21st Sunday in Ordinary Time
Theme: “Who do people say I am?”
Every day we ask people all kinds of questions. Where did you go? Why did you do
this? When will you come? How did this happen etc.? And of course, people ask us
questions as well. Questions are very much a part of our daily life and conversation.
When we hear a question addressed to us, we know that we will have to answer. We can
answer “yes or no”, or give a longer reply, but we must say something. The person ask-
ing the question is there looking at us and waiting for some words from us. Most times,
he/she will not accept silence as a reply but will repeat the question to hear what we
have to say. Is it not so?
Today, you and I asked a question, a very important question. The one asking is not one
of our friends or neighbors. We are not asked by a teacher or any our fellowmen. The
question is not brought to us by an angel either. It is God Himself who speaks to us
through His Son, Jesus Christ. Yes, today Jesus asks each one of us: “Who do you say
that I am?”
We have heard those words just now as we listened to the gospel. There we have seen
the words addressed to the Apostles, Jesus’ friends. At first, Jesus had asked them what
other people say of Him. All those people who come and listen to His preaching. All the
many people He has cured of their diseases. What do they think of Him? Who is He in
their eyes?
The Apostles reported what people are saying. Some think Jesus is a prophet. Some even
believe He is one of the former prophets risen from the dead. Having heard those an-
swers, Jesus now looks at His friends and asks them; “But you, who do you say that I

Tema: : "¿Quién dice que soy?"
Todos los días le hacemos a la gente todo tipo de preguntas? ¿Dónde fuiste? ¿Por qué
hiciste esto? ¿Cuando vendrás? ¿Cómo pasó esto? Etc Y por supuesto, la gente nos hace
preguntas también. Las preguntas forman parte de nuestra vida cotidiana y de nuestra
conversación.
Cuando escuchamos una pregunta dirigida a nosotros, sabemos que tendremos que res-
ponder. Podemos responder "sí o no", o dar una respuesta más larga, pero debemos decir
algo. La persona que hace la pregunta está allí mirándonos y esperando algunas palabras
de nosotros. La mayor parte del tiempo ella / ella no aceptará el silencio como una res-
puesta, pero repetirá la pregunta para escuchar lo que tenemos que decir. ¿No es así?
Hoy, tú y yo hicimos una pregunta; Una pregunta muy importante. El que pregunta no es
uno de nuestros amigos o vecinos. No nos lo piden un maestro o cualquiera de nuestros
semejantes. La pregunta tampoco es presentada por un ángel. Es Dios mismo quien nos
habla a través de Su Hijo Jesucristo. Sí, hoy Jesús nos pregunta a cada uno de nosotros:
"¿Quién dices que soy?".
Hemos escuchado esas palabras ahora mismo mientras escuchábamos el evangelio. Allí
hemos visto la palabra dirigida a los Apóstoles, los demonios de Jesús. Al principio,
Jesús les había preguntado lo que otras personas dicen de Él. Todas aquellas personas
que vienen y escuchan Su predicación. Todas las personas que ha curado de sus enfer-
medades. ¿Qué piensan de él? ¿Quién es él en sus ojos?
Los apóstoles informaron lo que la gente está diciendo. Algunos piensan que Jesús es un
profeta. Algunos incluso creen que Él es uno de los antiguos profetas resucitados de
entre los muertos. Habiendo oído esas respuestas, Jesús mira ahora a sus amigos y les
pregunta; -Pero tú, ¿quién dices que soy yo? (Continua en la pagina 3)

Adults: Participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA). Infants to age 5: Parents and Godparents participate in Baptism program. Children (Grades 1-12): Participate in Religious Education Program. Please make an appointment to discuss preparation for the sacraments.

