a) What is Network Address Translation (NAT)? How is it used? List four objections raised by the IETF community to NAT? (5 Marks)

b) Explain the “Dual Stack” and “Tunneling” techniques for transition from IPv4 to IPv6? (5 marks)

Question 2:

a) Explain the “routing loop” problem in Distance Vector (DV) Routing Algorithm. Also provide a technique to avoid this problem. (5 Marks)

b) Differentiate between Routing Information Protocol (RIP) and Open Shortest Path First Protocol (OSPF)? (5 Marks)

Question 3:

a) Explain the purpose of Priority, Flow Label and Next Header fields in the IPv6 header? (6 marks)

b) Explain the “Path MTU Discovery” mechanism in Ipv6? (4 marks)

Question 4:

a)What is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)? For a newly arriving host, DHCP is said to be a four step process. Explain these four steps (4 marks)

b) What is Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP)? Briefly explain the purpose of the following ICMP messages.

(1) Source Quench

(2) Destination Unreachable

(3) IP Header Bad (8 marks)

c) Differentiate between ICMPv4 and ICMPv6? ( 3 marks)
