Brought up in Boston and an All-Ireland winner in 1994 and now living in Connemara with a Music Shop and School in An Spidéal he continues to record, play and teach music. In 2012 Colm was awarded a first class honours masters degree in Traditional Music Performance at The University of Limerick. CONCERTINA - Kelly Gannon. An All-Ireland champion musician who has been playing the concertina since the age of 6 Kelly Gannon now continues the family tradition of teaching in An Spídeal. Kelly studied classical piano through the Royal Irish Academy of Music and has over 10 years teaching experience. TIN WHISTLE - Mick Crehan. Mick, a member of the famous Crehan family from West Clare runs the Crane Bar in Galway, one of the most famed traditional music house in Ireland. A whistle player of note he likes to focus on the compositions of his uncle, Junior Crehan and the music of Micko Russell who had a strong influence on him in his formative years. BODHRÁN - Johnny “Ringo” McDonagh. A sought after tutor Johnny has invented several ground breaking techniques that have extended the musical vocabulary of the instrument such as the backslide and playing on the rim. Quite simply, there is no-one better to learn the true art of the Bodhrán from than Johnny. SINGING - Orlaith Keane. Growing up in the famous Caherlistrane Keane family, surrounded by her father Matt, and as niece to Sean and Dolores and her grand-aunts, Sarah and Rita, was like growing up in an ongoing masterclass of singing and performance. Orlaith has recorded a number of CD’s with her father Matt and also has released her own solo album. FLUTE - John Wynne. Recognised as a flute player playing in the prominent North Connaught style John has recorded and toured extensively. John is also busy teaching whistle and flute during the year in Roscommon, and is sought after during the year at workshops and Winter/Summer schools in Ireland and beyond. FIDDLE - Jesse Smith. Growing up on the US East Coast, in a musical family Jesse moved to Ireland after graduating. He has many recordings to his name both solo and in collaboration with many fine traditional musicians and has also received a Master of Arts Degree from Dundalk Institute of Technology. BANJO - Colm Naughton. Colm Naughton is a renowned banjo and mandolin player from Creggs in North-East Galway. When he moved to Galway in 1994 he became immersed in the vibrant Trad Scene. In 1998 he became involved in the setting up and teaching at The Galway School of Trad Music. He continues to teach Banjo and has been collaborated on many recordings. SEAN NÓS DANCING - John Joyce (Seán Seoighe) Club Damhsa an Sean Nós, Ballinasloe are delighted to invite as guest tutor, John Joyce (Seán Seoighe) from Clifden. Oireachtas and All Ireland Fleadh Champion, John will bring his own unique style of Connemara Sean Nós to this workshop. The songs and tunes from Gatehouse are based on the North Connaught traditions along with sprinklings of other influences, such as O’Carolan and Josie McDermott among others.
