Stimulus vs Percept Continuity Illusion
• Context influences ambiguous stimuli in vision
• What about basic auditory features, such as pitch?
Chambers & Pressnitzer, in prep.
Effects of context in the perception of ambiguous pitch
You will hear a sequence of tones, a short pause, and then two final tones. Is pitch going up or down between the two final tones?

Effects of context in the perception of ambiguous pitch
• Ambiguous pitch stimuli: Shepard tones, tritone interval(Shepard, 1964; Deutsch, 1987; Giangrande et al., 2003)
• Biasing tones: more Shepard tones, within a half-octave range
Chambers & Pressnitzer, in prep.
