Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Head of QAU, Department of International Relations and Advisor on Non-Proliferation, South Asian Strategic Stability, in his keynote paper asserted five important aspects in building constructive relations between Russia and Pakistan covering wide range of issues on terrorism, anti-ballistic missile, arm race, economic, develop-ment and political cooperation. He viewed that Paki-stan and Russia need an everlasting and constructive bilateral relation. Praising Russian President Vladimir

Putin, that he was first one , who stood for multipolar world order against the unipolarism, which brought great hope in survival for least and developing countries. Former Pakistani Ambassador to Russia Mr. Khalid Khatik focused on secu-rity arrangement and counterterrorism that Russia and Pakistan have to establish a joint mechanism. The Guest Speakers contributed valuable thoughts over the Pakistan Russia Political and Economic Relations, Elaborating current dynamics, trust building measures, Promoting business, trade, in-vestment, scientific and technical cooperation and Promoting cultural relations between Pakistan and Russia that focus to build a multi-dimensional part-nership in trade & investment, energy, agriculture, industrial engineering, marine, telecommunication, petroleum, electromechanical, environmental engineering, water purification, sewerage, oil wastage recycling, mining/drilling refining, chemicals industry , science & technology, culture, tourism and people-to-people contacts and oth-

ers. Pakistan and Russia both are having thrust for mu-tual cooperation and support for private sector busi-ness activities. Newly elected MNA Mr. Engr. Ali Mo-hammad Khan elaborated different phases of Russia Pakistan relations. He asserted bilateral relation dur-ing Military dictatorship in Pakistan were harsh and in the period of democratic government were friendly. He paid rich tribute to late Prime Minster Zulifkar Ali Bhuto, who did his best to build trust and constructive relations between Moscow

and Islamabad. MPA from KPK Mr. Zahid Durani who did his higher education from Russia shared his experience about social and academic aspects of Rus-sian life and asserted that public health and education

are always on top priorities of any Government in Rus- —

sia. Engineer Iftikhar Ali, Secretary General of Is-lamabad chapter of Association Pakistani Gradua-tion from Russian and CIS presented welcome note. He informed guests that more than 5000 Paki-stani professionals have graduated from Russia & CIS and now serving different fields and contributing in national development of Pakistan. He paid rich trib-ute to the peoples of Russian federation and CIS for their valuable contribution to Pakistani nation.

Photo exhibition and Archive were displayed histori-cal document and bilateral visit of

NUST PARTICIPATED IN 3RP INTERNATIONAL YOUTH INDUSTRIAL FORUM IN RUSSIA

COLOMBIA AND JORDAN HOSTING MEETINGS OF FOREIGN ALUMNI OF RUSSIAN (SOVIET) HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Jordan will host All-Arabian Meeting of For-eign Alumni of Russian (Soviet) Higher Educational Institutions in Amman in October. Another, Latin-American Alumni of the Russian (Soviet) Higher Educational Establishments from 14 countries of the region will also hold their meeting from 2nd October to 7th October at the city of Madaba. The main topic will be "strengthening and Developing Relations of Alumni with Alma mater". Various other meetings shall covered wide issues such as The Past and Present Experience in Training Spe-cialists at Russian Universities: Challenges and Outlooks'. During preliminary sessions problems including employment assistance to alumni of the Russian (Soviet) universities, recognition of qualifi-cations of alumni of the Russian (Soviet) universi-ties, arranging business contacts among associa-tions of alumni of the Russian (Soviet) universities, educating youth at the Russian universities: out-looks and today's problems and others will be dis-cussed .

Delegations from various South Asian countries will also participate in this Get-together and de-bate to establish an active framework for regional body of South Asian Alumnae of Russia and CIS countries. The First Day of the event, 28th September will provide an opportuni-ty of sightseeing and excursion to Lonavala/Khandala & Karla Caves. The Second Day, 29th September under the title of The 'Pune Darshan' will have official function.

