Student Uniform Guidelines
Kankakee School District #111 school uniform consists of:
• All slacks, pants, capris, skirts, jumpers, or shorts should be a solid color khaki, black, or navy blue. Jumpers, skirts, or shorts must be just above the kneecap or longer; pleat or flat fronts are acceptable.
• All gentlemen in 4th grade through 12th grade must wear a belt. Belts should be dress type with plain buckles. Belts should be a solid color white, black, navy blue, or brown.
• Shirts and blouses should be collared, long or short sleeve knit polo, or golf shirts in a solid single color white, Columbia blue (light blue), maroon or navy blue. KHS students may also wear black collared shirts.
• Sweaters, cardigans, vests, suit jackets, and coats (when worn during the school day) should be solid single colors white, Columbia blue (light blue), or maroon. District letter jackets and District logos are allowed.
• Shoes allowed with uniforms are athletic, loafers, or dress shoes. All shoes must be closed-toed and closed heeled; fastened or tied; and must match each other. Shoes should be brown, black, white, or navy. During the summer months, sandals may be worn as long as they have a strap on the back. No flip-flops are allowed.

Welcome to Kankakee School District #111, Home of the KAYS!!
On December 5, 2015, over 50 stakeholders including community members, parents, administrators, teachers and students met to discuss Kankakee School District 111’s vision, mission and priorities. After this meeting, the District Leadership Team met to create the following strategic plan:
Vision:Kankakee School District #111 will celebrate the unique diversity our students possess
while providing visionary educational opportunities.
Mission:Kankakee School District #111 will be recognized as being progressive, innovative and creative. We will work together to
build ONE community with strong partnerships. We are ONE district committed to increasing student achievement. We have ONE vision of producing globally productive citizens. We do this for the diverse needs of ALL Children.
District Goal 1:Kankakee School District # 111 will further develop and implement multi-tiered systems of support for all students for a productive future beyond high school.
District Goal 2:Kankakee School District 111 will build a positive public perception through consistent communication to all stakeholders regarding the District’s work with teachers, parents, students and community members on conflict resolution, safety, health and well-bring.
District Goal 3:Kankakee School District 111 will develop and effective system of communication including roles and responsibilities, expectations and procedures that will support, encourage and retain effective leaders.

ATTENDANCEStudents are expected to attend school regularly. When this is not possible, please telephone the school or send a note by 9:30 am on the day your child is absent explaining why he/she is not in school.
SCHOOL DAYFor children in kindergarten through sixth grade, school begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:40 pm For Kankakee Junior High and High School students, school begins a t 7 :40 am and ends at 2:50 pm.

The Board of Education meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 pm (Check calendar for the location as it changes for each meeting.) The board meetings are open to the public and time is set aside at each meeting for public comments.

FOOD SERVICESKankakee District 111 will be par-ticipating in the USDA program called “Community Eligibility Provision”. Students will receive free breakfast and lunch. Students who choose to select items from the a la carte menu will be required to purchase those items as is currently the procedure.

MAGNET PROGRAMThe District’s Magnet Program was initiated in the Fall of 1979. The program was so named because, like a magnet, it draws students regard-less of where they live in the district to a particular building for either a specific style of teaching such as Montessori or a special subject matter focus such as the fine arts.
