Baden-Baden Events GmbH · Baden-Baden Kur & Tourismus GmbH

A new art event for Baden-Baden!You know us and you know that we always come up with something special for the summer months in the Kurgarten in front of the Kurhaus Baden-Baden. We have found something that appeals to the mind, encourages ex-change and puts the nature of the Kurgarten in a new light - from now on every year. The idea of the big public art event for Baden-Baden is born.

Open to all, in the open air.We call Baden-Baden the “European Capital of the Art of Living“, because its nature, health and culture form a unique bond. We have top-class museums and exhibitions, art-loving citizens, international guests - and the Kurgarten. So why notcreate a stage here for young artists from all over the world? Our greatest wish would be for you to discover what art can be under the open sky. Experience new forms, new expressions, new thoughts - and experience the Kurgarten in a completely different way. Exchange ideas! Art brings people together, makes people think and experience.

Modified Social BenchesBenches! Essential in a park, in public spaces. Jeppe Hein has reinterpreted them. His „Modified Social Benches“ turn sitting into a conscious physical act, encourage new encounters and stimulate reflection: Where do you sit down? Or do you prefer to lie down? How do others use the benches? Find out and share your experience!

ndMirror BalloonsMirrored balloons hang from the ceiling in the open space and subtly move with the air circulation. Only the roof seems to prevent the balloons from floating into the air and the reflection from extending into infinity. If they could fly away and take one wish, what wish would it be?

Shift in PerceptionLooking at the gradually rotating hanging mirror installation, an unusual perspective of the surrounding emerges from the movement of the reflections against the background of the surrounding. Fragments of the space are suddenly placed next to or in front of each other; layered images offer views that cannot be seen simultaneously with the naked eye, making the sur-rounding place seem infinite. Do you see reality or only mirrored reality?

Thank you to our partners:The Advisory BoardThe Lord Mayor of Baden-Baden Margret Mergen and the Managing Director of Baden-Baden Events GmbH Nora Waggershauser have a three member artistic advisory board at their side: Prof. Dr. Florian Matzner, Professor of Art History, from Munich and expert on public arts, Dr. Thomas Köhler, Di-rector of the Berlinische Galerie, as well as Henning Schaper, Director of the Museum Frieder Burda. Together they made the choice: After assessing the individual spatial situation and the unique flair of Baden-Baden, the decision was made in favour of the artist Jeppe Hein. He is known all over the world for his public art projects. His art enforces and initiates interaction with people. Thus, the first artistic intervention in the context of “art meets city“ is to be experienced three-dimensionally, appealing to all the senses and encouraging people to participate.