The delegates of the Forum attended a highly topi-cal educational program of a Summer School of Engineering Sci-ence that included: lectures from the well-known and world-recognized professors of the leading Russian technical universities; corporate educational courses from industrial enterprises; Work-shops on engineering from international speakers; National Engi-neering Science Young Researchers' Conference. Russian govern-ment sponsored boarding and lodging of delegates.

1st RECTOR OF THE PFU

July 18 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous scientist, organizer of higher education in the USSR, the first rector of the Peoples' Friendship University RUMYANTSEV Sergei Vasilyevich. He created the University and headed it from 1960 to 1970. It was diffi-cult but interesting years of formation of the unique in the world univer-sity. Sergey Vasilievich was highly educated and intelligent person peo-ple. He respected the students and teachers of the University, sharing with them the successes and difficulties of the University. PFU Graduates respectfully recognise his services. Senior Graduate Abdul Waheed salut-ed him for providing a great international experiment in higher studies to the students of 3rd world countries, Megh Raj Tiwari said that he re-spect him too much because of his education from PFU. Zainal Abedin said that we are proud of hirn, Ms. Atyia T. Imam respected him as the founder of our university PFU in Moscow. Dr. Shahid Hasan said that Ser-gei Vasilyevich was the Great Son of the GREAT NATION, " I am proud of him, because founded such a great university under the supervision of CPSU, which gave an opportunity to the people of under developing coun-

RUSSIAN EMBASSY CELEBRATED NATIONAL DAY

ISLAMABAD: Russia's Ambassador to Pakistan Andrey Budnik hosted a reception on the occasion of Russia Day. Prime minister's Special Assistant and State Minister Dr Musadiq Malik was the chief guest. Among the other prominent guests were the heads of foreign embassies and other missions, the departments concerned of the

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and other ministries, representatives of the army leadership as well as scientific and business elite of the country, correspondents of print

and electronic mass-media. The event was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. On the occasion prior attention was given to increasing ties between Russia and Pakistan who celebrate this year as the 65th

anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Russian diplomats and Pakistani guests expressed satisfaction that today the official bilateral contacts at the highest and high levels became a regular occurrence. They stated that it was logically stipulated by growing understanding in Moscow and Islamabad that our countries have many common interests and objectives. There are many issues on international and regional agenda, including economic cooperation, joint realisation of regional energy and transport projects, safeguarding regional security and stability, combating terrorism and extremism in all their forms and manifestations. The reception demonstrated enduring friendliness and positive attitude of the Pakistani politicians, businessmen, scientists and cultural figures towards Russia. The participants stressed the necessity for further development of the Russian-Pakistani mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

RUSSIA AND PAKISTAN: BUSINESS

DELEGATIONS EXCHANGE

This year two high level delegation will exchange a visit to Russia and Paki-stan this autumn. Paki-stani delegation headed by Malik Zubair President of FPCCI will visit Russia and Mr. Gennady Seleznev, Chairman Rus-sia Pakistan Business Council will lead a Rus-sian delegation to Paki-stan in October this year. Mr. Seleznev is former Speaker of Duma (Lower House of Russian Parlia-ment) and worked with both Late President Boris Yelstin and President Vla-dimir Putin. Both delega-tions will discuses several areas of common inter-ests between the two countries, related to im-provement of competi-tiveness of Pakistani busi-ness linkages with Rus-sian Federation besides, work closely with trade channels across Russia and to create focal point in successful partnerships between Russian and Pa-kistani enterprises in trade, technology trans-fer, investment, infra-structure, energy and other areas.

