Sewing is a technique that has been used for thousands of years to piece together cloth into clothing as well as repairing them when needed . I t i s mentioned in the Bible twice; Ecclesiastes 3:7 mentions that there is a “ t ime t o s ew” and a warning about the women who sew in Ezekiel 13:18.
Like sewing, sowing i s u sed to put th ings together, not in a physical sense, but rather in a spiritual one. Sowing the word of God can lead people to mend their hearts and lives in such a way that they see the need to obey the gospel and live for Christ.
In the book of Luke in chapter 8 the parable of the sower is given. Luke 8:5-8 "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up. Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, b e c a u s e i t h a d n o moisture. Other seed fell
among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out. Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great." As He said these things, He would call out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Then an explanation follows by our Lord. Luke 8:11-15 "Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. Those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away. "The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the (continued on page 2)

Sewing is an option that one may use in some way from time to time to make repairs or, if you have the skill, to make clothing. However, sowing is not an option for Christians. All Christians are commanded to sow the word of God to others. Remember the command by Jesus found in Matthew 28:18-20 and also in Mark 16:15-16.
Be a sower today and every day for the Lord. There are many ways that one can do this, so please begin today. Remember that sewing is temporary but sowing is eternal. Our Prayer List
