Clean Sport Communication of Sanction The athlete Mr Raimondo LILLIU (ITA) has been sanctioned by the Italian Archery Federation (FITARCO), as follows: Two months of ineligibility, as of 21 December 2009. This decision has led to the disqualification of the results of the athlete in the competition where he was tested, that took place in Cagliari (ITA) on 15 November 2009.

Judging International Judge Conference The International Judge Conference in Porec following the first World Cup stage of the year was the last conference in the present accreditation period for FITA International Judges and Judge Candidates.

The conference was very well attended. It covered several topics re judging procedures and new rules, among them the set shooting and new compound rules valid as of April 2011. FITA Event Director Juan Carlos HOLGADO gave a lecture on Sport Presentation with several good examples. Irena ROSA was "guest speaker" regarding 3D rules, hopefully making our judges more familiar with this archery discipline. FITA and AAF Judges Seminar 2010 The FITA and AAF Judges Seminar 2010 was held at the Egypt Hotel, Bangkok from 21 to 23 May 2010. The honour was given to the National Archery Association of Thailand by the Asian Archery Federation (AAF) to host the event. The aim of the seminar was to update all Asian judges on the new rules and at the same time to get new judges. The response from all member countries was overwhelming with 67 participants from 18 countries including one from Africa. The whole seminar was conducted by Mr Morten B. WILMANN, Chairman of the FITA Judges Committee. At the end of the seminar, the Continental judges authorised by their Member and Continental Association and interested in applying for the International Judge Candidate Status took an exam. Most of them fully succeeded. FITA welcomes the

Coaching ICECP 2009-2010 The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the University of Delaware created a programme called International Coaching Enrichment Certification Programme (ICECP) to certify national coaches from all sports for the improvement of their coaching structure in their countries. Three archery coaches participated in the ICECP 2009-2010 edition with the support of the Olympic Solidarity. The coaches presented their final projects in Lausanne, the Olympic Capital. The FITA Development Department was invited by the organisers to attend the presentation and graduation day at the IOC headquarters and at Maison du Sport International (MSI). FITA Development Department was pleased to attend and celebrate the success of the archery coaches. Yu CHIAO-HSU (TPE), Edward RAMESAR (TRI) and Badamkhatan TSOGT (MGL) benefited of this programme and graduated successfully. We would like to congratulate all three coaches and particularly Badamkhatan TSOGT who graduated with honours on his project. Yu CHIAO-HSU presented a project on the importance to combine Pilates in the archery training programme. Edward RAMESAR's project was focused on developing youth archery in his home country. Badamkhatan TSOGT's presentation was on youth talent identification with a calendared programme. Archery Coach in Indonesia Indonesia won a silver medal in archery with its women team at the 1988 Olympic Games. Then the level of performance gradually declined for several years. But at the Beijing Olympic Games, we could notice a significant improvement with two qualified Indonesian archers. To improve again the level of the Indonesia Archery Association, the Indonesian Olympic Committee has granted it with an Olympic Solidarity Programme called “Development of the National Sport Structure”. Their plan is to secure the services of an English speaking expert archery coaches for a period of about four months, towards the end of 2010. The duration will depend on the budget (salary, expenses…) The expert will present various coaching development seminars, assess the infrastructure and resources of the various training centres located throughout Indonesia, outline strategies for talent identification, and assist directly with coaching development of the national elite archers preparing for the Asian Games and for Olympic Games qualification competitions. The expected main outcomes are the enhancement in the coaching practices adopted by Indonesian archery coaches, and implementation of the expert’s recommendations in relation to the required infrastructure and talent identification programmes. For further information and application, contact [email protected]. For a formal application the following are required: an application / motivation letter a detailed resume a photocopy of the passport the expected monthly salary and other benefits the name and city of the nearest airport (to the expert’s home)

