Conforming to OBC regulations, we designed a mixed use building to accommodate retail and living space. Assigned the area of a parking lot and restrict-ed by zoning regulations, this was the final product of my concepts. The designs included copper and metal cladding and used colours that blend to its sur-rounding context -- this would attract others, allow-ing them to enjoy and appreciate the architecture.

Based on a concept of a revitalized waterfront plan, I designed a museum dedicated to Henry Moore to display his works. In compliance to OBC and zoning regulations and able to come up with this elaborate design. My concept includes a double skin system, using wood and perforated metal.

Preventing excessive lighting which is significant when dealing with artefacts’, the design also incorporates two open atriums that allow for natural light. However it would be diffused to soften its brightness. The first floor also includes an arcade, open for visitors to ac-cess the lower level which accommodates a café and lobby. The building is also primarily glass; allowing for outsiders to view the inside, heightening their curiosity.

This project required me to design a living space while restricted to dimensions of 5 x 5 meters. With the given parameters I designed personal living spaces with emphasis on creativity. The de-signs included pockets of openings to allow sun-light while casting shadows under the levels, hence creating a perfect balance of shadow and light.

The 325 magazine, in its second year of publication dis-played works of students from first through fourth year. It illustrated the capabilities and expression of the Archi-tecture students through new means. I provided extensive contribution to the design and layout of the publication.

This project asked that we briefly step into the broader scope of design in entering Dimension’s Extreme Redesigns competi-tion which encourages us to con-sider innovation and aesthetics for any product. Simultaneously we must remain sensitive to fac-ets of design that architects must always consider including ma-teriality, ergonomics, assembly, functionality and sustainability.

Competition hosted by OSSGA, the project was a proposal to rehabilitate a given area. We created a diverse, eco-friendly environment that was also self-sustaining. Incorporating walkways and watchtowers for public viewing. The lake in the reserve is self-cleansing while the land has been introduced to a va-riety of plant species. The plants found in this environment are based on ex-tensive research from the soil and mineral deposits allocated from the region.

As part of an urban planning project, a proposal was created to re-envision a master plan for the Rockefeller center in New York City. However, there was one catch – it had to be through the eyes of the firm, FOA. Thus, a team of five design students began inten-sive case studies of FOA’s manifesto, design techniques and graphi-cal processes. An appropriate reaction to the site, which plays an inte-gral part in New York, could finally be made through such research.
ROCKEFELLERCENTER PROPOSAL 2009 IAN MACBURNIE
Ground level Pathway
This project paired two students to design lighting control elements for a pre-ordained light fixture. Using elements of graphic design, we were to create a one page instruction sheet for exter-nal parties to understand the iconic and procedural nature of the design. Partners were expected to pre-fabricate the elements necessary for the production of a single light and include the necessary elements with an instruc-tion set in a single envelope.

Origami is seen in many places from simple paper decorations to archi-tectural inspirations. We wanted to apply the similar idea into an every day lamp. We considered materials, minimum waste of material, lighting conditions and form.
We designed a lamp for an appreciation of origami and its use in differ-ent mediums.
funnel
auraboxThe idea of modu-lar pieces was in-spired by folded objects. Com-bined flower petal + folding pieces that once put together, looked like a large pa-per origami crystal

Form and LightWe wanted to create a lamp that was asym-metrical and creates a variety of silhouettes. This would mean that when a person passes by, they would see a different shape. Our lamp has three prong-like features that extrude to-wards the ground.
The light funnels its way down the three prongs with no openings to create a glowing ball-effect that has a perfect light condition distributed evenly, perfect for any living space.

The basis of this project was to design a chair for personal use for travel. The chair was to be light, in terms of weight, compact, in its ability to collapse [or disassemble] and fit within a travel size backpack. The chair was to incorporate an amount of plywood as part of the design proposal with at least one other material be-ing utilized in the final design. The chair was to be able to fit in a travel size backpack and weigh no more than 2.84kg.

Our thesis consisted of selecting a city based on the Silk Route. I chose Baghdad, Iraq as my destina-tion. The idea was to focus on and develop a neces-sary infrastructure within the city based on its liv-ing conditions and circumstances. I proposed the idea of an elementary school for both genders.

Volumetric Plan/Section + Programming
The school itself will incorporate a dormitory, a clinic, a roof garden and a mosque. With emphasis on the edu-cation of the students, it is necessary to provide them with living space and proper medical care and security. Lack of vegetation is also a concern in the area; hence a rooftop garden to provide for the students and teach them how to sustain vegetation is also very significant.

Building typology in Baghdad
During my research on Islam, there was a difference of relationship between men and women between culture and re-ligion. In the Arab nations, men appear superior. Religiously, no one claims pow-er over the other but promotes equality.
