    Community Development Officer

    The New York City program of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) seeks candidates forCommunity Development Officer. The position reports to the LISC NYC Managing Director.

    Background

    LISC is a national nonprofit organization, which provides financial and technical assistance toneighborhood-based nonprofit community development corporations (CDCs) working to improve housingand economic conditions in distressed neighborhoods. The New York City program works with CDCsand community-based entrepreneurs throughout the city to develop affordable multi-family rentalhousing, homeownership opportunities, commercial enterprises and community facilities.

    LISC New York City raises grants, loans and equity for strategic investments in community developmentorganizations. In New York City, LISC and its affiliates have invested over $1.7 billion in nonprofit andlocal developers resulting in the creation of over 30,000 new homes and apartments and 2,000,000 squarefeet of commercial, industrial, and retail space.

    Responsibilities:

    Provide support and resources to client community development corporations and entrepreneurs.

    Underwrite real estate transactions including pre-development loans, tax credit transactions,commercial and retail loans and investments and community facilities loans.

    Work closely to build a pipeline of projects for LISC NYCs education facility lending and NewMarket Tax Credit portfolio.

    Work with Community Development Team members on initiatives such as CDC staff capacitybuilding, organizational development, economic development, community safety, healthcare, andschool and community facility construction.

    Qualifications

    Candidates should have strong underwriting experience and familiarity with the New York City area realestate market. Familiarity with city, state and federal housing financing programs a must. They shouldalso have the ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and representatives from the nonprofit,corporate, philanthropic and public sectors. Candidates must have the capacity to work on multiple tasksand projects, be able to prioritize a challenging workload, be positive and solution-oriented. Excellentwriting, financial analysis and verbal communication skills are essential. A Bachelors degree and at least3 years of related experience are required; graduate level education is a plus.
