Assessment of two district delivery points in Chhattisgarh
OBJECTIVES:
Assessment of delivery points and services in two district hospitals.
METHODOLOGY:
Study Design: Cross-sectional study
Study period: Between April and June 2016
Study Area: Raipur, Dhamtari
Source of Data: Data was collected from Raipur District Hospital and Dhamtari District
Hospital.
Data Collection: RMNCH+A monitoring Check-list was used (Reproductive Maternal Newborn
Child Health and Adolescent Programme of Government of India)
Consent: Permission was taken from the civil surgeon to visit the district hospital
Results
Infrastructure
1. Basic hospital infrastructure was good and available in both the hospitals.
IN RAIPUR DISTRICT HOSPITAL
Habitable Staff Quarters for MOs, Staff Nurses and other categories were not
available. Due to this, they may not able for emergency cases.
Functional Blood Bank was not available in District Hospital Raipur.
IN DHAMTARI DISTRICT HOSPITAL
Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic timing was mentioned in hospital, but services have
not started in hospital.
Equipment
Most essential equipment was available in both the hospitals. However Functional Fetal
Doppler was not present in either district hospital.
ESSENTIAL MEDICAL SUPPLIES
Most essential medical supplies were available in both the hospitals.
Sanitary napkins were not in supply at Raipur district hospital.
IFA tablet (blue) was not in supply.
EDL was not displayed in either district hospital

Comparison of few performance indicators in both the districts
1. NUMBER OF TUBECTOMY CASES
COMMENT- High no. of Tubectomy cases are seen compare to allotted gynecologist and
anaesthetist especially in Dhamtari district.
2. ADOLESCENT FRIENDLY HEALTH CLINIC
In Raipur

COMMENT- Very few cases are seen in Adolescent clinic. The counselor could be utilized for
other services like counseling before HIV tests, and of TB, Hypertension, Diabetes and Sickle Cell
patients who need long term treatment
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Training programs for medical officers on C-section, Tubectomy and LSAS to reduce
case burden.
Staff quarters should be provided to hospital staff to ensure their availability in
emergency situations.
Supply of essential medicines and equipments (IFA-Blue, Calcium) should be ensured.
Rational use of Counselors by utilizing their skills for many other health programs.
