ArcalsorecognisesthenecessityofhavinganEnvironmentalPolicyinadditiontothe
UNSWEnvironmentalPolicyinordertoprovidedirectleadershipinanareaofmajor
concerntoArcanditsstakeholders.
Arciscommittedtoreachingout,engagingwith,informingandempoweringits
stakeholderstobecomeenvironmentallyawareandactiveintheirlives.
Arcaimsforenvironmentalbestpracticeandtheintegrationofenvironmental
responsibilitythroughoutallaspectsofArc’sactivities.ThisPolicyprovidesaframework
forestablishingenvironmental:

1.1 Background
TheArcEnvironmentPolicyandEnvironmentManagementPlanweredevelopedthrough
collaborationbetweenArcstudentmembersandmanagement.Theoverallgoalwasto
achieveacommonunderstandingabouthowtoworkwithenvironment-relatedquestions
fromashortandlongtermperspective.

ThescopeofthisPolicyembracesallArcactivities,including;

•Retail
•VenuesandEvents
•StudentSupport
•MarketingandMembership.

TheArcEnvironmentPolicyprovidesaframeworkforthedevelopmentofaoneyearEMP
(EnvironmentalManagementPlan)for2010andatwoyearEMPfrom2011onwards.The
EMPwillallowforthecreationofyearlyactionplanswithanannualcycleofreviewand
budgetallocation,whichinturnprovidesthemechanismforimplementationofthepolicy.
TheEMPwill: •Identifyandprioritiseobjectives
•Establishtargets
•Documentspecicactionsandtimeframestoachievetargets
•AllocateresourcesandresponsibilitiestoenabletherealisationoftheEMPthrough
theArcbudgetprocess
•Setperformanceindicatorsandmechanismstomonitorandreporttheprogress.
4. Roles and Responsibilities
TheEnvironmentManagementPlanrequiresanimplementedworkprocessbetweenArc
andtheSRCEnvironmentOcerstosafeguardstudentparticipation.Theprocesswill
supporttheidenticationofobjectives,targets,actionplans,proceduresandevaluationmechanism.
4.1 Board of Arc
•Responsiblefortheultimateapprovaloftheenvironmentpolicy.
•Ensurethatsucientresourcesareallocatedfortheimplementationof
environmentpolicyandEnvironmentalManagementPlan.
4.2 Manager of Corporate Services
•AccountabletotheBoardofArcforachievingthegoalsandobjectivessetoutin
theEnvironmentPolicy,EMPandyearlyActionPlans •AllocateresourcestoenabledepartmentswithinArctoachieverelevantgoalsand
objectivesoftheEMPandyearlyActionPlans
•EnsurethattheEnvironmentCommitteemeetsatleastonceasemester,prepares
anagendaandcirculatesminuteswithinonemonthofthemeeting
•PrepareanddistributetheannualEnvironmentReport.
4.3 Arc Environment Committee
4.3.1 Purpose
•ToprovideleadershipinenvironmentrelatedquestionsatArc
•DevelopandreviewtheEnvironmentPolicy •AnnuallyprepareandreviewtheEnvironmentManagementPlanandrecommendit
totheBoard
•PrepareandreviewyearlyEnvironmentActionPlans

yearlyEnvironmentActionPlanswillbereviewedandevaluatedeveryyearbytheArc
EnvironmentCommittee.
