NOVEMBER 2019 Mitchell Freeway Southbound Widening Cedric Street to Vincent Street Principal Shared Path detour As part of the Mitchell Freeway Southbound Widening project, a Principal Shared Path (PSP) detour from Glendalough Train Station to Goody Close in Mount Hawthorn is required for an 8-week period commencing 2 December 2019. The detour includes a closure of eastbound footbridge access. Detours for cyclists and pedestrians Several options have been carefully considered to maintain a north-south route for shared path users during construction, and ensure the safety of cyclists, pedestrians, road users and the construction workforce. With safety our highest priority, detours go through a process of rigorous planning and assessment. Proposed detours developed by Road Traffic Management, are reviewed by cycling group representatives, local government and related government agencies, and include a road safety audit prior to implementation. PSP Detour: Glendalough Train Station to Goody Close, commencing 2 December 2019 The detour only impacts the current 2m wide shared path connection between the existing pedestrian bridge servicing the Glendalough Train Station and Goody Close. Access to the Station via the footbridge from the western side is unaffected, and the Station will continue to operate as usual. Path users will be detoured onto local roads where it is expected to add an extra 10 minutes walking time to access the Station. Signed detours will be in place. See map overleaf. The detour will commence on 2 December 2019 for a period of 8 weeks until late January 2020. Mitchell Freeway Southbound Widening Cedric Street to Vincent Street

Principal Shared Path detour As part of the Mitchell Freeway Southbound Widening project, a Principal Shared Path (PSP) detour from Glendalough Train Station to Goody Close in Mount Hawthorn is required for an 8-week period commencing 2 December 2019. The detour includes a closure of eastbound footbridge access.

Detours for cyclists and pedestriansSeveral options have been carefully considered to maintain a north-south route for shared path users during construction, and ensure the safety of cyclists, pedestrians, road users and the construction workforce.

With safety our highest priority, detours go through a process of rigorous planning and assessment. Proposed detours developed by Road Traffic Management, are reviewed by cycling group representatives, local government and related government agencies, and include a road safety audit prior to implementation.

PSP Detour: Glendalough Train Station to Goody Close, commencing 2 December 2019The detour only impacts the current 2m wide shared path connection between the existing pedestrian bridge servicing the Glendalough Train Station and Goody Close.

These months were chosen to minimise impact to path users, Station passengers and local residents, when it is a traditionally quieter time over the holiday period.

Construction worksThe detour will allow for the installation of noise walls and PSP upgrades including widening the existing 2m wide path from Glendalough Train Station to Goody Close to a new 7m wide path separating pedestrians from the cyclists, and widening the existing PSP from Goody Close to Bonnievale Street.

NotificationsTemporary signs will be installed prior to the detour commencement. The signs will be located at the shared path entry points and will remain in place for the duration of the detour. Directional signage will guide cyclists through the detour route. The effectiveness and condition of detour signage will be regularly monitored.

The Main Roads project website will maintain up to date information on closure and re-opening dates for the detours.

Resident and road user precautionsRoad users are asked to take extra care when driving along the detour route:

Always look out for cyclists

Slow down when passing cyclists

Take extra care when exiting and entering driveways

On bin day, place your rubbish bins carefully to avoid obstructions on footpaths and roads.

Your patience is appreciated as cyclists and pedestrians may be required to use unfamiliar roads.
