ASIAN LP GASSUMMIT 2014
10 - 12 March 2014 | Manila Hotel, MANILA - PHILLIPINES
With one of the fastest growing economies in South East Asia, Philippines plays host to the 2014 Asian LP Gas Summit as the industry debates on the challenges and bottlenecks for increasing the energy demand for LPG in the Philippines.
The 3 day event brought together over 790 industry participants to address the key issues facing the industry and how the industry must change in order to ensure that it remains relevant. One of the key issues that was to be addressed was that despite economic and population growth, LPG demand in the Philippines was stagnant. Myths about the adverse health effects from autogas as a vehicular fuel also hampered the growth of the industry where the Philippines was struggling to get beyond the 4,000 vehicles that has been converted to LPG autogas. The industry needs to do more to police itself and ensure that the conversions are of the right standards and that the technology can meet the expectations of the industry.
Pertamina from Indonesia, Petredec Elpiji from Bangladesh, and the Japan LP Gas Association all gave concrete examples and case studies on how they are tackling issues on LPG growth in their countries, which beneted the audience immensely. Pertamina showcased their kerosene to LPG conversion project that saw the uptake of 55 million households to LPG. Petredec Elpiji highlighted their strategies to reduce their restocking times which saw their market share grow from 8% to over 50% in their desired marketplace while the Japan LP Gas Association went through the lessons learnt from their LPG autogas programme.
All in all, the Summit was very successful and we welcome everyone to join us again in 2015!
