtotheprojectwhichwassubmittedforreviewfromthedateofaward.AlluseoftheISGANIPmustbeincompliancewiththeguidelinespublishedbytheAdministrator,asupdatedandpostedontheISGANwebsite(www.iea‐isgan.org/award2016/main),andasattachedtotheseOfficialRulesandincorporatedbyreference.WinneragreesnottousetheISGANIPormakeanymentionofwinninganawardthatisnotconsistentwiththeseguidelines,andtoimmediatelyceaseallinconsistentuseuponnoticebytheAdministrator.Winnermayonlypromotethatanawardpertainstoaspecificprojectwhichwasthesubjectoftheaward,andmaynotstateorimplythattheawardappliestoanyotherprojectsinwhichtheSubmittingEntity(orteammembersthereof,e.g.“PartnerEntities”)participates.WinnermaynotusetheISGANIPtostateorimplythattheAdministratororanyotherentityorpersonassociatedwiththeCompetitionendorseorareaffiliatedwiththeWinneroranyotherprojectsinwhichtheWinnerparticipated.

AwardCeremonyandPublicity

TheISGANAwardofExcellencefor2016istargetedtobeawardedduringaformalceremonyonJune1,2016attheseventhCleanEnergyMinisterial(CEM7)inSanFrancisco,California,U.S.A.OneormorerepresentativesfromeachWinningProjectwillbeinvitedandexpectedtoattend7.ApressreleasewillbepreparedforeachAward.ISGANreservestherighttochangethedateandlocationoftheawardceremony,ascircumstancesrequire.

Subsequenttotheawardceremony,theWinnermayutilizeBrandingMaterialsassociatedwiththeaward(e.g.thelogoandsummarydescription)providedthattheyearoftheawardandlinkagetothespecificprojectisalwaysapparent.AnyuseoftheISGANAwardofExcellencemark(i.e.,theawardlogo)willbeaccompaniedbythenameoftheprojectforwhichtheawardwasreceived,asanintegralpartoftheimage,unlessauthorizedinwritinginadvancebytheAdministrator.UtilizationofBrandingMaterialsissubjecttootherprovisionsintheOfficialRules.

Exceptwhereandasmaybeprohibitedbylaw,participationintheCompetitionconstitutesexpresspermissionofanApplicantfortheAdministrator(andthoseactingpursuanttotheauthorityoftheAdministrator)touseeachApplicant’snameandthefact‐of‐applicationfortheCompetitioninadvertising,trade,andpublicitypurposedfortheISGANprogramandtheCompetitioninallformsofmedianowknownorhereafterdiscoveredordevised,worldwide,inperpetuity,withoutfurthernotice,revieworapproval,orcompensation.

GeneralConditions

ByparticipatingintheCompetition,eachApplicantfullyandunconditionallyagreestoandacceptstheseOfficialRulesandthedecisionsoftheAdministrator,whicharefinalandbindinginallrespects.ByparticipatingintheCompetition,eachApplicantwaivesanyrighttoclaimambiguityintheseOfficialRules.AnApplicantisnotWinneruntilithasfullycompliedwiththeseOfficialRulesandbeenformallynotifiedbytheAdministratorthattheyhavebeenselectedasWinner.TheAdministratorreservestheright,initssoleandabsolutediscretion,tocancel,terminate,modify,extendorsuspendtheCompetition,(inwholeorinpart)shouldnon‐authorizedintervention,fraud,orothercausescorruptoraffecttheadministration,securityfairness,orproperconductoftheCompetition.Insuchcase,theAdministratormaygrantawardsfromalleligibleapplicationsreceivedfortheCompetitionpriortoand/orafter(ifappropriate)theactiontakenbytheAdministratororviasomeothermeansdeterminedbytheAdministratorinitssoleandabsolutediscretiontobefair,appropriateandconsistentwiththeseOfficialRules.TheAdministratorreservestherighttodisqualifyanyApplicantitdetermines,initssoleandabsolutediscretion,isorisattemptingorintendingto:

(a) tamperwithanyaspectoftheoperationoftheCompetition,

(b) defraudtheCompetition,

(c) underminethelegitimateoperationoftheCompetitionbycheating,deception,orotherunfairpractices,

(d) annoy,abuse,threaten,orharassanyotherparticipants,theAdministrator,anyrepresentativesofISGAN,oranyParticipantofISGAN,or

(e) actinviolationoftheseOfficialRules.

