It is the time when we consider what it means to accept this greatest of all facts about reality: that, in Jesus Christ, God came among us, accepted the death we imposed on him, yet rose in that humanity for the sake of our salvation. In Lent we considered our sins, and the sins of the world, that led to the death of Christ. Now we have to consider the remedy for sin. Yet perhaps we hesitate like the disciples did. If we do so, it is not because we cannot accept rationally the possibility of eternal life. The grace of God is strong enough to overcome all doubts. No, it is not reason that holds us back, but fear. Fear of a new life, fear of its demands, fear of what we might lose. The resurrection changes everything. The disciples felt afraid. So do we. In the presence of the risen Christ, we discover that perfect love drives out fear. It is strange how some of the resurrection readings do not involve a meeting with the risen Christ. Instead we are told about the stories of those who come to the empty tomb. Perhaps this is because Jesus does not reveal him- self to his disciples, until they have been prepared to meet him. They have to look inside themselves first. The apostles deserted him. On Holy Saturday, they had to consider what they had done. Now they hear something that suggests that this is not the end. He has said he would rise again, but they had not listened. Do they believe now that this might have happened? Are they willing to accept a risen Christ? If it is true, then everything is changed, but change is frightening. Our own faith in the resurrection is like that. To find faith, we first have to look inside ourselves, to really think about what we have become, and who we truly are. Living Faith, 2019

Easter Sunday: “The disciple saw and he believed” Easter Sunday is the beginning of our resurrection time. It is the time when we consider what it means to accept this greatest of all facts about reality: that, in Jesus Christ, God came among us, accepted the death we imposed on

him, yet rose in that humanity for the sake of our salvation.

Perhaps this is because Jesus does not reveal him-self to his disciples, until they have been prepared to meet him. They have to look inside themselves first. The apostles deserted him. On Holy Saturday,

they had to consider what they had done. Now they hear something that suggests that this is not the end. He has said he would rise again, but they

had not listened. Do they believe now that this might have happened? Are they willing to accept a risen Christ? If it is true, then everything is changed, but change is frightening. Our own faith in the resurrection is like that. To

find faith, we first have to look inside ourselves, to really think about

what we have become, and who we truly are. Living Faith, 2019

Easter At St Brigid’s

“Hallelujah! Today is the feast of the Resurrection, the final movement in the symphony of salvation has been played. The last transformation from the earthly to the spiritual has been completed in our Lord’s victory over death. What once separated us from the divine has been restored by the Lamb of God. Today is a day of rebirth, of unity restored, of communion, and of celebration. It was a new day then, nearly 2,000 years ago, and it has been a new day of every Easter since. Let us give praise for this reunion and cherish the face of Christ in everyone we encounter. Amen! Amen!” Pope Francis

Happy Easter, may this day bring blessings and love to all our parishioners and visitors. Thank you to our wonderful musicians and choir, we appreciate the generosity of your time and commitment to our parish. We also extend our thanks and gratitude to our flower arrangers, sacristans, Readers, Ministers of Communion, altar servers. Fr Phil
