Its been a long journey, but the end

result is a breathtaking and a lasting

testament to the inspiration and hard

work of three renowned local artists.

The Kidogo Artists Team - indigenous artists Deborah Bonar

and Wendy Hayden, together with Joanna Robertson - has

created a stunning contemporary artwork for Port Coogee

that has been painstakingly reproduced in glass and installed

in park locations around the estate. Comprising seven

separate pieces, it tells seven stories inspired by the Beeliar

    Boodjar and the Nyoongar people.

Joanna Robertson said the project has been an

    extraordinary experience.

We three artists have had an amazing time working and

    painting together, Joanna said.

The process of creating a large scale public art piece like

    this has been fascinating.

We have worked with a terrific, highly professional teamof smart people. Australand has been so enthusiastic and

supportive right from the start; they couldnt do enough

to make it easy for us to logistically create the designs we

wanted to do. They didnt ask us to change anything, allowing

us to deliver the total, seven-piece project as

    we envisioned.

And we cannot praise enough the enormous effort of the team

from Cooling Brothers. They went to extraordinary lengths to

match these gorgeous colours in the glass; to cut such difficult

forms so accurately; and to install the works so precisely.

The art pieces were installed on 14 October 2013.

It was breathtaking to see our designs finally in place,

    Joanna said.

The rich colours in the artworks really sung against the

blackened grass trees and brilliant blue sky.

The project was managed for Australand by Beverley Iles

    from Artsource.

We are a not for profit visual artists membership association

who acted as a project manager for Australand,

    Ms Iles explained.

We have an Indigenous development programme, and were

very pleased to be able to work with Kidogo in developing this

    work for Port Coogee.

All three artists are excited to finally see their work in place

    after years of hard work.

We are thrilled and very proud of these pieces, Joanna said.

They look incredible against the backdrop of the beautiful

landscape and homes of Port Coogee. We love the fact

that residents and visitors will enjoy the Aboriginal stories,

and see the references to the immediate environment.

At Australand, were not just developing beautiful places

to live; were also creating safe, connected communities. To help ensure Port Coogee continues to be a safe,

harmonious environment for residents and visitors, we

have been working with the City of Cockburn to install

closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras throughout the

Marina (including the Marina beach area) and soon at

the northern public car park off Caledonia Loop. This

will link Port Coogees existing community CCTV system

Cockburn Sea Rescue a vital coastal serviceBoating is a big part of the lifestyle at Port Coogee, and aspart of our commitment to safety at sea, Australand is proud

to sponsor Cockburn Volunteer Sea Rescue (CVSR). As

the group is virtually self-funding, the sponsorship is vital in

assisting to keep their boats on the water.

CVSR operates thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers,

who are available with rescue craft and salvage pumps 24

hours a day, seven days a week. Their area of operation is

huge roughly from the old South Fremantle power station

in the north, south to the Kwinana Grain Terminal, and as far

out to sea as a rescue takes them an area of about 1,000

square kilometres. Working closely with the Water Police,

they answer hundreds of callouts a year. Commander Mike

Graham says rescues have increased considerably in the last

couple of years, including assisting several vessels from the

    Port Coogee Marina.

Weve gone from an average of around 130 rescues a year

to over 200, with around 600 people being safely returned toshore, Mr Graham said.

We are very grateful for the generous sponsorship from

Australand, and invite all boat owners at Port Coogee to

register with us and become affiliate members.

We also strongly advise them to log a sail plan with us before

    venturing offshore.

Now is an ideal time to start getting into shape and feeling

great for summer, and what better place could there be -

outdoors in the fresh air against the magical backdrop of the

    marina and beach.

Its a lovely way to wake up the body and get focused forthe day, Joy said.

Its really worth getting up early and coming down.

Were so lucky to have such a beautiful location; we get the

sun coming up over the hills, the beach behind us and were

often blessed with the presence of dolphins coming to watch!

Because Australand is keen to encourage outdoor fitness

at Port Coogee, weve kept the cost to just $2 per class,

but bookings are essential so call Joy on 0412 229 931.Classes are planned to break on December 18 for the

Christmas holidays, but depending on demand, could

    continue throughout the summer months.

