Winter is here Whilst we have not had the rain of last week and the dreaded ‘wet weather metable’, the temperatures are definitely dropping with some very cool mornings greeng us. Many students are sll lightly dressed and there has been a rush to the lost property box to borrow some warm clothing in the first few hours of school. I am guessing that many students go from a warm house to a warm car and then jump out to a cold school, which takes a while to warm up. Please look out those warmer items of clothing or wear some layers. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Issue No. 17 20th June 2013

CASEA program concludes On Tuesday our CASEA program concluded with feedback sessions conducted with parents and staff. Ms O’Neill has done a wonderful job in coordinating the program. The families involved have appreciated the support, understanding and strategies discussed. I would like to thank the CASEA team of Megan, Denise and Kerry for their work and the families involved for their regular attendance. Random Acts of Kindness The second week of our initiative drew more nominations than week 1, which was great to see. The panel were much more efficient in their deliberations this week and came up with the following results:- Senior Unit winner – Paris Morgan for always taking care of others around the school, particularly younger students. Junior Unit winner – Sophie Scoble – for helping

another student find her lost money without

being asked.

ANZAC DAY

Congratulations Mrs Ryan Last week Mrs Ryan was successful in picking up a position at The Lakes School in South Morang. This school is much closer to her home and will save her a lot of travelling time each day. On behalf of the school community I would like to acknowledge and thank Mrs Ryan for her work at the school. In the short time that I have been here I have seen her as a caring and considerate teacher. Thank you Mrs Ryan and good luck for the future. Mrs Ryan will take up her new position in term 3 and the school is currently conducting a process to fill the vacancy. School Reports First semester reports will be sent home next Monday 24th June. Winter is here Whilst we have not had the rain of last week and the dreaded ‘wet weather timetable’, the temperatures are definitely dropping with some very cool mornings greeting us. Many students are still lightly dressed and there has been a rush to the lost property box to borrow some warm clothing in the first few hours of school. I am guessing that many students go from a warm house to a warm car and then jump out to a cold school, which takes a while to warm up. Please look out those warmer items of clothing or wear some layers.

CIVICS AND CITIZENSHIP AWARDS talk to each other. Jibes or put downs seem to be a greeting to some people. Of course this often leads to a similar response and we have an escalation of verbal abuse which echoes around the yard. In many cases the situation could have been totally prevented by more friendly words of greetings or saying nothing at all. I do appreciate that such be-haviours can take a while to change, nevertheless, I would urge everyone to think before they open their mouth and give out some hurtful comment, and ask themselves, ‘do I need to say this, or is there a better way to say it?’. Thank you My stay at Heathcote finishes tomorrow and it has been a full on 3 weeks for me. The school is full of youthful energy which quickly woke me from my retirement hibernation. It has been good to ‘get back into harness’ for this relatively short time and remind myself of why I chose teaching as a career. Heathcote PS has very good, hardworking and car-ing staff. I thank them for their support and profes-sionalism. To the students a big thank you. Some were and remain, suspicious of this man with the long name; different accent who wears a tie, but most were very friendly, curious and fun to be around. I would like to drop in to say hello from time to time.
