You’ve heard that refrigerant prices are on the way up. From 1 July 2012 HFCs will incur a carbon equivalent price, based on the refrigerant‘s global warming poten- tial (GWP). For example, for these common gases the HFC levy* will raise prices by around: R134a GWP 1300 = $30 /kg R404a GWP 3260 = $75 /kg R410A GWP 1725 = $40 /kg * (compounding margins down the supply chain may raise retail prices even more, so buyer beware!) Overseas experience shows that the use of pricing mechanisms is effective in reducing consumption of HFCs. Reducing exposure to the HFC levy is now one of the most important actions users of RAC systems can take to reduce costs. Supermarkets have been anticipating this change for many years, and have been shifting to the natural refrigerant CO2. ARA aims to assist the RAC industry with the informa- tion, guidance and representation needed to reduce emissions from existing HFC and HCFC systems, and to make the transition to future proof climate RAC systems and products. “We estimate the RAC industry is respon- sible for 11 to 12% of Australia’s national global warming emissions - we aim to help you and your clients reduce their exposure to the HFC levy and cut costs” For more information about the Australian Refrigeration Association and how we can add value to your business: www.ausref.org.au [email protected] President: Tim Edwards [email protected] Phone: 02 4861 5355 Mobile: 0405 324 834 ARA President Tim Edwards and Vice President Ben Adamson at the ARA Launch, NSW Parliament House, Sydney

Our Founding MembersAre you ready for the HFC Levy? You’ve heard that refrigerant prices are on the way up. From 1 July 2012 HFCs will incur a carbon equivalent price, based on the refrigerant‘s global warming poten-tial (GWP).

For example, for these common gases the HFC levy* will raise prices by around:

R134a GWP 1300 = $30 /kg

R404a GWP 3260 = $75 /kg

R410A GWP 1725 = $40 /kg

* (compounding margins down the supply chain

may raise retail prices even more, so buyer beware!)

Overseas experience shows that the use of pricing mechanisms is effective in reducing consumption of HFCs.

Reducing exposure to the HFC levy is now one of the most important actions users of RAC systems can take to reduce costs. Supermarkets have been anticipating this change for many years, and have been shifting to the natural refrigerant CO2.

ARA aims to assist the RAC industry with the informa-tion, guidance and representation needed to reduce emissions from existing HFC and HCFC systems, and to make the transition to future proof climate RAC systems and products.

“We estimate the RAC industry is respon-sible for 11 to 12% of Australia’s national global warming emissions - we aim to help you and your clients reduce their exposure to the HFC levy and cut costs”
