To install the Interplay Central v1.3.1 patch on a non-clustered server:

1. Copy the installation zip file Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch.zip to a folder on the Interplay Central Services (ICS) server.

2. Enter the following command to unzip the archive:

unzip Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch.zip

A folder named Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch is created.

3. Enter the following command to navigate to the new folder:

cd Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch

4. Enter the following command:

./install.sh

The installation is updated.

To install the Interplay Central v1.3.1 patch on a clustered server:

1. Copy the installation zip file Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch.zip to a folder on one of the cluster nodes.

2. Enter the following command to unzip the archive:

unzip Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch.zip

A folder named Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch is created.

3. Enter the following command to navigate to the new folder:

cd Interplay_Common_Services_1.3.1_patch

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 on the other cluster node.

5. On either node, enter the following command to start the cluster monitor:

Installation and Upgrade Notes

9

Installation and Upgrade NotesChanges for Installation and Configuration

For Interplay Central v1.3, core services have been ported to a Linux server, which is also used for the Interplay Common Playback service. This change reduces configuration and maintenance requirements and provides failover capability.

The Interplay Central Distribution Service (ICDS) is installed on a server in the Interplay Production workgroup.

Interplay Central can be used in an Interplay Production-only environment, an iNEWS-only environment, or a combination of both. Media loggers and producers will usually work with Interplay Production, while journalists and editors will usually work with iNEWS, often with media managed by Interplay Production.

For all installation and configuration information, including ICDS, see the Avid Interplay Common Services Installation and Configuration Guide and the Avid Interplay Central V1.2.x to V1.3 Upgrade Guide.

Administration Features

Additional Documentation

This section includes additions or changes to the documentation published with Interplay Central v1.3.

Creating Sequences

Keep in mind the following rules when creating sequences that you want to associate with a story (referred to as a script sequence):

• When creating a new sequence that you want to associate with a story, first open the Sequence pane, then click the Open Sequence button to associate the sequence with the story.

Feature Description

User Management • An administrator can select multiple users in the User Tree for adding to groups or other tasks.

• An administrator can configure for LDAP Authentication from multiple domains.

• Names of roles are no longer case-sensitive and cannot be duplicated.

• An administrator can delete users or groups from a search results list.

System Settings The option “Location for Script Sequences” was moved from iNEWS system settings to Interplay Production system settings.

Playback Service settings have been added as a new Details tab.

User Management Utilities Tool The tool uses new syntax as a result of porting user management to the Linux server.

Additional Documentation

(ICAJ-2535) If a story does not have a sequence associated with it, and the Sequence pane is not displayed, clicking the Open Sequence button opens the Sequence pane. The pane is labeled “Sequence.” To create a sequence associated with a story, click the Open Sequence button again. The Sequence pane is labeled with the title of the story.

• You cannot create a sequence for a story unless the story has a title (labeled Slug).

• If the Autoload Sequence option is enabled, you can create a sequence by opening the Sequence pane and either clicking the Open Sequence button or navigating to a story that already has a title.

• If the Autoload Sequence option is disabled, you must create a sequence by opening the Sequence pane and clicking the Open Sequence button.

• The sequence is not created in the Interplay Production database until you drag the first clip into the Sequence pane.

• You cannot send a sequence to playback until a video ID is present.

Audio-Only and Video-Only Sequences

You can create and save a video-only advanced sequence (video track and no audio) or an audio-only advanced sequence (VO track and no video). However, send-to-playback and other workflows are not supported for video-only or audio-only sequences. The process fails with the following error message: “Remote STP process failed: Audio resolution selected but not found (in "wait mixdown" phase)”

Workaround: Add a blank audio track or blank video track to the sequence.

Multiple Loggers Working on the Same Sequence

Two or more media loggers can add markers to the same sequence. However, the loggers must limit their edits to the Markers pane and make sure no one else is editing the sequence. Any edits to the sequence (such as L cuts or trims) that are saved and checked in will overwrite the previously checked-in sequence, including markers not included in the edited sequence. Closing the Sequence pane can help avoid this problem.

Each media logger can refresh the Markers pane to display all saved markers, including those created by other loggers.

c As with master clips, there is no locking mechanism if two loggers are editing the same marker text. If two loggers are editing the same marker text, either one can save the marker, and the clip in the Interplay database updates with the last saved version. To display the latest saved version, click the Refresh button or press F5.

