Did you know that 15 houses have been built in

Ashcott in the last 10 years? Sedgemoor planning

policy requires that houses continue to be provided at

a similar rate. More may need to be built to address

local needs or to help achieve village priorities.

The Neighbourhood Development Plan will enable us

as a village to influence the quantity, type, style and

area on which they are built.

A questionnaire will soon land on your doormat, look

out for this chance to voice your opinion.

If you would like anymore information p lease contact

a member of the Steering Group (details are on the

website.

All Saints Church News

Dear Friends,

I do not normally quote the Bible in these letters, as it can often be taken out of

context, and have no scaffold for those who are not familiar with its text. However

we are starting a new year, and in my travels around our parishes I see and speak to

many people. Many of you have suffered illness in your families during the last

month and many face an uncertain future with jobs in the balance, finances which

you are struggling to cope with, and many other issues.

I cannot give any answers to solve all of l ife’s problems, and I would not presume to,

but I feel it is appropriate to share the gift of “faith”. In our lives these days many of

us do not encounter a spiritual dimension. We are taught practical things and how it

is good to have a life with physical exercise. We are given factual knowledge and

all of our children and grandchildren are adept on a mobile phone, computers and

I Pads (all of which play their part in modern life). But, where do our children, and us

for that matter, experience peace, or quiet or have an opportunity to develop their

own spirituality? This is not a sneaky way of asking you to come to church – I realise

that “church” may not be the right place BUT our Christian community might be a

starting point. I will be asking the question “What can we do for you?” over the next

few months when we meet. “What do you want for your children – how can we

help release the spirituality that each child has?”. The one we adults often crush in

an attempt to make them like us. The spirituality we adults have too and are often

too busy to recognise or nurture.

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are

mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass

through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you

will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour. Isaiah 43 1-3 (NIV)

This quote from the Bible is my gift to you this spring. I believe in a higher power

which is there when we need it – a spirituality that enhances our l ives and enables

that part of us which we often feel is missing. If traditional church is not for you but

you think we can provide something in our villages to meet the needs of our young

people and children and yourselves please let me know. I believe in a God who is

there when times are tough and who can make a difference if we let him. Let go of

your misconceptions and let God in – enable us – your Christian community to help

you in the way you need – not the way we might think you need!