Application Deadline: 20 June 2010

Coaching Course in Thailand A level 2 coaching course was held on 11-17 May 2010. Mr Pascal COLMAIRE, FITA Development and Education Director, conducted it. This course was funded by the Olympic Solidarity. Forty participants have hardly studied during seven days, including 29 men and 11 women, 32 coaches and 8 archers, 4 physically disabled persons (2 wheelchair and 2 standing-up) and 36 able-bodied, 38 Thais and 2 Pakistanis. The overall organisation of the course was good. If there was a working/studying spirit, it was nevertheless very friendly. Congratulations to the NAAT staff for having being able to organise this coaching course, particularly to its dynamic President Mr Sanguan KOSAVINTA (also FITA Vice-President, 1st AAF Vice-President and Member of the Thai NOC). Christian KAREMBEU at Ivory Coast Leisure and Sports Salon The second edition of Ivory Coast Sports Salon took place from 12-15 May 2010 at the University of Cocody in Abidjan. The Archery Federation of Ivory Coast (FIVTA) attended this event to promote our sport through an exhibition stand where visitors could practice. The Archery Federation of Ivory Coast won for the second time the trophy of best sport as it was the most popular and visited stand among all sports present at this event. “It was amazing to have so many visitors and all are interested in starting archery,” said IVTA President. Among the visitors were Christian KAREMBEU (former international football player, 1998 world champion, and husband of the famous model and Red-Cross ambassador Adriana KAREMBEU) and the Minister of Sports of Ivory Coast Théodore MEL EG. Both enjoyed shooting and congratulated the federation for their excellent work. Mexico: Large National University Championship and Projects University archery is going well in Mexico, since at the last two World University Championships they won the gold medal in men compound with Gerardo ALVARADO, Pedro VEGA and Jesse URESTI (TPE - 2008) and with Gerardo ALVARADO, Eduardo VILLASENOR and Hafid JAIME again (SRB - 2009). On 23 April 2010 in Chihuahua (MEX), 80 students were on the shooting line of the new archery range of the independent university (UACH) that can host up to 24 targets. At this event, Gerardo CARDENAS, Natividad JAIME and Gerardo ALVARADO have conducted a seminar. The following projects were set:

A Pan-American University Championship A set of 3D tournaments in the Northwest A national tournament among the winners of the Grand Slam A national university 3D championship

United Arab Emirates After the 2008 Olympic Games where she shot for Egypt, Soha MOHAMED ABDEL AL moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to join her husband. She is now striving to develop our sport in the capital Abu Dhabi. Lack of access to archery equipment is an unfortunate drawback in the UAE since personal archery equipment is not allowed to enter the country.

Nevertheless with some equipment donated by FITA and some of her own, Soha was able to start an archery programme in the UAE. The Abu Dhabi Ladies Club has been very supportive. At present, Soha has two groups of young women. One group has already completed a beginner level programme. Their enthusiasm is pretty keen to the point that it is difficult to close the sessions because the girls want to continue shooting.

Soha was then able to attract a second group of young Emirati women. A male adult beginner archer blossomed from the point where he is shooting up to seventy metres. This archer and Soha organised social archery events to promote archery amongst the expatriate community. Soha would like to get the support of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council because its support to sports events in the emirate is very important. To expand upon her skill set as an instructor, Soha is currently attending a level II coaching course at the FITA Middle East Archery Centre (MEAC) in Cairo, Egypt.

Traditional Archery in Nepal The Nepal Archery Association (NAA) organised a Basic Archery Training in Jomsom, Mustang on 17-23 April 2010. Mustang, which lies north of Pokhara, is a thriving village where traditional archery is very much alive in the Thakali, Magar and Gurung Communities. The coaching team, led by Mr Kishore Kumar GURUNG, had just completed a 1-week Solidarity Coaching Course conducted by Mr Pascal COLMAIRE, FITA Development and Education Director.

A fair share of opportunity was given to new coaches in training new archers. There were 36 archers including one women; the youngest being 15 years. The training was conducted with four wooden home-made bows and bamboo arrows donated by the NAA. Additional bows, target boss and stands were also donated to the newly founded association by well wishers. The archers were very enthusiastic and the local communities were very supportive of the training. Mr Haridhoj TULACHAN, 1st Vice President of NAA, was present at both the opening and closing ceremonies.