Fixed in Version 1.3.1

14

Fixed in Version 1.3.1User Features

Simple and advanced sequences created in Interplay Central and edited in Media Composer or other Avid editing systems were able to be opened and edited in Interplay Central. This could cause the edits made in Media Composer to be lost. This has been fixed. (EA-198, EA-177)

Double-clicking an asset in the Interplay Production view sometimes caused you to enter edit mode, which could cause you to unintentionally rename the asset. If the user had read-only rights in Interplay Production, the error message “Insufficient permissions” could be displayed. This has been fixed. (EA-165)

Administration Features

If there are no playback devices available from Interplay Transfer, you cannot create an STP profile and an error message is displayed. This has been fixed. (EA-190)

iPad and iPhone Apps

An updated version of Interplay Central for iPad and iPhone is available on the Apple iTunes Store. It includes the following enhancements:

• Edit toolbar background updated

• iPhone 5 tall screen support added

• Player UI controls for retina displays fixed

• iOS 6 and Presenter Mode page flipping issue fixed

• Minor User Interface issues fixed.

Fixed in Version 1.3User Features

Interplay Central v1.3 now supports ancillary data in both basic and advanced sequences. (UDevC00167906).

Interplay Central Search no longer requires a minimum of three characters but instead lets you search for one character and above.

n The more characters you provide, the faster your search will be completed.

The AirSpeed Classic video server is now supported for send-to-playback operations, including sequences composed of HD media.

Page 15: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.3

15

Playback of a clip while it is being captured (edit while capture or EWC) now works without intermittent slowdown and without video and audio out of sync. Playback stops when the playhead reaches approximately 1.5 minutes before the end of the currently recorded clip. (MPLAY-1639)

If you save a sequence with an audio-only clip, the sequence saves without an error message. (GRMT-6147)

In Chrome V23.0, a drag-and-drop operation to a segment in the Script editor works correctly (GRMT-6532)

In Safari, you can now drag and drop more than one production cue. (GRMT-6866)

AVC-Intra 1080i 60 media now plays back correctly in the Media pane. (MPLAY-1623)

Administration Features

In the Users layout, it is no longer possible to assign a role with administration layouts to a user or group without an Administrator role. (ICSDK-799).

Limitations in Version 1.3

Playback Services Settings

➤ Bug Number: MPLAY-499. In the Playback Services in the System Services layout, IP addresses for multiple ISIS System Directors must be separated by semicolons (;). The Details tab suggests using a comma-separated list, but this does not work.

Signing In

➤ Bug Number: ICML-2535. The first time an existing user signs in after a new installation, an error message might be displayed with the heading “com.avid.central.serices.authentication.um.SettingsException.” Workaround: Close the message box and the application opens.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1660. When an administrator logs in for the first time, the administrator needs to accept the EULA but then is not redirected to the first sign-in screen. Workaround: Sign out and sign in again.

Page 16: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.3

16

Sequences and Sequence Pane

➤ Bug Number: ICML-1934. If you open a script sequence created in Interplay Central V1.2 directly from the Asset list, the sequence opens as a read-only sequence and you cannot edit it. If you open the script sequence through an iNEWS story, you can edit the sequence.

➤ In Interplay Central v1.2, when you selected a text segment in a story, the corresponding area of the Sequence Timecode track became lighter. This feature is not currently available in v1.3.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1763. At times, if you close the Sequence Pane, the name of the pane stays grayed out in the Panes menu and you cannot open it. Workaround: Switch to another layout, and then return to the original layout to make the pane available again.

Safari on Macintosh

➤ (Macintosh keyboard shortcut) In Interplay V1.2 and earlier, pressing the Return key on a Macintosh loaded a selected asset into the Media Pane. In Interplay V1.3 and later, pressing the Return key lets you rename an item.

Subclips

➤ Bug Number: ICML-1845. If you add a subclip to the sequence timeline, you cannot trim the subclip outside the borders of the subclip. Workaround: Load the original master clip (optionally, using Match Frame) and create a new subclip that includes the material that you want.

➤ Bug Number: ICML-2236. If you are editing a clip during ingest from an Airspeed 5000, you cannot create a subclip from the a clip that is 12 minutes long or less.

