6th Grade Team Structure

• 2 Teams (6A and 6B)• Each team has 6 teachers (Language Arts,

Science, Reading, Social Studies, Math, Special Education)

• Students of all performance levels are included on each team

• Co-teaching exists on both teams• Learning Support and Regular Education Teacher• Co-Teaching is an instructional strategy used to

deliver the grade level curriculum.

• Struggle with sense of identity• Focus on self, alternating between high expectations

and poor self-esteem• Moodiness• Mostly interested in the present, with limited

WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS…❑ The level of academic achievement that students attain

by eighth grade has a larger impact on their college and career readiness than anything that happens academically in high school.

❑ The earlier a student develops important academically related behaviors, the more likely these behaviors are to become habits.

❑ Middle school is a defining point for students in the college and career readiness process.

1. Behavior is learned and serves a specific purpose.

2. Behavior is related to the context within which it occurs.a.    This is why parents and teachers don’t see the same

behaviors

3. Children comply with the rules 80% of the time. Guess how often they are complimented for appropriate behavior? a. Less than 2 percent b. We can increase appropriate behavior by 80% just by
