THE ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN
Aged 19 or over and thinking about further education?
The Advanced Learner Loan is designed to help people aged 19 years and over to undertake a Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 qualification in order to gain intermediate and higher levels skills. It also provides evidence of your skills and knowledge to potential employers and improves your chances of getting the job that you want.
The loan helps you to pay the fees charged by approved colleges and training organisations in England. You don't have to take out a loan but its availability means that you can improve your knowledge and skills, without needing to pay the course fees upfront.
Most learners aged 19 and over, studying at Level 3 or above will qualify for these loans from the UK Government. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. You won’t have to pay anything back until your income is over £25,000 a year.
So don’t delay! For more information visit www.eastleigh.ac.uk/loans or call 023 8091 1299.

Course Fees
For information on course fees, please visit the relevant course page on the website. Click on the ‘Calculate fee’ button to work out the course price, which will be dependent on your situation. Please note this tool is to give you the most accurate indication of costs possible, however final costs will only be confirmed by our admissions team upon application.
For some courses the total fee includes tuition fee, qualification fee and additional fee. For the majority of courses all fees are payable at the time of enrolment. See also Professional Body Membership opposite.
Qualification Fee
This fee is collected by the College and passed on to the appropriate awarding body for your qualification. It covers examination, assessment and certification costs. The College includes a small charge to cover administrative costs. A small number of courses have a range of possible qualifications and the choice best suited to you is made later in the year in discussion with your tutor. Where this is the case, the qualification fee will be payable when the decision is made, rather than on enrolment and will be advised by your tutor.
In the majority of cases there will then be no further costs for the duration of the course. However, if you decide later in the year to take extra units or additional qualifications, the associated fees will be payable at this time. You may also be liable for the costs associated for year 2 of your course.
On some courses there may be additional charges to cover the cost of materials used, on site assessment visits etc. These charges will be discussed by your tutor at the start of the course.
Tuition Fee
This covers the cost of delivering the course.
Professional Body Membership
Courses leading to a professional qualification require students to register with the professional body. Any costs of this nature are payable direct to the professional body by the student and will be discussed at the start of the course.
Reduced Fees
For some courses you may be eligible for help with tuition fees if you:
• are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2018; or
• in receipt of Employment Support Allowance – Work Related Activity (ESA (WRAG)) , ESA or Job Seekers Allowance or Universal credit and actively seeking work.
If you are aged 19+ and in receipt of any of the below entitlements, please contact us on 023 8091 1299 to discuss your study options.
• Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
• Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
• ESA Work Related Activity Group (WRAG)
• Universal Credit
If you can provide proof of eligibility for help with tuition fees please note you may still be required to pay some additional associated course costs. All students claiming reduced fees must provide appropriate evidence of their entitlement at enrolment.

Who Fees Apply to
Fees relate to those learners for whom the College can claim a Government subsidy where this is available. The exception relates to 19+ learners studying courses at Level 3 and above for whom no Government subsidy is available and identified by an Advanced Learner Loan. A learner aged 19-23 on the first day of their first Level 3 course is entitled to full funding or they may opt to fund the course using an Advanced Learner Loan. For other learners, such as those on modern apprenticeships, other youth training schemes or non-UK or EU nationals, a higher level of fees is charged. Any student aged 15 or under on 31st August 2018 will be required to pay a higher fee. They will also be required to supply a letter of authority from their school and permission from the College tutor before enrolment is accepted.
Payment by Instalments for Students
Payment is accepted by cheque, credit or debit card.
• For total fees between £200 and £599 students may pay by four equal and consecutive monthly instalments (depending on length of course) commencing on enrolment and ending at least one month before the end of the course*
• For total fees above £600 students may pay by 3 equal instalments (depending on length of course) with the first payment due on enrolment and the 2 subsequent payments due at the start of each following term. Final payment is due at least one month before the end of the course*
* An additional £10 administration fee applies to both instalment options above.
Fees Paid by Employers or
Other Organisations
Payment is accepted by company cheque, credit or debit card, at the time of enrolment in full. No instalment option is available.
If you wish the College to raise an invoice for the fees, please contact the IAG team on 023 8091 1299. Payment can be made via BACS and our terms are 30 days net.
Please note Employers will be liable for any outstanding course fees should the student leave their employment.
Refunds
College Cancellation
Please note that if minimum number of enrolments is not reached, the course may be cancelled. In an effort to minimise the risk of this happening and to accept late enrolments, decisions to do so may well be within the seven days prior to the course start date. Should the College cancel a course the student(s) will be contacted and a full refund will be given.
Student Cancellation
Where the student cancels before a course starts the College may retain all or part of the fees due to cover losses incurred as a result of the cancellation. Where the student cancels after a course starts they remain liable for the full fees regardless of payment option. The College will retain or collect all fees due.
Starting the Course
After enrolling, students should attend the first session of the course at the venue, time and date shown in this prospectus. Places on courses can only be reserved by full enrolment and the correct payment.
Advanced Learner Loans
If aged 19 or over at the course start date learners may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan from the Student Loans Company (SLC). However, if the loan is declined by the SLC or learners fail to apply in a reasonable time-frame, as determined by the College, learners will not be able to enrol on the course without an alternative arrangement for payment of fees. The College does not provide financial advice regarding the application for an Advanced Learner Loan but learners can obtain free independent financial advice from The Money Advice Service at www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk
Important Notice
Every care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of this prospectus at the time of print. However, the College cannot accept liability for claims arising out of errors or omissions or amendments to Government policy relating to funding. The College reserves the right, without notice, to withdraw, merge or vary any course provision or facilities deemed necessary by the College.
