    HIGH SPEED RAIL

This project was designed under the hypo-thetical scenario that a high speed rail was built from Chicago to St. Louis, which included Cham-paign as a stop along the rail. The goal of this project was to design an open air center downtown Champaign that contained performance centers for concerts, along with other recreational activi-ties. Many of the structures on-site are intended to be re-purposed as an automated ticket booth and cafe.

  • LELANDELEMENTARY SCHOOL

This project site was based at Leland Elementary, a south-side Chicago School. The existing site consisted of impermeable asphalt and in result was problematic to off site drainage. I was afforded the opportunity to work with Chicago Openlands, a non-prof-it organization who helps deal with creating sustainable spaces in Chicago. Along with teachers, share holders, and students, I was able to understand the site problems that needed to be addressed in my design. The goal of this project was to elim-inate as much impermeable surfaces as possible while still introducing a fun and safe learning environment for the students. My design included an outdoor classroom, a learning garden, a drop off turnaround, a play area, and plenty of rain gardens and na-tive plantings to encourage on-site drainage.

    PLAN

The purpose of this project was to design a public space that would help draw the community closer to-gether around the center of Mattoon, IL. The existing site is owned by the Lumpkin Foundation and consists of an empty grass lot along with an asphalt parking lot. The goals of my design were to enhance the biodiver-sity of the site by using native plantings and creating a performance area for local musicians and art displays. Some of my concerns in designing this park were de-creasing the areas heat island effect and dealing with onsite storm water drainage.

    CHILDGRADING PLAN & DETAILS

Fairchild Condominiums was a site that con-tained six luxurious condo units, 14 parking spaces, and associated permeable paver walkways. The site was located at the intersection of Fairchild Drive and Birkenhead Road. The project area, or limit-of -contract, was defined by the right-of-way line and property boundary. The Parking lot and the access road shall have a 6-inch curb with gutter. The parking area runoff as well as runoff from the grass areas should drain into the street. The units were slab on grade construction with a 4-foot wide walk to each unit, 5-foot wide walk adjacent to the parking area.
