PARENTWORKS OFFERS FOUR WEEK “RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION” CLASS: March 9, 16, 23, 30, 2009 - ParentWorks in a non-profit organization based in Knox County that provides monthly parenting education classes to families experiencing separation and divorce. These classes have run successfully for over a decade. In answer to frequent requests for a more in-depth parenting class, ParentWorks has developed a four-week course. The purpose of the course is to educate participants in responsible communication between family members. This course would be appropriate for parents experiencing separation and divorce, as well as for parents in intact families during times of stress and otherwise. This course could be taken either as a follow up to our four-hour class but we are not requiring previous attendance at the Saturday class. The curriculum will include instruction in the language and vocabulary of expressing thought and feeling, recognizing the difference, and identifying the difference between controlling one’s own actions and those of others. Emphasis will be placed on developing age-appropriate listening, communication, and coping skills, especially suited to times of stress or crisis. ParentWorks hopes that parents will feel free to bring their children. We will provide a meal for participants and family members. During the class time childcare will be provided, which will also include age-appropriate information about responsible communication. The upcoming four-week course will be offered on March 9, 16, 23, and 30, 2009. Class time for each date is 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., beginning with dinner. Classes will be held at the St. Peters Episcopal Church, Rockland. There is no tuition charged for this class. For more information and to register for the course please call 596-0014, during business hours. Registration deadline is March 2, 2009.

MVLT to Host Winter Tree Identification and Wildlife Tracking Event Wildlife enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend a winter tree identification and animal tracking event sponsored by the Medomak Valley Land Trust on February 7 beginning at 10 a.m. Waldoboro resident and Master Maine Guide, Joe Tynan, will lead the event, helping trackers identify some of the trees and wild animals commonly found in mid-coast Maine. Joe will use his knowledge of the outdoors to help participants follow animal tracks and assemble clues to match each track to the correct animal, possibly identify the animal’s destination, the age of the tracks, and more. Each participant will receive a free animal track identification card. The event will take place at MVLT’s 54-acre Goose River Peace Corps Preserve. Participants should meet at the preserve’s trail head on Finntown Rd in Waldoboro at 10 am. From Waldoboro village, follow Rte 220 south for approximately 5 miles. Make a left onto Finntown Road and proceed a mile to the trail head and preserve entrance on the right. Children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult. For more information about this event, conservation options, and MVLT’s services to landowners, please contact the land trust’s Waldoboro office at 832-5570 or send us an email at [email protected].
