Dear Friends: I am always honored when Fr. Tom asks if I would write a letter in his absence. It gives me a chance to “talk with” all of you. It also presents me with an opportunity to reaffirm to you how giving our parish is! I make that statement first-handed as I am always amazed that when presented with an opening for a Religious Education teacher, one of our parishioners always steps up and generously gives their time to share their love of the Catholic faith with the youth of our community. Recently, our parish advertised for a part time youth minister. Members of our community, as well as others throughout the Diocese, took the initiative to respond to our ad with quite enthusiasm. As I reflect back on the entire process, from start to finish, I thought how wonderful a statement when such qualified people wish to minister to the youth associated with St. Jean Vianney Parish! To me, this says much about who we are. Thank you for the ownership you take in our parish community, and thanks to Fr. Tom who affords us leadership opportunities! School staff, preschool staff and parish office staff will gather on Monday, August 4th, for a morning of reflection. This has become an annual gathering of all staffs to “kick off” the new school year. We welcome Fr. Josh Johnson, who will say Mass for us that morning, the feast day of St. Jean Vianney. Fr. Josh will also facilitate our morning of reflection. The Gospel reading this week is good for those who lack confidence. Jesus feeds a hungry crowd. This is one of my favorite Gospel readings! When asked, the apostles do not think they are going to be able to help Jesus feed the many people gathered. How quickly things change when they give a small amount of food to Jesus and He feeds thousands! Each of us has “food” to offer to the world, which is hungry for peace, compassion and forgiveness. We only realize how much “food” we have, when we take the step to reach out. Offer Jesus your “loaves and fishes” and sit back – watch Him work a miracle through you. Have a great week, Denise Louviere, DRE

Welcome Alyse Manning!

The parish of St. Jean Vianney welcomes Alyse Manning as our new Youth Minister! Alyse and her husband, Scott, are from Baton Rouge; Scott teaches at Catholic High and Alyse works at Redemptorist High. Together, Alyse and Scott bring much experience working with the youth of the Baton Rouge Diocese. More information about Alyse will be forth coming. Watch for exciting youth ministry activities!

LIFE TOGETHER

The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation

Imagine how our parish would change if all of us had a profound encounter with God in Scripture. The Bible is at the heart of everything we do and believe as Catholics. A good Bible study has a way of renewing parish life, and enriching the faith of parishioners. The Bible Timeline is a fascinating study that takes you on a journey through the entire Bible. You will go deep into each period of salvation history and discover the amazing story woven throughout all of Scripture. Using a unique color-coded system, you will learn the major people, places, and events of the Bible and see how together they form the foundation of our faith. Join us for The Bible Timeline bible study at St. Jean Vianney beginning August 13, 2014 at 6:30 to 8:30pm and continuing for 23 classes – ending on March 25, 2015. Think about it, pray about it and we hope you will join us. Call the Parish Office to register (753.7950).

THANKS!!! Thank you to Craig Baker and his family for the endless hours they dedicated to working with the youth of our parish. Craig and Christina have relocated to the Lafayette area and we wish them the best!

ST JEAN VIANNEY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN “Our Time to Pray, Our Time to Give”

A MATCHING GIFT There are parishioners who work for businesses which will sometimes MATCH a charitable donation to a Church or School. Is your employer one of those people? If so, your gift to the Capital Campaign could be matched. Sometimes, the employer will match a gift to a SCHOOL but not a CHURCH. Regardless of the case, we can help you find out if your employer will match your gift. Talk to Fr. Tom or Debbie Daigle at the parish office, 753.7950 so we can help you help us.

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

BAPTISMS We welcome the following child to our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism:

† Isaac Eldon Baker son, of Craig and Christina Baker.

PARISH OFFICE SUMMER HOURS Beginning May 27th, 2014 the Parish Office hours will be Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm. We are closed from 12 noon until 1:00pm for lunch.
