I came across the following prayer this week as we prepare for the start of school (from Cornerstone Devotions for Teachers), and while it is addressed to teachers, I believe the word studentcan be replaced with coworkeror family member, and the word classroomcan be replaced with workplaceor homeand speaks to all of us in our vocations. Powerful and almighty God, You are so amazing! Youve had a plan for these children since before time began, and youve always known that our lives would cross paths. Please give me the gift of discernment to understand their needs and how I can meet them. Show me everything I need to know to teach these little ones and develop the gifts that youve given them. Let my enthusiasm be evident every day, because my joy doesnt come from having a perfect classroom, it comes from knowing you. Jesus, you are ever-faithful and unchanging, and I pray that you would fill me with your strength and perfect peace each morning and carry me throughout each day. Put a genuine smile on my face and help me to be as patient and loving with these children as you have been with me. Remind me that this job is a privilege and that I am fulfilling your call on my life by showing up in this classroom each day. Surround me with supportive, positive influences and help me to speak only truth and light so that my colleagues and supervisors will consistently see you in me. I dedicate this classroom to you: let your name triumph over any negativity and may everything that happens here bring glory to your name. I thank you for giving me your holy Word so that I have a place to turn when I need to be uplifted. Thank you for filling me with the passion and enthusiasm that can only come from having God within.May your name be glorified in everything that happens here as your mercies are made new each morning. In Jesusprecious name, amen. I came across the following prayer this week as we prepare for the start of school (from Cornerstone Devotions for Teachers), and while it is addressed to teachers, I believe the word “student” can be replaced with “coworker” or “family member,” and the word “classroom” can be replaced with “workplace” or “home” and speaks to all of us in our vocations.

Powerful and almighty God, You are so amazing! You’ve had a plan for these children since before time began, and you’ve always known that our lives would cross paths. Please give me the gift of discernment to understand their needs and how I can meet them. Show me everything I need to know to teach these little ones and develop the gifts that you’ve given them. Let my enthusiasm be evident every day, because my joy doesn’t come from having a perfect classroom, it comes from knowing you. Thank you for filling me with the passion and enthusiasm that can only come from having ‘God within.’ May your name be glorified in everything that happens here as your mercies are made new each morning. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.

Concordia High School Athletics Dept. is seeking a head varsity girls basketball coach. Previous high school or college coaching experience is required. Qualified candidates will also be active members of a Christian congregation and have a desire to lead, instruct and mentor student athletes in a Christian manner. Interested individuals can send their cover letter and resume to Ben Ersland, Activities Director, at [email protected]. A complete background check will be part of the application process. Deadline for applications is September 1.

Today’s altar flowers are given to the glory of God by Yve and Crystal Gao in thanksgiving and celebration of their marriage on August 27.

Our former pastor, Rev. Dr. Bill Moorhead, will be installed as the new pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (5020 Grand Ave.) on August 28, at 3pm by Rev. Dr. Russell Sommerfeld, former Nebraska District President. The congregation is invited to attend. There will be a light dinner in the school gym after the worship service. Please bring a non-perishable item for Project Hope.

Pastoral Vacancy: During Pastor Drebes’ impending medical vacancy, pastoral care will be provided by Pastor Tim Gierke. Pastor Drebes will be on medical leave for at least 2 weeks beginning, Wednesday, August 31. If there is a pastoral care emergency, please contact Pastor Gierke directly at 402-312-9115. He can also be reached at [email protected]

For Pastoral Care:– Please Call the Church Office It has come to the attention of the front office that not everyone is aware that they need to call the church office (or Pastor directly) if there is a pastoral care need. In the past hospitals used to call churches when congregation members were hospitalized. However, due to Hippa privacy laws, this is no longer the case. If your loved one is ill, hospitalized, or otherwise in need of pastoral care, you need to call the church office.

We are near the end of August. Many schools have begun their studies. It is not too late to help fill the bin with school supplies and backpack food. Please bring items and place them in the marked bin in the narthex before August 30. Thank you for your support.

Mission and Social Ministry Board

Lamb of God Preschool will be starting the 2016-17 school year on September 6! We will be giving each child a Bible and a preschool t-shirt at the beginning of the year—to spread the word about our preschool and to share God’s Word with families. Each day children come to preschool they learn new things about the world around them and hear how much Jesus loves them. As we head back to school we ask that you remember Lamb of God Preschool in your prayers and in your envelope offering contributions. We greatly appreciate your support!

CYF Board: Fall Sunday School starts September 11. We will begin education hour with a pot-luck breakfast at 9:15am. The congregation is invited. Come meet your teacher and have a short class. Sunday School volunteers are still needed. We also need volunteers to help with the breakfast. Call Sandra Glissmann with questions at 402-571-8407.

Our youth confirmation class will be starting up on Wednesday, September 14, at 6pm to 7:15pm.
