IMPORTANT DATES
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s been another great week of wonderful learning. This week we share with you some of our ‘Student Opinion Survey’
results. The survey is completed by all Year 4-6 students in our school. The results demonstrate our students are happy in
our school, feel safe and supported in their learning and are challenged to do their best both socially and in their learning. As
a staff we are about to sit down and reflect on the data and celebrate what we do well and what we can do better.
The headings on the table above from left to right are – Effective Teaching Time, Differentiated Learning Challenge,
Stimulated Learning, Classroom Behaviour, High expectations for success, Effort, Teacher Concern, Learning confidence,
Resilience, Motivation and Interest, Self regulation and goal setting, Attitudes to attendance.
2
The headings on the table above from left to right are – School connectedness (sense of belonging), Student voice
and agency, Sense of inclusion, Advocate at School, Managing Bullying, Respect for diversity.
We have been very pleased with the results, there is a slight difference to last year. We know we have raised
learning expectations and this can be seen in learning confidence, some students are being taken out of their
comfort zone and extended. The balance is to make sure students feel supported in this change. A very pleasing
statistic is that around the percentage of students who feel any ‘bullying’ issues that may arise are handled very
well, 93% of our Year 4-6 students felt the school dealt with issues, followed up. This is the second year our results
have been at such a high level, well done to both our students and teaching staff. At the Principal meeting last
Wednesday we shared our results, the feedback from those attending was very positive. As a staff, we will keep
working to improve outcomes for our students, both socially and in academic achievements. We apologise for the
quality of print due to trying to fit it on the page, however we are happy to print off the results for anyone who
would like to look more closely at the data report.
All things books!
Our Book Week celebration day will be held on Thursday 23rd August. Ms Sergi will be back to work with us on a
range of exciting creative activities between 9.00am – 1.30pm. First thing in the morning we will have a parade in
the Gallery for any students who would like to dress up as their favourite book character. At the conclusion of the
parade students will move off to their activities for the morning. Our Book Fair will also open for business on
Thursday 23rd August. The display will be in the Office. Parents/Carers are welcome to come in and have a look
at the books available. Students will also have the opportunity to come and have a browse and make some
prospective selections they may want to share with you! Books are wonderful things for our students, daily reading
and reading for enjoyment are important.
DET Parent Survey
Thank you to the families who have completed the Parent Opinion Survey. The data we will receive later in the year
from this survey is important to school communities. As staff we reflect on the data to see what we can celebrate
and what we can improve. Students, parents and staff are surveyed each year to provide feedback from members
of our community about our school. We value your input, if you have not finished the survey we urge you to take
the time to complete it. Closing date is coming up soon and we would still like everyone to have their say. Thank
you for your anticipated support

Responsible Pet Ownership
Tracy and her four legged friend Hannah visited our school on Friday. Tracy worked with all classes about
responsible pet ownership and how to treat dogs at home and out in public. Hannah enjoyed her visit with us and
was a very well behaved dog! Please ask your child/ren about their learnings from Tracy’s visit. The photos show
Rhiannon and Liam meeting Hannah the correct way and with permission.
Transition for Kinder students
If you know of anyone who is starting school next year and has yet to enrol, please ask them to contact the school.
Thank you!
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder that we have a Pupil Free Day on Monday 27th August. No children will be at school on this day.
Staff will be working on our Maths curriculum. Each pupil free day provides us with valued time to work on school
projects to develop our teaching and learning environment.
Have a great week.

Head Lice
We have had an incident of head lice reported at the school. We ask that you be extra vigilant and regularly and
thoroughly check your child's hair.
If we all work as a team on this we will achieve the best results for our students.
If your child has long hair we ask that they wear it tied back when they are
attending school.

In the classroom with year 1/2
We have been learning about machines. We constructed our
own machine out of recycled materials.

Following on from last week’s lesson on the
different types of rocks, this week everyone
made their own rocks. Well, not exactly rocks,
but we investigated the way rocks form by using
chocolate.
First up was sedimentary rocks. Students grated
three different coloured chocolates, wrapped
the shavings in aluminium foil and compressed
it. The different chocolates joined together in
layers to form our rock.
Taking this rock and more shavings, we made
little boats and floated the chocolate in hot
water. The chocolate partially melted and
remixed together to make metamorphic rock.
Finally, by completely melting our chocolate and
letting it cool, we simulated what happens to
igneous rock. The runny lava chocolate cooled
to make a solid, or our igneous rock.
