Riccardo Zandonai’s masterpiece returns to the stage in a rare revival, the first time in more than 25 years, as Great Performances at the Met presents Francesca da Rimini on

Sunday, August 18, at 1:30 p.m. (CT). Piero Faggioni’s production, which sets

the action in Renaissance Italy, stars Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek (pictured) and Italian tenor Marcello Giordani as Francesca and Paolo, the star-crossed lovers whose doomed romance inspired an episode in Dante’s Inferno. Marco Armiliato conducts a cast that also includes the American baritone Mark Delavan as Gianciotto, Francesca’s brutal husband, and American tenor Robert Brubaker as the wicked Malatestino.

August Television Highlights

Elvis Presley was at the pinnacle of his superstardom when he made television history in 1973 with Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii, a live concert special televised

globally via satellite. Now, 40 years later, don’t miss one of the most outstanding concert performances of his career as Elvis sings “Suspicious Minds,” “Hound Dog,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “My Way,” “I Can’t Stop Loving You” and many more. New! Saturday, August 3, 8:30 p.m. (CT)

Filmed at the Summit arena in Houston, Texas, on Nov. 20, 1975, The Who Live In Texas ’75 captures The Who at the peak of their incendiary performance career. Originally only available as a bootleg, the original video

footage has been restored and the sound remixed by longtime Who collaborator Jon Astley. The result is a concert film that retains a raw visual edge but features considerably improved audio. New! Friday, August 2, 10:00 p.m. (CT)

In Gloria Estefan: The Standards, the seven-time Grammy Award-winner performs some of her all-time favorite songs—from the Billie Holiday classic “Good Morning Heartache” and her adaptation of

Chaplin’s “Smile” to her wedding song, “El Dia Que Me Quieras,” translated into English for the first time as “The Day You Say You Love Me.” New! Saturday, August 3, 7:00 p.m. (CT)

Hugh Laurie says he consciously adopts a character when he’s acting, “but with music, I don’t know. I
