Comments: I recently looked up this website to show a friend, who Audie Murphy was. I remember a lot of great movies when I wasa kid, but the best part of him is the real life hero that he was. Even better is his humble attitude. Audie was truly a great man, and a sorly needed example for much of (not all)today's spoil youth in the USA .

Comments: Have been a fan for years and having only just gone online this was the first I looked for.Have read both Audies book, To Hell and Back, and Don Grahams, No Name On The Bullet, which I regard as one of Audies best movies. I am an ex serving member of the Australian Defence Force and often used Audie along with our own VC winners in Leadership Lectures. Now that I have found the site I intend when time permits and I am more practiced at using the net to do a complete run through the sites.Thanks.

Comments: Such a great site, really. My family has a rather personal connection to Audie Murphy. My grandfather on my mother's side, William Keith Edmondson, was the officer under which Audie Murphy started his career! According to my mother (I never met my grandfather, he died 6 years before I was born), Audie Murphy was one of my grandfather's favorite soldiers - and with good reason! I am VERY happy to see websites like this on the net, too many of my generation don't know what kind of sacrifices my grandfather's and Audie Murphy's generation had to make.

Little did I realize that years later I also would be a Second Lieutenant (2LT) in the famous 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry (Charlie Company: Mar-Sep 90 and Delta Company: Jan-Jun 91 - DESERT STORM). The POEM still serves to inspire me. I first read it when visiting Audie Murphy's grave at Arlington National Cemetary when I was stationed there while I was a Non-Commissioned Officer serving in the Third U.S. INFANTRY (THE OLD GUARD). People speak daily, of what are now, our "modern-day" heroes - the policemen, firemen, etc - NO ONE can TRULY compare to the manner in which AUDIE MURPHY lived his life and gave of himself - THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE... That's probably why GOD called him - earlier than most - HIS WORK HERE WAS DONE... May we all - LIVE OUR DAILY LIVES AS WELL AS HE...

I am doing some research on WWII, and trying to find out why so many Military men and women in WWII were not brought home to be buried. It seems so sad that we did not, or could not, bring them home. If you can shed some light on this, I would be very appreciative.

Comments: I was working on a ranch near Ardmore Oklahoma and had come in for lunch and the foreman's wife told us that Audie Murphy had died in a plane crash. I had had a crush on him since I was a school girl. He was so handsome and seemed so polite. I would like to have a collection of his movies so my kids and grandkids could see them. I bought my son, who is now 23, the movie "To Hell and Back" for Christmas. He likes his western movies also and is trying to find a poster or picture of Audie. Thanks for this site.

Comments: To All, Guess who's not retiring May 1st after all? On Monday afternoon, March 31st, I found out that I had been recalled to Active Duty and that my unit had been trying to get a hold of me for three weeks. My job specialty is in the Field Artillery. That fact, plus the type of unit I was assigned to, determined my eligibility for recall. Because I had already served for 20 years, I was told a waiver would probably get approved, and I could retire on schedule. I optioned to return. There are a small hand full of reasons: (1) Duty, Honor, Country. (2) It's still an all-volunteer Army. (3) With 20 years experience and knowledge, I'm an asset. (I'm very, very good at my job) (4) At 48, I'm a mature soldier and can keep my wits about me, under pressure, better than most younger guys. (5) That f*&?%$$#@! Saddam has p#$%^!me off one too many times! We'll be over there a minimum of six months, and no more than one year. Whether the war is actually over when we get there doesn't matter. We'll still be there for six months.... feeding refugees, sweeping off airport runways, picking up trash & Iraqi soldier body parts! So, the earliest I could be back is in October. Please keep me in mind around that time frame. Oh yeah, I have to leave between the 9th and 12th of April! My wife, Kim is okay with all this. She doesn't like it at all, but she understands. She was former Active Duty Air Force during the Vietnam years, her ex-husband was in the Army for 16 years before they divorced, and she's been a military civilian employee for 26 years. She knows how things work, but like I said, she doesn't have to like it. I'm not sure about what e-mail assets are going to be available, but I'm taking this laptop with me. I'll try to keep in touch periodically, but no promises. This e-mail account will stay open, Kim's account is here too. Her address is: [email protected] Oh yeah, don't look for my face to pop up on CNN, I've never been politically correct and I tell the truth (within the confines of operations security). I'm not a very good public affairs/A&R choice. My mailing address "over there" will be: SSG George K. Keck HHB, 3/18th FA 91420 APO AE 09302-1420 That's it for now, my friends. I've got to inventory and pack 3 duffel bags full of my favorite "Uncle-Sam-issued-desert-camouflaged-camping-equipment".

Comments: I grew up reading about all of the heroic men and women of WWII. My grandfather was a member of the 28th Infantry Division and received a purple heart for wounds received at the Siegfried Line. Audie Murphy is a shining example of the American warrior for freedom and may his name be remembered reverently for centuries to come.

Comments: Great Audie Murphy site. I take exception to Lisa Harris' depiction of John Wayne as a draft Dodger - untrue! He was turned down when he went to SIGN UP due to a football injury. He went to Washington & petitioned the War Dept. but was again denied. Please don't malign this great patriot! email me for a copy of President Reagans remarks of him after his death if you doubt this. Thanks.

Comments: Thank you for the opportunity to view these wonderful pages you have made honoring Audie Murphy. I enjoyed going from one site to the next...very informative and interesting. America has always needed a hero...and Audie was that hero to us...and now, there are only 139 Medal of Honor recipients still alive. One of them, Jose Lopez, who also received his Medal of Honor in WW II. He is a friend of mine I met overseas while in the army. I look forward to reading the other areas you have made available to us. God Bless America and may God watch over and be with our military in Iraq .