Send to Playback

➤ Bug Number: ICTD-316. If a sequence includes a title effect, and you attempt to send it to a playback device, the job fails with an error message “Remote STP process failed.”

➤ Bug Number: WANW-2768. Send to playback of a Long GOP sequence fails if the send-to-playback profile specifies Direct Out and the sequence contains an odd number of audio tracks. Workaround: Use a profile with Audio Target Mixdown Mode set to Stereo.

Page 17: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.3

17

Restrictions

➤ Bug Number: EA-2. Interplay Central does not fully support restrictions. Interplay Central supports display of restrictions created in Interplay Assist but does not support creating, copying, and modifying restrictions. Referencing restrictions from the source master clip to subclips and sequences is not yet supported.

• When you create a subclip from a master clip that includes restrictions, the subclip copies the restrictions but does not reference them.

• When you add a segment with restrictions to a sequence, the restriction is not displayed in the sequence.

Assets Pane

➤ Bug Number: IPC-1936. If a sequence contains a video dissolve created in Interplay Central v1.3, the State column in the Assets pane does not show the supported for playback icon (green arrow). These sequences are supported for playback. If a dissolve was created by Media Composer and has not been rendered, the icon is correctly displayed.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1708. Double-clicking an asset name opens the asset in the Media pane but also puts you into edit mode for renaming the asset. To exit edit mode, press the Esc key. Workaround: Double-click the icon to load the asset.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1612. If you enter an invalid name when renaming the asset (such as one that uses illegal characters), the name of the assets reverts to the original name without any error message.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1317. You cannot paste an asset into an empty folder by using the Pane Menu command. Workaround: Paste using Ctrl + V.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1455. If you have an unsaved sequence and refresh the browser, you get a browser message that reads “Are you sure you want to reload this page?” If you click Don’t Reload, the Asset list becomes unresponsive. Workaround: Refresh the browser again and click “Reload this Page.”

Apps for iPad and iPhone

➤ Bug Number: ICMOB-1058. An Interplay Central Mobile or Tablet user cannot create or edit stories in a queue that includes the pipe sign (|) in the queue name.

Page 18: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.3

18

➤ Bug Number: ICMOB-1108. If a user account is created with the option “User must change password on next sign-in,” the user cannot sign-in to the Interplay Central Mobile or Tablet app. No message is displayed.

Mobile Apps

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1347. If a user with no roles assigned tries to sign in to a mobile application, an incorrect error message is displayed: “The user name or password you entered is incorrect.” Workaround: Contact the administrator to assign a role.

Drag and Drop Functionality

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1598. At times if you try to drag a tab to a different location, the tab stays highlighted but cannot be moved, even if you release the mouse button. Workaround: Click on the Pane Menu button.

Search Bar

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1691. When you perform a search using the Search toolbar, sort the results by some criterion and perform the search again, the search results are not sorted by this criterion. However, the corresponding column's header is marked as if it were sorted by the criterion.

➤ Bug Number: EA-163. A search of the Interplay Production database does not work for new Interplay Engine installations because there is no Deleted Items folder (trash can) available. No results are displayed and the error message “Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException: node” is written in the following log file:

/var/log/avid/avid-interplay-central/interplay_central_0.log

Workaround: In Interplay Access, import a small file asset (for example, an empty text file) by dragging it from the desktop to a folder (for example, Projects\Test). Then delete the file asset from Access, and the Deleted Items folder is created. The search should now be fully functional. The problem re-appears if the Deleted Items folder is emptied.

n This limitation also applies to searches in the Search pane.

Search Pane

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1571. A list of folders is not displayed after “Search Results for:” the caption. Only the search query is displayed.

Page 19: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.3

19

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1573. The folder tree is collapsed if you adds folders to search in, close the folder selection dialog box, and open it again. Workaround: Expand the folder tree manually.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1703. The Search returns no results when you open the Search pane, add a folder search criterion, but do not select a folder. Workaround: Remove the folder search criterion and perform the search again.

Safari 6

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1693. If you are not yet signed in to Interplay Central, paste in an iNEWS link (deep link) that does not include “/layout/layout_name” then sign in, the wrong location is opened.

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1694. An iNEWS link does not open if it refers to a layout that is not available to the user. One of the available layouts is opened instead.

