Kia ora, Who can believe that we are in week five already, boy time flies when you are having fun! Classes are in full

swing planning new ideas for our school. You may like to have a chat at home about what each class is doing. I can’t wait to see the final results.

We were in a Math's frenzy last week with Nik Laing running a whole week of quizzes and fun. By golly did Math's come alive across the school. A massive thank you to Nik for organizing maths week. We love, love, loved it! Nik is already onto her next assignment– Cup Cake Day/animal mufti day in support of the SPCA. This week we ask parents to donate cup cakes to be sold during lunchtime on Thursday. Children can buy a cup cake for $1.00 and help give back to an organization that works tirelessly for animal welfare. Goodness knows what Nik’s next assignment will be, I can’t wait as it always involves fun, smiles and energy.

Planning for our school disco is well underway. Please put your name beside a task to ensure a well organized and fun night for tamariki. The fabulous Alex is organizing this event. Please catch up with her and put your name down as a helper. Many hands make light work!

We are loving having the flash dental caravan at school. Our technicians are very skilled and friendly people. If you have any queries, go over and have a yarn.

Both senior camp and tent city 2016 are starting to be organized. If you would like to attend, please put your name down. All parents need to complete a Police Vet to participate.

Finally, please return your health survey. This will be used to report to the Board of Trustees and as a planning tool for our 2016 classroom programme. Your voice is important, please let us know what you think.

CHALK/PARENT DIRECT BROCHURES The CHALK and PARENT DIRECT brochures have been sent home. Final day for orders is September 25th, 2015. Please return all orders and payment to the school office. Orders will be returned to the school for you to pick up next term.

FUNDRAISER CALENDARS Orders forms have gone out. Please return order forms to the office with payment by Friday 18th September 2015. Calendars and card packs are $12 each and will be back at school mid term 4.

GYMSPORT FESTIVAL Practices: Tuesdays 8.15am-8.50am.

Tuesdays 12.40-1.25pm. Wednesdays 12.40-1.25pm.

Competition date 31st August. Held at Waihi College Gym. Entries due by 17th August. Thanks to those already entered. Tracey has been training the team and will need help with transport on the day to get to and from Waihi College. A parent helper is also needed for on the day. Please let the office or Tracey know if you can help.

AFTER SCHOOL TURF HOCKEY At next week’s turf hockey night there will be sausages and bread for sale. $2 each. DRAW for next week 25th August 2015 3.30pm East 2 v Beach 4.30pm East 1 v Central Lions

READING TOGETHER WORKSHOP Do you want to know how to make reading at home with your child a positive and fun time? Pop into the Waihi Library. Nik Laing will give you some tips to help you feel more confident reading together with your little ones at home. Thursdays 1.45-2.45pm. Starting 27th August to 10th Sept.

School Notices WINTER SPORTS TOURNAMENT (7’S)

The Winter Sports Tournament was scheduled for today, however this has been postponed till Friday 21st August due to the weather. Come along to Morgan Park and the Waihi Netball Courts to support our tamariki. Please note: there will be no BBQ available on Friday as previously advised.

AGRICULTURE DAY—Monday 2 November This year Waihi East School’s Agriculture Day will be held on Monday 2nd November. Group Day will be on Friday 6th November at Waimata School. Registration forms are now available at the office for all children needing to register their calf, lamb or kid for this year’s Agriculture Day. We also have bottles of Animal Health Tonic kindly donated by Agri-Sea NZ. Make sure to ask for your free bottle when you hand in your registration form.

CUPCAKES FOR SPCA We will be selling yummy cupcakes this Thursday (tomorrow) in support of the SPCA. We are asking whanau to make some cupcakes to bring along and donate for sale. Students are able to wear ‘animal mufti’ on Thursday. Come dressed as an animal, or come in animal print. If you feel you don’t have anything suitable, get creative! Face paints are always a winner! We look forward to seeing your amazing creations. We will have an ‘edible’ prize for the most outstanding outfit for Team Piwakawaka and for Team Kotuku. There is NO gold coin charge for this mufti day. Cupcake sales will go like this:

Lunchtime: Students will be able to buy one cupcake to eat during lunch. $1 each. After school: We welcome whanau to come and buy any leftover cupcakes to take home. $1 each.

SCHOLASTIC ISSUE # 5 Scholastic brochures have been issued and orders close on Friday August 28th. All orders and payment to the office.

KIDS’ PAGE I got my shoes with my money from my birthday. By Alex K, room 8, age 6.

Yesterday me and Evah and Mum went to see a very big pony. We gave her an apple and we had a all look at all the gear and we used the bridle and the owner said “you can lead her over and ride it up to your new block of land to ride in a bigger paddock”. I was happy. By Isabelle C, room 8, age 6.

The Day Richard Injured Himself On Saturday at 10.51 Mum said “Let ‘s go over to the school. It is called Australia East school . Australia East school had 10 classrooms and 150 students. Their principal’s name was Mr. John Jeans . They had a sports trolley and a bike track . They had obstacles like a see-saw, a jump, two bridges, an over bridge and bumps. Richard’s teacher was called Mr. Willy Jeans. The weather was fine so John, Richard, Mum and Dad all went to the school with their bikes. When they got to the school Richard and John smelled the bike track and it smelled horrible . Richard said “Mum can I go on Bikez? Mum said “okay “. So he did. Then John said “Mum can I go on Mick? Mum said “Okay”. So he did.

When Richard went over the see saw he did a big jump and then he grazed his leg and the blood went from top to about half way down. He went to Picton Hospital with Mum, Dad and John. Bikez and Mick were in the boot of the car. Luckily the doctors put a plaster on him, then he got a snack and it was a packet of chips. He said “I am happy that I an all better”. Then they went home and had a BBQ. They had 5 mashies, 20 patties and 10 chips. Then they had a party. They had KFC, McDonalds and Burger King. By Sam B, room 8, age 7.

WAIHI BASKETBALL CIRCLE OF GROWTH YEARS 5 & 6

Starts: Thursday 13th August for 6 weeks, 3.30-5pm at the Waihi Events Centre. Three weeks of drills and skills and three weeks of tournaments. Waihi East School has a new fundraising project!

Parenting by the Stars is an exciting parenting book for New Zealand parents and caregivers at all stages of parenting.
