Artistic Director / President’s Message In 1995, my Elly award-winning friend, the late Chris Goetzke, recommended I go see Berkeley Rep’s Journey to the West. He even asked them for the script. At that time, Community Asian The- atre of the Sierra (CATS) was just a small organiza- tion, and I didn’t feel we were ready to take on such a huge project. Fast forward to 2013, I dusted off the script, reread it, saw the potential, and showed it to Director Diane Fetterly, and the rest is history. CATS received 11 Elly nominations and 5 wins for Journey to the West. This is a record for CATS!!! Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance (SARTA) says it is rare to receive a nomination in every cate- gory. If you saw Journey, you will agree with the judges that the nomina- tions are truly deserved. Nominated for an Elly award in the Comedy division were: Diane Fetterly – Director - Winner, Teresa Shea – Set – Winner, Teresa Shea – Costume - Winner,Tim Dugan – Lighting, Tynowyn Woolman Sound - Winner, Michael Baranowski – Lead Actor, Trish Adair – Lead Actress, Kimberly Wellman – Lead Actress, Brett Torgrimson – Sup- porting Actor, Kate Tobie – Supporting Actress, Journey to the West – Best Overall Comedy - Winner. Congratulations to our winners, nominees and EVERYONE involved for bringing this magical show to life. Go to our website at www.cat- sweb.org for photos of the Elly awards event.