Chrome and MOS Extension

The MOS extension plug-in installer that you can run from Interplay Central v1.3 does not work with Chrome v21 and later. Workaround: Go to the Chrome Web Store, search for MOS, click Extensions, and add “Avid MOS ActiveX hosting plugin” to your Chrome browser.

Chrome Frame and Interplay Explorer 9

➤ Bug Number: CORE-1643. If you are using Chrome Frame with Interplay Explorer 9, you cannot use an iNEWS link (deep link) more than once. The first time you open the link in the browser, the Interplay Central panes update correctly. If you try to open the link a second time, the Interplay Central panes do not update. Workaround: Close the browser and open it again.

➤ Bug Number: ICML-2462. If you are using Chrome Frame with Internet Explorer 9, and you right-click in the media viewer to access the Flash player settings, a message is displayed and tells you that the Flash plugin is not responding. If you click “Stop plugin” a message tells you that Flash has crashed. You can still load and play clips.

➤ Bug Number: ICAJ-2422. If you are using Chrome Frame with Interplay Explorer 9, and you click the microphone (Annotation) button in the Queue/Story pane to enable speech-to-text, Chrome Frame crashes and Internet Explorer displays a blank page.

Updating a Sequence after Delivery

When you create a sequence with clips that have been delivered from another workgroup through Interplay Delivery, the media status of the sequence is not automatically updated in the Interplay Production database.

• If a sequence consists completely of clips delivered from another workgroup, the status is displayed as offline. In Interplay Central, the sequence is shown in gray in the Asset pane.

• If a sequence consists of both delivered clips and non-delivered clips, the status is displayed as nearline.

Workaround: Load the delivered clips in Media Composer, use the Relink command, and check the clips in to Interplay Production again. Then either update the Media status in Interplay Access (Update Status from Media Indexer command) or check the sequence in from Media Composer again.

n The command “Update Status from Media Indexer” updates the online media status until the next checkin.

OMF Support

➤ OMF workflows are no longer supported in Interplay Central. OMF-wrapped media has to be converted to MXF prior to using it in Interplay Central. This limitation applies to video playback and to the sequence timeline.

Limitations in Version 1.0 and Later

Playback

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-5562. Interplay Central does not support consistent playback of 1:1 media, 1:1 10b, DnxHD 185-220X or DnxHD 175-185-220.

For more information on supported media resolutions, see the Interplay Common Playback Service Installation and Configuration Guide.

➤ When running many applications in the background, especially with CPU- or disk-intensive operations, video playback may be impaired, e.g. stuttering, audio spikes or video and audio running out of sync. In this case, run as few applications as possible and keep the browser in the foreground.

Page 21: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.0 and Later

21

Sequences

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-5858. If you build a script sequence and delete one or more of the master clips from the Interplay database before you save the sequence, you can still save it, but filler is substituted for the missing clips. A message warns you that some clips are missing.

Workaround: To resolve the problem, check the master clips in again or delete the missing clips from the sequence.

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-6205. If you create an advanced sequence in Interplay Central, open the sequence in Media Composer or NewsCutter, and then check it back in to Interplay Production, the sequence is no longer editable in Interplay Central. The next time you open the sequence in Interplay Central, the sequence editor displays it as a red clip in the Sequence Timeline, and all editing functionality is disabled. You can still play the sequence. This limitation does not exist for basic sequences.

Renaming Servers and SSL Certification

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-7596. Do not rename the Interplay Common Services server after software is installed. The default non-trusted self-signed certificate key store gets generated automatically on the first startup of the server and contains the hostname of the server at that time. If you later change the hostname, you need to update the corresponding information in the SSL certificate.

Workaround: If the server's hostname must be renamed, you must also adjust the hostname in the SSL certificate by stopping the Interplay Central Middleware Service, deleting the key store file at \AvidInterplayCentralService\ssl\jetty.keystore, and then restarting the service. This forces Interplay Central to create a new self-signed certificate.

n This adjustment is also necessary if the Interplay Common Services server is uninstalled and reinstalled.

Safari on Macintosh

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-7443. In Safari on OS X Lion, autocorrect of text immediately following a production cue can delete the production cue.

Workaround: Place a space after the production cue or disable “Correct Spelling Automatically” in Safari's Spelling and Grammar configuration.

Page 22: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.0 and Later

22

Multiple Tabs in an Interplay Central Session

➤ Bug Number: ICSDK-997. If you open multiple browser tabs within the same Interplay Central session, the updates to auto-refresh queues in the tabs opened earlier will no longer refresh.

