    UPCOMING EVENTS & DATES TO REMEMBER

    Tisha BAvThe fast to commemorate the destruction of the first and

    second Bait Hamikdash begins on Monday evening August

    8 . We will recite Eicha and the evening Kinnot followingth

    Maariv at 8:21 pm. Shacharit on Tuesday morning August 9

    will be at 6:00 and we wil recite all Kinnot. At 4:00 pm we

    will show the Chafetz Chaim Heritage Foundation Video

    Mending Our Relationships, Building Our World at no

    charge. Mincha with our Tefillin and Torah reading will

    begin at 7:35 pm. The fast will end at 8:43 pm.

    All who mourn Jerusalem merit and see its rebuilding

    Selichot

    We begin to recite Selichot, prayers of repentance and

    atonement, on Motzai Shabbat, September 24 at 11:00 pm.th

    Before Selichot, please join us at 10:00 pm for refreshments

    and an inspiring speaker immediately preceding Selichot.

    Please join us to begin the High Holiday season in a

    meaningful way.Shabbat Shuva Shiur

    On October 1, 2011, Rabbi Louis Lazovsky will deliver his

    annual special Shabbat Shuva shiur in lieu of the Shabbat

    afternoon class at 4:30 pm.

    New Year Greetings

    Be part of the Kesser Maariv Family's New Year greeting

    card. For only $26, your name will be included on a poster

    in the Shul's front lobby. It's a great way to extend your good

    Hakafot on Simchat TorahHakafot will be held on Thursday evening and Friday

    morning, October 20 and 21 . We are looking for a host orth st

    hosts to sponsor our refreshments. Please call the office to

    make arrangements.

    Simchat Torah Communal Luncheon

    On Friday, October 21 we will have our annual Simchast

    Torah Lunch. Thanks to a generous sponsor, there will no

    be a per person charge for lunch, though reservations are

    requested. Call the Shul office at (847) 679-9800 by October

    16 with your reservations.th

    Yizkor

    We recite Yizkor on Yom Kippur, Shabbat October 8 atth

    about 11:30 am, and on Shmini Atzeret, Thursday October

    20 at about 10:30 am.th

    Chesed Project

    We are collecting food and money for Kosher US soldiers

    for KosherTroops.com. We are collecting specific food items

    (see the enclosed flyer) and the troops will get them for Rosh

    Hashana. Please bring all donations to the shul by August

    Weekday Minyanim

    Please join us for daily minyanim. Shacharit is at 6:00 am

    Monday through Friday, and 8:00 am on Sunday. Mincha-Maariv on Sunday through Thursday is 15 minutes before

    sunset.

    Misheberach List

    If you have names for a misheberach, please send them to the

    shul office or e-mail [email protected].

    ORDER YOUR LULAV AND ETROG NOW!!

    The shul will once again sell top quality Lulav sets from

    Israel. To order your set please complete and return the order

    form below and return it to the shul no later than Thursday

    October 6 . For additional information, or to order anth

    9800. Sets will be available for pick-up after Yom Kippur.

    KM to Publish Manuscripts of Rabbi Meyer Juzint

    Kesser Maariv will publish works and manuscripts of Rabbi

    Meyer Juzint on Parsha, Talmud and Mussar. The first

    volumes will be published, G-d willing, to commemorate

    Rabbi Juzints 10 yahrzeit, which is on October 14, 2011.th

    Send-A-Kid-To-Israel Partnership (S.K.I.P.)

    Kesser Maariv is proud to be a participating Congregation in

    S.K.I.P. The program allows parents to contribute money

    annually in partnership with the synagogue and the Jewish

    Federation for an Israel trip for their children. Students in

    grades 3-6, enrolled in a day or afternoon school, who have

    finished paying their annual membership to the shul are

    eligible to participate. For additional details, a registration

    kit or to enroll your child(ren) for the first time, please

    contact Ben Zion Lazovsky at (847) 679-9800.

    Rent the Shul for Your Simcha

    For information regarding renting the Social Hall for your

    event, please call Ben Zion Lazovsky at the Shul office at(847) 679-9800. Also, book you childs Bar/Bat Mitzvah in

    the Shul calendar!

    Teen Mishnah Club

    High school-age boys are invited to participate in a Mishnah

    Club, led by Rabbi Ben Zion Lazovsky. The boys meet once

    a week before Mincha to learn Gemara.

    Happy Day Cards & Standings

    Join the Kesser Maariv Cards standing list! For only $50 a

    year, your name will automatically be included whenever a

    card is sent from our shul to fellow members for a refua

    shlayma, condolence or mazal tov. To join the standings

    please contact the office at (847) 679-9800

    PAST EVENTS

    Shavuot Mishmar - Thanks to Womens Mishmar

    presenters: Rebbetzin Saretta Lazovsky, Mindy Schiller and

    Eva Zussman; regular Mishmar shiurim by Rabbis Eli, Ben

    Zion & Louis Lazovsky, and Dr. Steve Steinberg. The Teen

    Mishmar was led by Rabbi Ben Zion Lazovsky. Thanks to

    the Miretzkys and Hartzes for the refreshments...In June we

    had a festive Graduation Kiddush in honor of our many

    graduates...OurAnnual Banquet and Ad Journal on July

    17 was a great success. We celebrated the investiture of

    Rabbi Ben Zion Lazovsky as Associate Rabbi, presented the

    Community Service Award to Mrs. Jean Goldrich, and paid

    tribute to Rabbi Meyer Juzint at his 10 yahrzeit. We wereth

    very fortunate to hear from Steven Landes and Rabbi Aaron

    Leib on their experiences as students of Rabbi Juzint.

    We hope this letter finds you well, and safely enjoying the summer. By now we hope you are familiar with the manyprograms and milestones that we have achieved since our arrival in Skokie. It is with great pleasure that we invite you,your family and friends to reserve your high holiday seats and worship with us for the upcoming New Year of -5772. We are confident that the upcoming holiday services will be truly moving and meaningful.

    Selichot services will be held on Saturday night, September 24, 2011, at 11:00 p.m., at 4341 W. Golf in Skokie, with aspecial program and refreshments held at 10:00 p.m., immediately preceding the services. Please come, get acquaintedwith our congregation and allow us to welcome you and include you as part of our extended family.

    We will once again use the ArtScroll Machzor for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. While a number of Adler Machzorswill be available, congregants will need to purchase their own ArtScroll Machzors from one of the area book stores.

    Membership and Ticket RatesThe membership rates have not increased in the past five years. To encourage new memberships this year, we will

    again waive the building fund obligation for new members.To serve you better, we accept payments of $500 and above by Visa, Master Card or Discover.

    Rosh Hashanah for the Jewish Troops protecting America.

    Please help out by donating food or money to the cause.

    We will send the food and money to the organization, Kosher

    Troops, in New York.

    Kosher Troops will send the food to the soldiers. By the time theyreceive the food, it will be time to celebrate the new year!