Insuchevent,theAdministratorreservestheright(inadditiontodisqualificationofsuchApplicant)toseekdamagesfromanysuchApplicanttothefullestextentpermittedbylaw.TheAdministrator’sfailuretoenforceanyprovisionoftheseOfficialRulesshallnotconstituteawaiverofthatprovision.AnyentitythatenterstheCompetitionthroughmeansnotpermittedbytheseOfficialRulesissubjecttodisqualification.TheAdministratorisnotrequiredtorespondtoquestionsabouttheCompetition.

GeneralReleaseandWaiverofClaims

ByenteringthisCompetition,eachApplicantherebyreleasestheAdministrator,ISGAN,itsparticipantsandalloftheirrespectiveparents,subsidiaries,affiliates,advertisingagencies,andalloftheirrespectivedirectors,officers,governors,employees,shareholders,andagents(collectively,the“Releasees”)from:

(a) anyandallliability,loss,harm,damage,cost,expense,orclaims,includingthirdpartyclaimsbasedonpublicityand/orprivacyrights,defamation,andintellectualpropertyassociatedwiththeApplicantorWinner’sparticipationinthisCompetition,andanyawardassociatedwiththisCompetition,and/oruseormisuseofanyawardinconnectionwiththeCompetition,including,butnotlimitedto,allreasonablecounselfeesandcourtcostsincurred

(b) anythingrelatedtotheCompetition,orexecutionofthisCompetition(orparticipationtherein),includingpreemption,cancellation,orrescheduling;and

(c) anythingthatmayoccurinconnectionwithacceptanceand/oruseoftheawardorwhileparticipatingintheCompetition,evenifcausedorcontributedtobythenegligenceoftheReleasees.

LimitationandLiability

NeithertheAdministrator,noranyotherReleasee,isresponsibleforlost,late,incomplete,stolen,misdirected,illegible,erroneousorincompleteapplications.NeithertheAdministrator,noranyotherReleaseeisresponsibleforanyincorrectorinaccurateinformation,whethercausedbyanApplicanttampering,orbyanyoftheequipmentorprogrammingassociatedwithorutilizedintheCompetition,andneithertheAdministratornoranyReleaseeassumesresponsibilityforanyerror,omission,defect,theft,destruction,orunauthorizedaccesstothematerialsrelatedtotheCompetition,orforanydamagetoanycomputerrelatedto,orresultingfrom,participatingintheCompetition.NoresponsibilityisassumedbytheAdministratorforlost,mutilated,incomplete,illegible,stolen,misdirected,erroneousordelayedentriesore‐mail;orforanycomputer,telephone,cable,satellite,network,electronicoron‐line/Internethardwareorsoftwaremalfunctions,failures,connections,oravailability,orgarbledorjumbledtransmissions,orserviceprovider/Internet/websiteuse,accessibilityoravailability,ortrafficcongestion,orunauthorizedhumanintervention,othererrorsofanykind,includingwithoutlimitation,testingresults,whetherhuman,mechanical,electronicornetwork,ortheincorrectorinaccuratecaptureofentryorotherinformationorthefailuretocapture,orlossof,anysuchinformation.Anyuseoftherobotic,macro,automatic,programmedorlikeentrymethodswillvoidallsuchentriesbysuchmethods.NoresponsibilityisassumedbytheAdministratorforanyincorrectorinaccurateinformation,whethercausedbyApplicants,websiteusers,testingorevaluatingindividualsororganizations,tamperinghacking,producttestingorbyanyoftheequipmentorprogrammingassociatedwithorutilizedintheCompetition;andnoneoftheReleaseesassumeanyresponsibilityforanyerror,omission,interruption,deletion,defectordelayintheoperationoftheCompetition.INNOEVENTWILLTHEADMINISTRATORORANYRELEASEEBERESPONSIBLEORLIABLEFORANYINJURIES,CLAIMS,ACTIONS,DAMAGES,LOSSES,ORLIABILITYOFANYKIND,INCLUDINGDIRECT,INDIRECT,INCIDENTAL,CONSEQUENTIAL,ORPUNITIVEDAMAGESRESULTINGFROMORARISINGFROMPARTICIPATIONIN,ORTHEPRODUCTION,

