ARTS AND CRAFTS A FREE program sponsored by the Recreation Department is our Arts and Crafts Sessions. This program is geared towards the 5 - 12 age group but anyone may participate. Our instructor will guide children in many creative efforts that can challenge their skills and tempt their imaginations. Come and join in the FUN on the following days and times beginning June 11.

BASKETBALL CAMPS The Wheeling Recreation Basketball Camp enters its 40th season and is recognized as one of the finest camps in the Tri-State area. Ask any of the nearly 13,000 boys and girls who have attended since our inception in 1978. There will be two sessions this year at
TRIAdElPhIA MIddlE SChOOl The boys and girls camp, grades 4 - 8,
will be held from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on June 26 - 29. A Biddy Basketball camp for boys & girls
grades 1-3 will also be heldon June 26 - 29 -1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
There will be full court games and contests in each grade level. Instructions in rebounding and defense, body balance and pivoting, passing and catching, ball handling and dribbling, shooting and foul shooting. Director for both camps will be Coach J.R. Battista.
We encourage everyone to register by June 18, 2018. Pre-Registration is $30 and includes a t-shirt and daily refreshment. Registration after June 18, 2018 will be $40. If you’re serious about basketball, we’re looking for you.
Basketball Leagues The Wheeling Recreation High School Summer League starts its 45th season of play on June 3 . it is one of the largest summer leagues in the United States involving nearly 100 teams of high school and junior high age boys and girls.Boys’ league begins on June 3. Girls’ league will begin on July 1. Play will continue through end of July. if you are interested in participating, call your school coach. Leagues include Varsity, Reserve, Freshman & Jr. Pro (7th & 8th Grades). it’s still not too late to sign up for any league. if you are interested or have any questions, please contact the Recreation Department at 304-234-3641.
THE SHOOTOUTS Wheeling will host two exciting basketball festivals this summer at Linsly School, Wheeling Park High School and Wheeling Jesuit University. The boys tournament will feature 32 teams from West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio, while the girls tournament will feature 16 teams from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Come & enjoy exciting high school basketball action.
CAMPS The Recreation Department has established a tradition of offering camps in different sports at an extremely reasonable price. There are many outstanding camps that cost $150 to $250 for the week. Our goal is to offer the same camp experience to every boy and girl at an affordable price. A brief explanation for each camp follows. if you desire a brochure for any camp, please call the Recreation Department at 304-234-3641 and we will be glad to mail you one.
BASEBALL CAMP Play baseball with us this summer. Camp will be held July 9-12. Children ages 5-12 can get tips and instruction in the fine art of running, hitting, sliding and pitching from some of the area’s finest coaches at the Chambers I-470 Complex. Registration fee is $30 before July 2, 2018. Registration at the door is $40. Campers receive a t-shirt and daily refreshment. JUlY 9-12, 9AM – 12PM

FAST PITCHSOFTBALL CAMP
The Wheeling Recreation Department will sponsor a Fast Pitch Softball Camp from Monday, June 18 through Thursday, June 21 at the Chambers i-470 Complex. Camp will be for girls ages 5-12 and will run from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. This camp will have an outstanding staff featuring Sara Pelegreen, Wheeling Jesuit University Coach and players from W.J.U. Campers will get instruction on hitting by using up-to-date instructional hitting aids. Emphasis will be given in fundamentals of fielding, base running and fast pitch pitching. Registration fee will be $30 before July 2, 2018. Registration at the door will be $40. All campers will receive a t-shirt & daily refreshment.

SOCCER CAMP The Wheeling Recreation Department will sponsor its 3rd Soccer Camp on July 16-19. Our goal is to offer a great instructional camp at an inexpensive cost. With the addition of the new turf field in Wheeling, it has allowed us to expand our many sports camps to now include soccer. Our camp is designed to allow kids to be introduced to the game of soccer and to begin learning the fundamental skills needed to play the sport. Camp directors will be Bill Konkle and Aubrey Taylor. Both directors are areayouth soccer coaches. Registration fee is $30 before July 13, 2018 and $40 at the field. Campers will receive daily refreshments and camp t-shirt.

SOFTBALL PITCHING CLINIC The Wheeling Recreation Department is sponsoring fast pitch pitching clinic for grades 1 to 12. Sessions will be held at the I-470 Ball Fields starting August 6 and ending August 9, 2018. Coach John Ritz, veteran instructor from Bellaire, will serve as primary instructor. instruction will be individual and geared to your abilities. Classes will be limited to provide maximum instruction. Balls will be provided but each pitcher must bring her glove. Pre-registration is $40 until August 1. If you attend softball camp, fee is only $20.