Golden Days brings first time life and professional career of Soviet/Russian graduates in their home countries around the world. The documentary production of Pakistan chapter was sponsored by Habib Rafiq Group Ltd and coordinat-ed by Dr. Shahid Hasan. Production Team arrived in Islamabad early morn-ing on 27th June. After arrival, team met with the members of Associa-tion of Pakistan Gradu-ates from Russia and CIS countries. HABIB AHMED HOSTED IFTAR-DINNER

Mr. Habib Ahmed Honourary Consul of Russian Federation hosted an Iftar-dinner for Islamabad-based diplomats, officials and business communi-ty. Large number of diplomats, Member of Parlia-ment, senior government officials and business-men from twin cities attended Iftar-dinner. Association of Pakistan Graduates from Russia and CIS appreciated the organisers of Celebration of 65th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Russia Federation and Pakistan for their efforts to establish hart to hart relations be-tween peoples of Russia and Pakistan. Mr. Habib Ahmed Honourary Consul Of Russian Federation in Lahore addressed Glob-al Think Tank Network (GTTN) at NUST upon the invitation of its President, Mr. Amer Hashmi. He shared his intention in GTTN's plans to establish academic linkages with leading academic institutions in Russia under the umbrella of the envisaged GTTN Russia Node. Dr. Farid Khwaja, resident fellow at GTTN gave a br ief presentation on the GTTN Russia Node and elaborated the progress. Dr. Shahid Hasan was coordinat-ing with Oriental Institute Academy of Science Moscow, Peoples friendship university Moscow and Mos-cow State university of Foreign Relation to establish academic linkage with NUST. Miss Amnna Ashfaq coordinated this event.

Avdeev , in Karachi . Mr. Oleg N. Avdeev was b o r n in 1 9 5 9 . he graduated from M o s c o w Universi ty of Internat ional Relat ions of the USSR in 1 9 8 3 . Since then, had different diplomatic post ings in the centra l d e p a r t m e n t of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad. In 1 9 8 3 - 1 9 8 7 , 1 9 9 1 - 1 9 9 5 and 1 9 9 7 - 2 0 0 3 was posted in India. He served from 2 0 0 5 - 2 0 0 9 as Con-sul General of the Russian Federat ion in Chittagong, Bangladesh. In July 2 0 1 3 he has b e e n appointed Consul General of Russian Federat ion in Karachi, Pakistan. He speaks fluently English and Urdu languages.

Later in the 20th century relations between the USSR and Pakistan were loaded with events which sometimes put us on the opposite sides of the di-viding lines. Our cooperation suffered ramifications of the bipolar system of international relations. The Soviet Union contributed in the development of Pakistan oil and gas industries, construction of power stations, supplied agricultural machinery. It was then that Pakistan Steel Mills, the flagship of Pakistani economic, as well as Multan and Guddu power plants were constructed with the financial and tech-nical assistance of the USSR. He said Pakistan became one of the front-runners to have recognized Russia as a legal successor of the Soviet Union in 1991. The intensification of our political contacts is logically stipulated by growing understanding in Moscow and Islamabad that our countries have many common interest and objectives in safe-guarding regional security and stability, combating terrorism and ex-tremism in all their forms and manifestations. He said that Russia fully recognizes and appreciates Pakistan's valuable contribution to fight against these global evils. Thousands of Pakistani soldiers and officers, policemen and intelligence officials sacrificed their lives while purging their homeland of terror hotbeds, proving with deeds the commitment of Pakistan to genuine Islamic and universal values. He said that today the Pakistan is our reliable and important partner. Multifaceted cooperation between the two countries is gaining its momentum.

He said an interbank cooperation and financial mechanisms are in process and correspond-ent relations between Russian and Pakistani banks shall be establish to credit lines, trans-actions and other banking instruments for the business community of both countries. He said that Russia and Pakistan both are young democracies and trying to evolve par-liamentary systems and electoral practices. He further emphasized that President of the Russian Federation Vladimir V. Putin is highly keen to develop friendly relation with Pakistan and Muslim world. It was President Putin vision that Russia joined as Observer Member of OIC and he also sup-ported Pakistan's candidacy to become member of Shanghai Cooperation Organiza-tion.