(Version 1.2.x and earlier only) The Process pane, if opened in an earlier tab, will no longer receive updates about processes that are in progress.

Send to Playback

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-5184. Under some circumstances an administrator cannot create Send To Playback (STP) profiles in the System Settings layout. This typically happens when an administrator signs in to Interplay Central for the first time after a new installation, before any settings have been applied to the Users database. The administrator signs in, sets Interplay Production and iNEWS credentials, opens the System Settings layout, and specifies the Interplay Production database. If the administrator continues to the STP Details pane, no information is displayed and the administrator cannot create an STP profile.

Workaround: Sign out and sign in again to Interplay Central. Interplay Central can then get the Send To Playback information from the Interplay Production engine, and you can create an STP profile.

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-5307. If you send a sequence to playback from Interplay Central, a copy of the sequence with the extension .transfer is saved in a subfolder in the Sent to Playback folder in the Interplay Production database. This version of the sequence does not display a headframe.

Story Creation

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-6187. If you create a story in Interplay Central, save it, and then load it in Avid Instinct, you cannot play the story. Story segments are not shown

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-5527. If you are working on an edit-locked story and Interplay Central crashes for some reason, if you reopen Interplay Central soon after the crash and try to edit the story, you might get the error message “Unable to obtain edit lock. Story is currently locked by another user.”

Workaround: Sign out and sign back in. When you sign out, all stories locked by your original session are unlocked. Signing back in creates another session and allows you to edit the story. However, changes you made before the crash will be lost.

Page 23: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.0 and Later

23

iNEWS Workstations

➤ Workstations with legacy iNEWS client software earlier than version 3.3 should not be used to edit stories containing Interplay Central sequences or segment breaks.

Drag and Drop Functionality

➤ Bug Number: GRMT-5187. If a user with a Browse license tries to drag a clip from the Media pane to the sequence timeline, no tracks are highlighted and the user cannot drop the clip in the timeline. There is no message to indicate that a user with a Browse license is not allowed to do this.

➤ You cannot use a drag-and-drop operation to load multiple assets in the Media viewer. If you select multiple assets in an Assets pane and drag them to the Media viewer, only the first asset in the list is loaded.

Blackberry Mobile Application

➤ Bug Number: INMOB-1069, INMOB-1091. When a mobile application user receives an HTTPS connection accept window and the system font on the Blackberry is set to a size larger than 10, then it becomes impossible for the user to press or select the Continue button. This is a limitation of the device itself because Blackberry doesn't allow users to perform scrolling or selection to the up direction if font size is greater than 10 and text must be scrolled.

Workaround: Ensure the system font is set on the mobile device to a size smaller than 10.

➤ (Chinese language version only). If you add a production cue, and start in Machine Command format by typing a line of text without an asterisk, then switch to Normal format and continue typing, the additional text is not immediately put on a new line as expected.

➤ Bug Number: INMOB-1094, INMOB-1111. When typing a story using Arabic characters, the first character on a line that contains a long string of characters can appear cut off or pushed beyond the visible boundaries of the screen.

Page 24: Avid Interplay Central Version 1.3.1 ReadMe

Limitations in Version 1.0 and Later

24

This behavior is a limitation of the BlackBerry OS and can also occur in other standard phone applications, such as Memo Pad.

➤ Bug Number: INMOB-1017, INMOB-1112. When a user re-enters a rundown, after having scrolled to a story and exited the rundown, instead of immediately reopening that story in the queue, the display will appear to scroll through the rundown, eventually stopping at the correct, current story selection.

➤ Avid does not recommend the multi-tap reduced keyboard on the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for use in story creation because it exhibits odd behavior when navigating between Presenter and Normal text formats.

Interplay Central Help

If the Interplay Central certificate is not marked as trusted, MP4 demo movies in the Interplay Help do not start play immediately in Safari or Internet Explorer with Chrome Frame.

Workaround: The workaround is dependent on the type of browser you use.

• In the Safari browser, a movie does not start play until you locate the warning dialog box and click Continue.

• In Internet Explorer with Chrome Frame, a message says that “This webpage is not available.” Refresh the page, click Continue on the Certificate Error page, and click Yes in the Certificate alert dialog box.