In this brochure, we will tell you what we have scheduled, everything from Arts and Crafts to the Zoo at Oglebay Park. We want to make this summer the best ever, but to do so, we need YOU! Don’t sit around and play video games, get out and enjoy YOUR playground. It will be a summer of FUN you won’t forget!
Day Camp at Oglebay Park AGAIN FOR THE YEAR 2018, EACH CHILD MUST HAVE A REGISTRATION FORM BEFORE BOARDING THE OGLEBAY TROLLEY. REGISTRATION FORMS CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE RECREATION OFFICE OR AT GARDEN PARK POOL, BRIDGE PARK POOL, 36TH STREET POOL OR GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS/VINEYARD HILLS POOL. YOU ONLY NEED TO FILL OUT ONE FORM - THIS IS GOOD FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER. THIS FORM MUST BE GIVEN TO THE DAY CAMP COUNSELOR BEFORE BOARDING THE TROLLEY. Children between the ages of 7-12 can spend one day a week at Oglebay Park’s Day Camp. Enjoy swimming, tennis, hiking, games, boating, mini-golf, the Good Zoo and much more. Youth Bowling League at Rose Bowl Lanes
The Wheeling Recreation Department in conjunction with Rose Bowl Lanes will be sponsoring an instructional Youth Bowling League every Thursday beginning June 14 at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until July 19 for anyone up to the age of 16. You will learn the FUNdamental skills of bowling. Cost for the six week program will be $30 per participant and includes a t-shirt, instruction and games and a pizza party on the last day. Shoes and balls will be available for each participant to use. You can register with the Recreation Department or at the Rose Bowl Lanes.
Tennis Lessons: FREE to 5 – 16 year olds - FREE tennis lessons are
available to anyone who would like to learn the game of
tennis. This program is being sponsored by the Recreation
Department. Lessons will be available for beginners or more
advanced players. Parents can register their child at the site
they want to attend. Bring your own racquet but racquets will
be provided if you need one. Registration and classes begin
the week of June 4 at the following locations:

4 City Pools Keep cool this summer at any of our city pools located at
36th street in South Wheeling; Garden Park in Warwood; Bridge
Park on Wheeling Island; and Grandview Pool in Wheeling
Heights.
They are a great place to be in the sun, catch a tan and best
of all is the price; $1.00 for adults; .50 for children 5-12, and
under 5 FREE.

and certified lifeguards
are always on duty.
Learn to Swim The City of Wheeling offers one of the best learn to swim programs in the Tri-State Area. The cost is a nominal $5.00 - now that’s a bargain you can’t pass up. Sessions are open to children three and up. Each session is scheduled for two weeks Monday through Friday. We offer classes from beginners to advanced swimming levels. There will also be pre-school classes for children 3-5 years old (a parent or guardian must accompany child into water). The classes are taught by experienced life guards and instructors. Registration is on the first day of each session anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and a certificate will be given at the completion of the classes.

Senior Swim (50+ FREE) We have stretched the senior citizen age group a good
bit to include everyone fifty and over. The pool will be yours
exclusively every SATURdAY for one hour at 11:00 A.M. under
the supervision of a certified life guard. This program will
be absolutely FREE. You may swim laps or simply splash or
exercise in the water. Sorry, no one under the age of fifty (50)
will be admitted. Remember-there is no charge!
Moonlight Swim Special moonlight swims from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. will be offered at all city pools during the month of July.

SEASON SWIM PASSES The Recreation Department will again offer “Season Swim
Passes”. A Family Pass will be $40; a Single Adult/Student Pass will be $25; and a Senior Citizen Pass will be $15. They can be
purchased at your neighborhood pool.
Family Fun Night (FREE) The Wheeling Recreation Department will sponsor another FREE program at our four city pools. A “FAMILY FUN NiGHT” will be held on the following dates: JULY 6 - 36TH STREET POOL JULY 13 - BRIdGE PARK POOL JULY 20 - GRANdVIEW POOL JULY 27 - GARdEN PARK POOL
There will be FREE AdMISSION into the pool as well as FREE HOT dOGS, ICE CREAM, SOdA and a d.J. The hours will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will also be door prizes and FUN for all. Come and enjoy a FUN FAMILY OUTING at your neighborhood pool.
CHEERLEADING CAMP Chambers I-470 Ballfields will be the site of the 24th Annual Cheerleading Camp for ages 5-10. Camp hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a,m.. Our camp is designed to teach the FUNdamentals of cheering. Camp Director will be Christy Taylor Cheerleading Coach at Wheeling Park and Park Cheerleaders. The clinic will be held on Monday, July 9 through Thursday, July 12. Registration will be $30 which includes a t-shirt and daily refreshments. Registration after July 2, 2018 will be $40.

FREE Lunch program The Recreation Department will be partnering with Ohio County Schools to provide a FREE lunch program this summer at Bridge Park Pool on Wheeling Island, 36th Street Pool in South Wheeling and Grandview Pool/Wheeling Heights Pool. Ohio County Schools is an approved USDA Sponsor of their FREE Summer Feeding Program. They will be expanding this program to include FREE healthy lunches at these three pools. The program will begin Monday, June 11 with lunch being served from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This program is for children ages 2 to 18 years of age. Also, new for this year, a FREE lunch will be provided for all children attending the Recreation Department’s day camp program at Oglebay Park via the Trolley from your neighborhood playground. Children DO NOT need to pack a lunch this year as they have in the past.