InternationalSmartGridActionNetworkGuidelinesforUseofIntellectualProperty

(1) Use of ISGAN Marks and References to the Competition.  SubjecttotheOfficialRulesfortheISGANAwardofExcellenceAwardsCompetition(the“Competition”),andusingthesamecapitalizedtermsasusedintheOfficialRulesunlessindicatedhereintothecontrary,pursuanttothesepoliciesandguidelines("Guidelines"),eachWinnershallhaveanon‐exclusive,non‐transferrable,restricted,revocablelimitedrighttouseandrefertothephrase“ISGANAwardofExcellenceWinner”(the"Phrase"),solelyinafactualmannerorcontext,andsolelyinconnectionwithmaterialsoractivitiesspecificallyrelatedtotheparticularwinningproject(the"WinningProject")that:

(a) havebeenpreviouslyreviewedandapprovedbytheAwardAdministratorinthefirstinstance;and

(b) mustcomplywiththeGuidelinesatalltimes.

OncetheuseofthePhraseandISGANnameinmaterialsoractivitieshasbeenapprovedbytheAwardAdministrator,subsequentmaterialsoractivitiesthatdonotalterormodifytheuseofthePhraseorISGANnameneednotbesubmittedforapproval.ExceptuponthepriorwrittenconsentoftheAwardAdministratorineachinstance,thePhraseandISGANnamemustonlybeusedinassociationwiththeWinningProjectassubmittedintheCompetition.Fortheavoidanceofdoubt,thePhraseandISGANnamemaynotbeusedinanywayorforanypurposeswhatsoeverinconnectionorassociationwithothernon‐WinningprojectsthatmaybeconsideredalternativesorderivativesoftheWinningProject.

ApplicantacknowledgesandagreesthattheISGANOperatingAgentshallhavethesolerightanddiscretiontodeterminewhetheranyactionshouldbetakentoterminateunauthorizeduseofthePhraseortheISGANname,orsettleanyproceedingbroughtbytheISGANOperatingAgenttoterminatesuchunauthorizeduse.AllproceedsfromanyenforcementactionshallbelongexclusivelytotheISGANOperatingAgent.ByparticipatinginthisCompetition,ApplicantagreesandherebygrantstheISGANOperatingAgentpermissiontousestatements,quotes,testimonials,photographs,designs,models,and/oranyothermaterial(s)providedbyApplicantaspartoftheCompetitionentry,aswellasApplicant'sname,photograph,likeness,and,ifapplicable,thenameofeligibleApplicant’scompanyandaffiliation,foradvertising,and/orpromotionalpurposes,consistentwiththeISGANmission,withoutanyadditionalcompensationtoeligibleApplicantunlessprohibitedbylaw.ApplicantretainsownershipoftheProjects'intellectualpropertyrightsintheCompetitionentry,subjecttoISGAN’srightstoreprint,display,reproduce,performandexhibittheCompetitionentryforadvertisingand/orpromotionalpurposes.ByparticipatinginthisCompetition,ApplicantagreesthatanymaterialsgeneratedbyISGAN,itsagentorthoseactingatthedirectionoftheagent,inreviewingandaccessingtheProjectsisthesolepropertyoftheISGANOperatingAgent.
