We are able to empathize with each other as we all go through various situations in our lives. What a blessing it is for us to feel what others feel, at least, on some level. They may be going through something that we have also experienced in a similar manner. When it is not something that has happened to us, we empathize with the emotion. In Matthew 14:13-14 we find this passage: ‘Now when Jesus heard about John, He withdrew from there in a boat to a secluded place by Himself; and when the people heard of this, they followed Him on foot from the cities. When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick.” These verses and in many other places, the humanity of Jesus Christ is shown. He truly did experience all that we do. He lost those close to Him, He had empathy for others. He is the perfect example for all of us to imitate and follow. Having empathetic feelings is good, but doing something about those feelings is even better. In Acts 20:38 we are told that Jesus “went about doing good”. This can be shown in many ways, including being there for people in time of need. Jesus had the ability to heal, which we do not, but we can pick up someone’s spirit and remind them that they are not alone. Remember how it felt the last time you lost someone close to you? It may have been a relative or just a close friend. Hopefully, you had others who helped you in some way to deal with that loss. When Jesus heard of John’s death He went off by Himself, others followed Him. Maybe to just see this man who was obviously from God, maybe out of curiosity, maybe even to help him grieve. But the Savior saw them and took compassion on them. Sometimes, when we are saddened helping others helps us too. One of the many things that separate us from the animal world is our ability to think and reason.

When He went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and felt compassion for them and healed their sick.”

These verses and in many other places, the humanity of Jesus Christ is shown.

Remember how it felt the last time you lost someone close to you? who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” This is addressed to Christians interacting with other Christians. However, it is okay to do this with anyone in your life. Getting through life is hard enough at times. Please do not reject the help or deprive someone of helping you. Christians who accept help are to be commended. This author has been the recipient of help many times and is grateful for it. One other very important avenue of expressing empathy is with one another is prayer.

Praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ is a very powerful tool. The one who is lifting up the name of their brethren is benefited and the one who is suffering in any way is as well. Our Father wants us to bring everything before Him in our prayers.

Let us all be doing what we can to help each other in this life.