(Continuación de la Pág. 1) Jesús quiere que Sus amigos piensen por sí mismos, cómo ellos mis-
mos lo ven. No es suficiente repetir lo que otros piensan y dicen. Quie-
re que los Apóstoles sean conscientes de cómo lo ven, de quien Él es
para ellos. Pedro será el que conteste. Él contesta en el nombre de
todos. Él dice; "Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente."
Jesús felicita a Pedro por su buena respuesta, pero deja claro que Pe-
dro no encontró esta respuesta solo por sí mismo, sino que fue
"revelada" o le fue mostrada por "el padre en el cielo". En otras pala-
bras, Jesús le está diciendo a Pedro , Y los otros apóstoles que escu-
chan, que conocerlo, Jesús, es un regalo de Dios. No es algo que pode-
mos obtener por nosotros solos. Debemos recibir este conocimiento de
Jesús de Dios.
Y hoy, la misma pregunta nos es dirigida aquí. Jesús te mira a ti, a ti
ya ti, y Él te pregunta personalmente: Y tú, ¿quién dices que soy? Sólo
cierra los ojos por un momento y verlo allí delante de ti, haciéndole
esta pregunta. ¿Qué le responderías? Algunos de ustedes podrían de-
cir; Jesús, tú eres mi Señor; Tú eres mi Maestro; Tú eres Salvador;
eres mi amigo; Tu eres mi juez
Después de preguntarte cómo ves a Jesús, sería bueno preguntarte
también qué quiere ser para ti? Esta respuesta Él os dará en vuestro
corazón. Pero hay una cosa que es clara y segura. Él es Alguien que te
ama más de lo que nadie puede amarte. Él ha dado Su propia vida por
usted y por mí. Quiere mucho tu amistad. Y Él está siempre allí cerca
de ti, listo para protegerte, ayudarte y consolarte.
Al mirarle y escuchar Su enseñanza, usted llegará a entender qué clase
de persona Él era. Usted descubrirá Su misericordia, y Su dulzura.
Usted descubrirá Su misericordia, Su compasión, Su amor. Y entender
también que él es el mismo ayer, hoy y mañana.
En la parroquia de la OLGC, hay grupos que podrían ayudarle a cono-
cer mejor quién es Jesús. Por ejemplo, el descubrimiento de Cristo, la
adoración del primer viernes, el voluntariado en muchos aspectos de
nuestra vida parroquial. Y por supuesto, al venir a la iglesia todos los
domingos, usted puede escuchar la predicación que se da como lo está
haciendo ahora. De todas estas maneras, su conocimiento de quién es
Jesús puede ser más claro y más profundo al mismo tiempo.
Hoy, usted ha escuchado la pregunta de Jesús. Tal vez usted se sor-
prendió por ella y no estaba muy seguro de cómo responder. Tal vez le
hubiera gustado más tiempo para pensar en ello. Bueno, ¿por qué no
tomar algún tiempo, la próxima semana, para pensar en ello? Pregún-
tate de nuevo. ¿Quién es Jesús para mí? ¿Qué quiere ser para mí?
(Continued from page 1) Jesus wants His friends to think for themselves, how they them-
selves see Him. It is not enough to repeat what others think and
say. He wants the Apostles to become aware of how they see
Him, of who He is for them. Peter will be the one who answers.
He answers in the name of all. He says; “You are the Christ, the
Son of the living God.”
Jesus congratulates Peter for his good answer, but He makes it
clear that Peter did not find this answer by himself alone but it
was “revealed” or, shown to him by “the father in heaven.” In
other words, Jesus is telling Peter and the other Apostles listen-
ing, that to know Him, Jesus, is a gift from God. It is not some-
thing we can get by ourselves alone. We must receive this
knowledge of Jesus from God.
And today, the same question is addressed to us here. Jesus
looks to you, and you, and you, and He asks you personally:
And you, who do you say that I am? Just close your eyes for a
moment and see Him there before you, asking you this question.
What would you answer Him? Some among you might say;
Jesus, you are my Lord; you are my Master; you are Savior; you
are my friend; you are my Judge…
After asking yourself how you see Jesus, it would be good to
ask as well what does He want to be for you? This answer He
will give to you in your own heart. But there is one thing that is
clear and certain. He is someone who loves you more than any-
one can ever love you. He has given His own life for you and
me. He wants your friendship very much. And, He is always
there near you, ready to protect you, help you, and comfort you.
As you look at Him, and listen to His teaching, you will come to
understand what kind of a person He was. You will discover His
mercy and His gentleness. You will discover His compassion
and His love. And to understand also that he is the same yester-
day, today and tomorrow.
In OLGC parish, there are groups that could help you know
better who is Jesus. For example, the Discovering Christ, First
Friday adoration, volunteering in many aspects of our parish
life, etc. And of course, as you come to church every Sunday,
you can hear the preaching that is given as you are doing now.
In all these ways, your knowledge of who Jesus is can become
clearer and deeper at the same time.
Today, you have heard Jesus’ question. Perhaps you were sur-
prised by it and you were not too sure how to answer it. Perhaps
you would have liked more to time to think about it. Well, why
not take some time this coming week, to think about it? Ask
yourself again. Who is Jesus for me? What does He want to be
for me?
Eucharistic Adoration
Our Lady of Good Counsel will have Eucharistic Adoration
on the First Friday of every month.
Come and spend a hour with Our Lord. Please use the sign-up
sheet to reserve your time with Our Lord.
Healing Mass Mass for Healing will be at 6:00 PM every First Friday after
Eucharistic Adoration.
All are welcome to come and ask God for Physical, Emo-
tional & Spiritual Healing.

Please follow these guidelines so that everyone will have the opportunity to offer Masses for their loved ones: SCHEDULING OF MASSES One Sunday or Saturday (vigil) Mass per month
may be scheduled but not more than a total of 6 for the 6 month period.
A total of 7 weekday Masses may be scheduled. Masses cannot be scheduled via telephone. There
will be no exceptions. Mass must be paid at the time of scheduling. First Anniversary Masses for those who have
passed away will be scheduled automatically (depending on availability) at no charge if the funeral Mass took place at OLGC.
THE STIPEND FOR MASS IS $15.00. ALTAR FLOWERS CAN ALSO BE DONATED IN MEMORY OF YOUR LOVED ONE. THE OFFERING FOR FLOWERS IS $50.00 In addition to offering Mass, parishioners may offer the gift of the Bread and Wine or the Sanctuary Lamp. THE STIPEND FOR THESE OFFERINGS IS $25.00 EACH.

en nuestra parroquia, la Misa del primer aniversario será apartada automáticamente sin costo alguno, te-niendo en cuenta la disponibilidad.
LA DONACIÓN POR MISA ES DE $15.00. LAS FLORES PARA EL ALTAR TAMBIÉN PUEDEN SE DONADAS EN MEMO-
