Generally, whenever Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School day school has been cancelled for inclement weather, evening school classes will be cancelled. This course will introduce students to Microsoft Word

and the word processing skills necessary to write letters

and reports, create flyers and newsletters, and improve

office skills. In the hands-on course, students will learn

Industrial/Municipal Wastewater Training

This twelve week survey course will introduce the

student to the physical and chemical processes associated

with water quality, pollution, and treatment of liquid

wastes, as they pertain to Municipal and Industrial

Operations. The student will be exposed to the function

of related equipment and support systems and the

environmental responsibilities required to safely and

properly operate, maintain and manage a Wastewater

Treatment Facility. Topics covered include wastewater

flow, wastewater characteristics, collections systems,

regulations, mathematics, laboratory and various

treatment processes. The course will concentrate on

preparing the student to take a Massachusetts Industrial,

Municipal or Combined Wastewater Certification Exam

Learn to do eye exams!

The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant Program is a

certificate program to help answer the need for qualified

assistants in ophthalmology practices.

This program is designed to teach the basic skills needed

to perform eye exams and prepare the patient for the

ophthalmologist.

With a combination of classroom teaching and a

hands-on clinic in a local ophthalmology office

(Advanced Eye Center, 500 Faunce Corner Rd.) this

program is designed to give the student a basic

foundation of ophthalmic knowledge.

Bilingual ability is a plus in the medical field. Also, this

course does require some knowledge of basic algebra.

If you are an apprentice and want to become licensed as a Journeyman Electrician, then this is the course for you.

An apprentice is defined as one who is working and studying under the direct supervision of an appropriate licensed

individual. The MINIMUM qualifications are as follows: An apprentice must be supervised for 8,000 hours and such

supervision must be for a period of not less than 4 years. As well as 4 years of employment, and 8,000 hours as an

“apprentice” under the direct supervision of a licensed journeyman, you will need to SUCCESSFULLY complete 600

total hours (75 hours per module - 8 modules required) of this program.

Millwork

The use of power equipment and its safety makes up this

program. Students are required to do a project that

involves the use of circular saw, jointer, radial saw,

planer, shaper, and small power tools.

This course will continue with woodworking basics;

specific skills in light power tool equipment, basic joinery,

and cabinet basics. Students will be required to make a

throughout.

Fine Woodworking

Prerequisite: CP-01 or previous carpentry training

If you have some experience in woodworking and would

like to take the next step in creating a turn of the century

piece, take the challenge. This course includes complete

step by step instruction in creating a one of a kind piece

such as a Queen Anne step stool and true hand cut dovetail

blanket chest, using typical hand tools and modern

machined techniques.

Residential Housing Technology

This course is designed for the future or present

homeowners that are contemplating building, renovating, or

repairing their own homes along with general home

maintenance. Classes will cover building terminology,

replacement windows, code requirements, and drawing

techniques to obtain a building permit. Shop instruction

will include use of hand and power tools, rafter and stair

layout using a framing square.

If you have a piece of furniture that needs a face lift, this is

the course to take. The first class will be an orientation to

evaluate piece, and an overview of different types of

finishes and solvents. Students are responsible for all

Basic Machine Shop Training

This course is a self-paced learning environment in which a

student can complete one or more projects in any one session.

Total progress per session will undoubtedly depend upon prior

experience and/or individual’s ability to perform the

operations as instructed.

Related Subjects—Measure and measurements, shop sketches

and blueprint reading, review related math, shop problems and

safety.

Lathe Operations—External operations include plain turning,

threading, taper turning, also use of lathe chucks. Internal

operations include drilling, reaming and threading. Drill press

Basic Machine Shop Training II

This course will continue with Machine Shop Basics. Students

will be required to make a few small projects with step by step

procedures and instructions. Knowledge gained will assist

students in furthering their skills in Machine Shop Technology

Milling Operations.

This course will show students how to setup milling machines,

proper use of milling machines, and milling machine opera-

tions. Students will be required to make a piece by piece pro-

ject on a milling machine. Safety is stressed throughout this

course.

Shop instruction on the operation, care, maintenance, and

safety of acetylene and oxygen welding equipment are

covered. Related classroom instruction includes principles,

methods, and techniques of blueprint reading, welding

symbols, practical use of equipment in

beading, fusing, brazing, cutting, and

safety.

MIG-TIG Welding

This is an introductory program involving the feeding of a

consumable wire through a shielding gas and also tungsten

Shop instruction on the operation, care, maintenance, and

Fuel Cell Technology - Advanced

Complete your hydrogen fuel-cell installation with EFIEs

(electronic fuel injection enhancers). Learn how to tune your:

Oxygen sensor(s)

Manifold absolute pressure sensor

Mass air flow sensor

Intake air temperature sensor

Coolant temperature sensor

Throttle position sensor with an ELM-327 OBD II (laptop

computer) scanner and realize typical fuel savings of 33% to

50%!

Prerequisite: Successful completion of FC-01 or permission

of the instructor. You must be driving an HOD (hydrogen-

on-demand) hybrid vehicle to benefit from this course.

Basic Stained Glass

Stained glass isn’t just for windows anymore!

You will learn the copper foil method to create your

own stained glass projects. We will cover safety issues

associated with working with glass and the various tools

and supplies. We will learn how to cut glass. We will

also cover some decorative soldering techniques used to

enhance your projects. Discover how to use all your

glass scraps to create mosaic masterpieces for your

This class will enable participants to create many floral

projects such as wreath making and decorating; how to

care and condition cut and dried flowers; making

centerpieces; corsages and boutonnieres; Oriental

for flowers. Students will take home all the projects they

make during the class. Enjoy the art of floral design for

Cake Decorating I

This hands-on course will provide the fundamentals

necessary to create any special occasion cake from

whimsical to elegant designs. Cupcake fillings and designs

will also be covered. Learn how to make shell borders,

drop flowers, sweet peas, leaves, vines, timeless roses, and

use star fill-in techniques. This course will also focus on

how to make the perfect icing consistency using basic and

butter cream icing. Please bring a small cake to class with
