SACRAMENT OF SICK—MASS OF ANOINTING At the 8:00 am Mass on Friday, July 6th, the Sacrament of the Sick will be administered. Fellowship in the Parish Community Room will follow Mass. Q. Who is a suitable candidate for being anointed? A. The Sacrament of Anointing is intended for those who are in danger of death or are seriously ill, as well as those who are awaiting or recovering from serious surgery; the elderly who are notably weakened and dealing with the debilitating effects of aging, even if no serious illness exists. Sick children are permitted to receive the Sacrament provided they have achieved sufficient maturity to understand the nature of the sacrament and have the desire to receive it. The Sacrament of Anointing is not intended for those with mild ailments such as the common cold, an upset stomach, or scratchy throat. “If there is any question about the severity of the illness, the benefit of doubt would be given to the person requesting the Sacrament.” (Pastoral Care of the Sick #8-12, 15) Rev. Msgr. Jim Braaten, Pastor

Our BEAUTIFUL new church roof has been completed! Thank you to all the generous donors who have contributed towards this project. Our goal is to raise $50,000. Please prayerfully consider a financial gift to help cover the costs of maintaining our church structure. “AS EACH ONE HAS RECEIVED A GIFT, MINISTER IT TO ONE ANOTHER, AS GOOD

STEWARDS OF THE MANIFOLD GRACE OF GOD.” – 1 PETER 4:10

FIRST FRIDAY FELLOWSHIP First Friday Fellowship will be held on Friday, July 6th in the Community Room after the Mass of Anointing. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit with your fellow parishioners and enjoy coffee and pastries. Hope to see you there!

Mk 6:1-6a

“Your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs.” This is the fourth time in 2 Corinthians, Chapter 8 that St. Paul addresses the issue of giving. What Paul is trying to explain is that the motivation for giving should be similar to God’s motivation for gifting us. In the passage which constitutes today’s Second Reading Paul says, “As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also.” In the original, Paul uses the old Greek word charis to describe the giving to which he is making reference. We can probably see that the roots of that word are very much the same as the roots of the word “charity.” Giving and sharing are definitely the work of God’s grace in us. In fact, our motivation should be very much the same as that of the Lord. He gives to us because of Who He is, not because of what or who we are. We, too, must give if we wish to show holiness, or to at least aspire to it. That is also what we mean when we say that we are all called to stewardship, to be good stewards. It is one thing to be faithful, but it is another to give. At times we may think there are too many collections, but it is the results of these opportunities to give which support the Church’s work both locally and around the globe.
