For Employees, Residents, Families
and Friends
Current Care: Current Care is our new initiative for the remainder of the year. Whether you
are a new short-term patient here for rehabilitation services or this is your home signing on
to Current Care is simple and promotes continuity of care. This electronic medical record
houses all of your information so that you can view your records, any of your specialists
can view your recent labs, testing, radiology and medical diagnosis. The positive side to
this is reducing the amount of unpleasant procedures, repetitive testing and lack of commu-
nication between your Medical Professionals. It is secure, private and safe. Please see Jen-
ney Couture in Admissions or Melissa Lavallee in Social Services for a quick sign on.
Please take advantage of this program. We are here to assist you.

“I LOVE YOU, love letters in
the sand!”
-Jean D.
Aside from some accounts in ancient China, the rain
umbrella originated as a parasol (the term more
commonly used for a sunshade) and is documented
as being used in areas such as ancient Rome, ancient
Greece, ancient Egypt, the Middle East and India as
early as the 4th century B.C.
The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days
of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal
rising of the star Sirius, which Greek and Roman astrology connected
with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. They are
now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
Many people today use the phrase to mean something like that—but originally, the phrase
actually had nothing to do with dogs, or even with the lazy days of summer. Instead, it turns
out, the dog days refer to the dog star, Sirius, and its position in the heavens. To the Greeks
and Romans, the “dog days” occurred around the day when Sirius appeared to rise just before
the sun, in late July. They referred to these days as the hottest time of the year, a period that
could bring fever, or even catastrophe. The phrase “dog days” was translated from Latin to
English about 500 years ago. Since then, it has taken on new meanings.

FAMILY CAR
The fleeting summer days of August prompt spur of the moment
day trips. Here are some of our best memories!
Marjorie M. remembers visiting 5 brothers who were in the
service. She would visit where any one of her brothers were
stationed.
As for Margaret R., she would go to Rocky Point with her two
girls and had clam cakes. “A lot of good memories.”
Leonora used to go to CT and visit her niece. She would spend
time with her then have something to eat before heading home.
Nellie fondly remembers going to Wickford and visiting her
cousins.
Rose D. remembers going to the Cape with her grandchildren.
Not just for a day but for a week or more vacation!!
Having a fish dinner by the water is what Mary C. enjoyed the
most.
As for Coco, she mostly enjoyed going to the beach and staying
all day with her parents and relatives. “We liked being by the
water. We brought macaroni, etc. for a nice picnic.”
Mary D. remembers going all over with her family.
“ We did a lot of travelling as a family.” Going to New Hamp-
shire, Vermont and other places was always a treat!”
And finally, Gloria T. happily remembers not doing anything.
“I was always in my night gown!” But if a friend called up and
said, “lets go to Lincoln and gamble!” I’m up!”
