GENERAL NOTES:1. The general conditions of this Contract for construction, standard form of the American Institute of Architects, current edition,

Prior to beginning work, the GC shall furnish a construction schedule showing the chronological phases of his work and all related work for the completion of the project. The General Contractor shall provide an approved portable sanitary rest room facility prior to commencing work. Seismic: Provide seismic restrains and engineering for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment as required by code.

All work shall be done to the highest standard of craftsmanship by journeymen of the respective trades.

Removals: Carefully remove work to be salvaged or reinstalled and store under cover. All equipment to be removed will be saved for Owner's inspection.

The Contractor shall provide all measures necessary to protect the structure and adjacent structures during construction. Such measures shall include, but are not limited to bracing, shoring for loads, etc... The Contractor shall engage properly

MAXIMUM EFFORT TO OPERATE DOORS SHALL NOT EXCEED 8-1/2 LBS FOR EXTERIOR DOORS AND 5 LBS FOR INTERIOR DOORS. SUCH PULL OR PUSH EFFORT BEING APPLIED AT RIGHT ANGLES TO HINGED DOORS AND AT THE CENTER PLANE OF SLIDING OR FOLDING DOORS. COMPENSATING DEVICES OR AUTOMATIC DOOR OPERATORS MAY BE UTILIZED TO MEET THE ABOVE STANDARDS. WHEN FIRE DOORS ARE REQUIRED, THE MAXIMUM EFFORT TO OPERATE THE DOOR MAY BE INCREASED NOT TO EXCEED 15 LB.

STREET ADDRESS MUST BE PROVIDED ON FRONT OF THE BUILDING. NUMBERS MUST BE VISIBLE FROM THE STREET. MUST BE OF A COLOR WHICH CONTRASTS WITH THE BACKGROUND AND MUST BE AT LEAST 4-INCHES IN HEIGHT AND 2-INCHES IN WIDTH. SEC. 502 AND P.A.C. CHAPTER 12.20

33. SUBMITTALS: All submittals to the Architect shall be made by the GC (not by the subcontractor), with a dated transmittal form at least 10 days before the date the reviewed submittal will be needed back from the Architect.

CLEARLY IDENTIFY ALL RESCUE WINDOWS SERVING EACH SLEEPING AREA ON THE ELEVATION AND FLOOR PLAN DRAWINGS ALONG WITH A COMPLETED WINDOW SCHEDULE AND DOOR SCHEDULES.

4.1 ALL RESCUE WINDOWS SHALL BE HORIZONTAL SLIDERS, SINGLE OR DOUBLE HUNG CASEMENT TYPE WINDOWS. VENT TYPE WINDOWS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR RESCUE WINDOWS.

ALL BUILDING SHALL HAVE APPROVED RADIO COVERAGE FOR EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WITHIN THE BUILDING BASED UPON THE EXISTING COVERAGE LEVEL OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AT THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. MINIMUM SIGNAL STRENGTH OF 95 dBm SHALL BE RECEIVABLE WITHIN THE BUILDING.

PROVIDE APPROVED HARDWIRED SMOKE DETECTORS(S), WITH BATTERY BACKUP, IN EACH SLEEPING ROOM, HALLWAYS ADJACENT TO SLEEPING ROOMS AND AT THE TOP OF STAIRWAYS. ALL SMOKE ALARMS ARE TO BE INTERCONNECTED FOR ALARM SOUNDERS. ALL SOUNDERS ARE TO PRODUCE A CODED TEMPORAL PATTERN. ALL SMOKE ALARMS ARE TO BE UL 217 CALIFORNIA STATE FIRE MARSHAL LISTED. ALL SMOKE ALARMS ARE TO BE MANUFACTURED BY THE SAME COMPANY AND COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER.

