EXAMPLE ANSWER 1. Flooding is a serious risk to the UK.

Why is it and who would it affect?

2. Can it be prevented?

Flooding is a natural event and so it is difficult to prevent. Flood defences can be put in place to prevent it or diverting rivers so as to send the water into other areas.

Very expensive and would take a lot of time to carry out.

FLOODING

Yes! If we have good plans in place then the scale of the damage of flooding can be reduced. Having lots of sandbags for people, having the emergency services ready with all the appropriate kit and trained to use it. Make sure traffic diversions are put in place and evacuate areas quickly. Boats made available to get people out of areas and have food, water and shelter ready for people. Make sure diseases don t spread through medicine and drugs.
