CHECK OUT YOURSS RECORDS

A record of the earningsreported for every personwho hat worked in employ*ment or self-employmentcovered by social security itmaintained at social securityheadquarters, Erven L. Fisher,Jr. district manager of theOdessa social security office, said recently.

The accuracy of these re-cords depends in a large parton the accuracy of the reportsmade by employers. Startingwith 1978 wages, reports arcmade just once a year, usingForm W-2 (Wage and TaxStatement). Before 1978,wages were reported fourtimes a year.

Employees can check theircopy of the W-2 Form tomake sure their employercompleted the form correctlyand showed all earnings cov-ered by social security. Theentry in the space for FICAwages should show the am-ount of their earnings cov-ered by social security if thatfigure is different than theirtotal earnings.

If the employee has anyquestion about whether theform is properly completedhe or she should check withhis or her employer.

People can also checktheir own social securityearnings record to make SUPtheir past earnings have beenpronerly reported. All theyhave to do is ask for a copy