I. SMOKE DETECTORS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE INSTALLED WITHIN 3-FEET OF ANY SUPPLY OR RETURN AIR REGISTER.II. RELOCATED ALL SMOKE DETECTORS AWAY FORM OPENINGS INTO BATHROOMS SO AS TO MINIMIZE FALSE ALARMS FROM

STEAM CONTACTING THE SMOKE DETECTORS.III. EACH DWELLING UNIT SMOKE DETECTOR SHALL HAVE FORM-'C' RELAY BASE LISTED FOR RELEASING SERVICE AND ALL

SMOKE DETECTORS SERVICING INDIVIDUAL DWELLING UNITS SHALL BE INTERLOCKED TOGETHER. PMC. 14.25.050.IV. EACH GROUP OF DWELLING UNIT SMOKE DETECTORS SHALL BE MONITORED BY THE BUILDING FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

(INTELLIGENT-ANALOG) AS A SELF-RESTORING SUPERVISORY SIGNAL PER INDIVIDUAL DWELLING UNIT. THIS SIGNAL IS NOT TO INITIATE A GENERAL ALARM THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING.

ALL FIRE DAMPERS SHALL BE CONTROLLED WITH AREA OR SPOT TYPES PHOTOELECTRIC SMOKE DETECTION. ALL CONTROL RELAYS FOR SMOKE FIRE DAMPERS, MAGNETIC DOOR HOLDERS, HVAC UNITS, ETC... SHALL BE CONTROLLED WITH RELAYS LISTED FOR RELEASING. ALL RELAYS SHALL BE LOCATED 3-FEET OF THE INDIVIDUAL CONTROLLERS UNLESS WIRED FAIL SAFE. PAM TYPE RELAYS AREA NOT PERMITTED BECAUSE OF THE HIGH FAILURE RATES AND INABILITY TO CLEARLY IDENTIFY THEIR LOCATIONS FOR INSPECTIONS, SERVICING, AND TESTING. ONLY THE RELAYS CSFM LISTED FOR RELEASING AND ARE OF A DESIGN EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN THE AIR PRODUCTS MR101/C, MR201/C ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR USE WITH THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS.

THE BUILDING DIRECT DIGITAL CONTROL (DDC) SYSTEM IS NOT PERMITTED TO PERFORM THE FUNCTION OF THE BUILDING FIRE ALARM SYSTEM UNLESS LISTED BY US AS (UUKL) FOR SMOKE CONTROL SYSTEM AND UL 864 FIRE CONTROL EQUIPMENT.

SEPARATE SUBMITTAL REQUIRED-UNDERGOUND FIRE SYSTEMS PROVIDE CIVIL DRAWINGS CLEARLY INDICATING THE HYDRANT LOCATIONS, NEW AND EXISTING, SERVING THIS PROJECT. CONTACT THE CITY OF PASADENA WATER DEPARTMENT, (626) 744-4572, TO SCHEDULE A FIRE FLOW TEST(S) FOR THIS PROJECT. PROVIDE A COPY OF THE REPORT TO THE WATER DEPARTMENT INDICATING THE WATER AVAILABLE FORM THE FIRE HYDRANTS SERVING THIS PROJECT.

a. THE MINIMUM FIRE FLOW REQUIRED FOR THIS SHALL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CALIFORNIA FIRE CODE (CFC) AS REQUIRED BY APPENDIX iii-a. A MAXIMUM OF 50% REDUCTION IN FIRE FLOW IS ALLOWED WHEN AN AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS ENGINEERED, APPROVED, AND INSTALLED PER NFPA 13 THROUGHOUT ALL AREAS OF THE STRUCTURES.

b. THE QUANTITIES AND LOCATIONS OF FIRE HYDRANTS REQUIRED FOR THIS SHALL BE ENGINEERED AS REQUIRED BY CFC, APPENDIX III-b, ARTICLE 9, AND PASADENA FIRE DEPARTMENTS FIRE GROUND OPERATIONAL NEEDS IN ACCORDANCE WITH NATIONAL RECOGNIZED GOOD ENGINEERING PRACTICES.

THE CITY OF PASADENA FIRE DEPARTMENT SHALL APPROVE ALL-WEATHER FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCESS ROADS. ALL ACCESS ROADS SHALL BE IN PLACE PRIOR TO ANY COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS PLACED ON SITE. ALL ACCESS ROADS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 20 FEET WIDE WITH NO PARKING, HAVE AN UNOBSTRUCTED CLEAR HEIGHT OF 13'-6" MAINTAINED, AND ENGINEERED TO SUPPORT 35,000 GVW. (CONTACT PUBLIC WORKS, (626) 744-4720, THEIR REQUIREMENTS MAY BE MORE RESTRICTIVE). ALL ACCESS GATES SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH KNOX LOCK SYSTEMS APPROVED BY THE PASADENA FIRE DEPARTMENT (KNOX LOCK APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED AT FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS LOCATED AT 199 S. LOS ROBLES AVE., SUITE 550). ALL ACCESS ROADS SHALL BE MAINTAINED DRIVE ABLE IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS AND CLEAR OF OBSTRUCTIONS, CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS, AND VEHICLES AT ALL TIMES. CFC, ART. 9

a. FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCESS REQUIREMENTS - 14.25.020 DEFINITIONS.