Take Five...with Justin FrenchJustin and Hayley French were one of the first

families at Port Coogee, moving in just over three

years ago. They have now bought another blockcloser to the marina, where Justin moors his boat.

He takes five to explain why he loves where he lives.

I first chose to buy in Port Coogee because....We wanted

to live close to the ocean, somewhere with ocean views, and

be able to moor our boat within walking distance of our home.

Port Coogee ticks all the boxes on our wish list. We have now

purchased our second block here, and are just finalising our

    new house plans.

What I love most about living at Port Coogee is....

The marina plays a big part of our lifestyle, as well as the kiddy

beach, which we utilise a lot during summer with our almost

three year-old daughter Sienna, who calls it Siennas Beach.

The bike paths are great, and its an easy ride into Freo. Also,

with the Dome caf opening later this year, it will be a real

bonus to be able to walk down for a coffee and meal.

Something you may not know about Port Coogee is....

Summer evenings are priceless - the marina is becoming a

haven for budding photographers getting shots of the sunset

with the marina in the foreground. Even I have a great photo

of a Port Coogee marina sunset that is proudly displayed on

    my laptop screensaver.

My perfect day at Port Coogee is...We always wake up

with great views of the three islands (Garden, Carnac and

Rottnest), so thats a good start to any day. The perfect day

is calm waters and taking the boat out of the marina across

to Rotto or down to Mandurah for lunch or for the weekend.

Enjoying the time with good friends and family.

In five years time Id like to be... Unless I get another

work assignment overseas, we will still be in Port Coogee!

Weve travelled a lot and lived in cold countries, so we enjoy

the weather and lifestyle of Perth/Freo. Building our second

property in Port Coogee and moving a few streets closer

to the marina means we will not be going far...but hopefully

working less days a week to enjoy the lifestyle!

More awards for Port CoogeeMore proof that Port Coogee is a winning estate!

    2013 UDIA WA

    Award for Urban

    Water ExcellenceAustralands commitment to

    environmental management

    was further acknowledged

    after Port Coogee received

    the Urban Water Excellence

Award at the recent 2013 UDIA

    WA State Awards for Excellence.

The Port Coogee team won the award for turning the

challenge of nutrient-enriched groundwater into an

opportunity, by intercepting the groundwater and using it

for watering public open spaces and residential gardens,

via a third pipe. This solution not only reduced the risk of

poor water quality and algal blooms in the marina, it reduced

potable water consumption in the residential development by

    using the filtered groundwater.

The UDIA Judges also cited Port Coogees water sensitivelandscaping, stormwater infiltration and in-house water efficiency

as initiatives worthy of this winning this prestigious award.

Congratulations to all involved, in particular to Julian, Danielle,

Julia and Trent for the continued commitment to driving the

residents understanding and usage of the third pipe system

without people embracing the system, the asset would remain

    an underutilised environmental benefit.

For Port Coogee residents wanting to connect to the thirdpipe system, call the Australand office on 9214 7900 and we

will get it sorted for you.

    CCAA Public Domain Awards 2013

Port Coogee was also a winner at the state Cement, Concrete

and Aggregate Australia Public Domain Awards. This was afantastic win, and was the only award handed out in WA all

the other gongs went to Sydney and Melbourne projects.

The award was for the newly completed stages of the Marina

Village Stage 1, the beach and the water playground, and

recognised the expressive way our designers incorporated a

diverse range of treatments into the landscape of the public

open spaces. The treatments ensured the spaces remain

appealing while being a key feature of the structural design.

Judges said the quality of workmanship is demonstrable in

the tactility of form and texture in the play and formal elements

alike. It is a disciplined project that also enables an expressive

play environment for children and adults.

    Big congratulations to all involved!

With the spring weather finally here, we all look forward

to more active days in the sunshine. This brings with

it outdoor enjoyment for all the family, and what better

way to celebrate than to organise an afternoon of fun at

your local park or beach. Looking for opportunities to

include activity and exercise to this past time is the way

forward to a happier, healthier lifestyle.

With both State & Federal elections decided, we can all

form a clearer perspective on the future of our Country.

The past few months have seen positive signs in the
