Book BuddiesBook buddies have their final meeting on August 7 at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm. Teens agreed to buddy-up with a younger child (ages 3 1/2-8) to read for an hour in a one-on-one session. Please call the library to check on availability.

This performance concludes our Summer Reading Program. Any participant who did not receive his/her completion prize and certificate may do so at the end of this program. Refreshments will be served.

Children’s BubbleEight-year-old Kate Placido will display her collection of horses in the Children’s Room Bubble for the month of August. Kate has been collecting horses since she was five years old, and she enjoys collecting horses because they are pretty and helpful. So don’t forget to stop by the Children’s Room to see Kate’s great col-lection!

Bryant University TutorsThe Greenville Public Library and Bryant University are once again participating in a Federal Work-Study Pro-gram as part of the America Reads Challenge to provide Reading Tutors to elementary school children who would like extra help in improving their reading and comprehension skills. It is our hope to once again team several elementary students in the community with a Bryant student involved in the program. Students will be matched up on a first-come-first-served basis. Applications may be picked up in the Children’s Room of the Li-brary beginning August 13 and should be returned by August 27. Please call 949-3630 x2 for more information. The program is scheduled to begin in September. Space is limited.

Daytime Art Classes with Adele Karbowski starting on Thursdays in September for 6 to 12 week sessions: Fine Art and Art History Classes for ages 9 and up

Art Classes combining Art History with a creative artistic experience of many different mediums expressed in painting, drawing and sculpture. Be inspired by the artists of the ages while combining art with other sub-jects.

Exploring Art for ages 5 to 8Your child will learn the very basics of drawing, painting and sculpture in a supportive creative environment. They will have fun while learning these important fundamentals of creativity and interdisciplinary learning.

Afternoons in the Library

Teens looking for a place to come to relax, cool off, meet friends, play games, use the computers and maybe do a craft or two will find it here in the Baker Room at the Greenville Public Library. We will be open Monday and Wednesday afternoons through August 22nd from 2:00-5:30. Just stop by, there is no signup needed. Crafts or Activities will run from 3:00-5:00. Some of the fun includes Wii Gaming on July 30th, Computer Programming with Alice.org on Aug 1st and Wednesday at the Movies (with snacks) on August 8th, 15th and 22nd.

We still have Yoga classes on Thursdays given by the yoga instructor from the YMCA. It is for anyone between the ages of 11-17. There is still room for the last 2 classes on Aug 2nd and 9th. Sign up is available online at www.yourlibrary.ws.

Summer Reading It isn’t too late to sign up for summer reading. Prizes are given weekly for completing a BINGO ($10 Gift Cards). There will be a Grand Prize Winner drawn on August 11th who will receive a Nook Simple Touch.

We have multiple copies of the summer reading books for Smithfield High School. Come in and choose one before they are all checked out :).

The Baker Homework Center will be open on the first day of school and every afternoon when school is in session. We have computers, tables to work on for projects and homework, and a librarian to assist with homework questions. If you need a break from school work there will also be special days that will include crafts, games, book clubs and snacks. Updates will be posted on our FaceBook page and at www.yourlibrary.ws on the young adult page.