b. "APPROVED TURNAROUND" MEANS AN AREA LOCATED AT THE DEAD-END POINT OF ANY FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY WHICH SHALL ENABLE FIRE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES TO TURN AROUND. SAID TURNAROUND SHALL MEET ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 14.25.020(F) AND SHALL CONSIST EITHER OF A HAMMERHEAD DESIGN WITH TWO LEGS WHICH ARE NO LESS TAN 30 FEET IN LENGTH AS MEASURED FROM THE CURB LINE AXIS OF THE EMERGENCY FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY, OR A CIRCULAR TURNAROUND WITH A RADIUM OF NOT LESS THAN 40 FEET OR OTHER CONFIGURATION AS APPROVED BY THE FIRE CHIEF.

c. "FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY" MEANS A PAVED HARD - SURFACE ALL - WEATHER ROADWAY OF NOT LESS THAN 20 FEET IN CLEAR WIDTH WITH A MAXIMUM VERTICAL CLEARANCE OF NOT LESS THAN 13 FEET, 6 INCHES, AND WHICH SATISFIES EACH OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

c.1 THE PAVED HARD-SURFACE OF THE ROADWAY SHALL BE CAPABLE OF SIMULTANEOUSLY SUPPORTING NOT LESS THAN THREE VEHICLES WEIGHTING 3,500 POUNDS EACH WITHOUT CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE PAVED HARD - SURFACE OR ANY SUBSTRUCTURE LOCATED BENEATH SAID ROADWAY; AND

c.2 NO SLOPE OF SAID ROADWAY SHALL EXCEED A GRADE OF 12 PERCENT AT ANY POINT: AND

c.3 ANY SAID ROADWAY WHICH EXTENDS MORE THAN 150 FEET FROM A PUBLIC STREET AND WHICH DOES NOT CONTINUE THROUGH TO ANOTHER PUBLIC STREET SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH AN APPROVED TURNAROUND AT THE DEAD - END POINT. THE DISTANCED OF ANY SAID ROADWAY SHALL BE MEASURED AS TRAVEL DISTANCE ALONG THE CENTER OF THE ROADWAY STARTING AT THE CURB LINE OF THE PUBLIC STREET TO WHICH IT WAS ACCESS; AND

c.4 NO SUCH ROADWAY SHALL BE CONTAINED WITHIN, OR ENCLOSED IN ANY BUILDING; AND

c.5 NO SUCH ROADWAY SHALL BE ADJACENT TO ANY WALL FENCE OR LANDSCAPING WHICH MAY IMPAIR CLEAR AND READY FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCESS TO THE BUILDING; AND

c.6 NO SUCH ROADWAY SHALL HAVE AN ELEVATION DIFFERENTIAL IN EXCESS OF THREE FEET BETWEEN THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE ROADWAY AND THE LOWEST LEVEL OF THE ADJACENT BUILDING; AND

c.7 FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY SIGNS APPROVED BY THE FIRE CHIEF SHALL BE POSTED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 14.25.130.

c.8 FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY DESIGNATION - 14.25.130. THE FIRE CHIEF IS AUTHORIZED TO REQUIRE AND DESIGNATE FIRE ACCESS ROADWAYS THAT SHALL PROVIDE CLEAR AND UNOBSTRUCTED EMERGENCY VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT ACCESS TO ANY BUILDING. NO STREET, ACCESS ROAD, ALLEY, OR DRIVEWAY, WHETHER PRIVATE OR PUBLIC, SHALL BE DESIGNATED A FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY UNLESS THE FIRE CHIEF FINDS THAT PUBLIC SAFETY CONTROL REQUIRES USE OF THE STREET, ACCESS ROAD, ALLEY, OR DRIVEWAY AS A FIRE ACCESS ROADWAY.
