    PICKTHAL: He is Allah, than Whom there is no other Allah, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One,Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb. Glorified be

    Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him).

    SHAKIR:He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, theGranter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness

    Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him).

    YUSUFALI: He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him

    belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises

    and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

    PICKTHAL: He is Allah, the Creator, the Shaper out of naught, the Fashioner. His are the most

    beautiful names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifieth Him, and He is the Mighty, the

    Wise.

    SHAKIR:He is Allah the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner; His are the most excellent names;whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His glory; and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

    YUSUFALI: The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the

    men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers.

    "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His messengers." And they say:

    "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all

    journeys."

    PICKTHAL: The messenger believeth in that which hath been revealed unto him from his Lord

    and (so do) believers. Each one believeth in Allah and His angels and His scriptures and His

    messengers - We make no distinction between any of His messengers - and they say: We hear, andwe obey. (Grant us) Thy forgiveness, our Lord. Unto Thee is the journeying.

    YUSUFALI: Say: "O men! I am sent unto you all, as the Messenger of Allah, to Whom belongeththe dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no god but He: it is He That giveth both life and

    death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, who believeth in Allah and

    His words: follow him that (so) ye may be guided."

    PICKTHAL: Say (O Muhammad): O mankind! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah to you all - (themessenger of) Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. There is no

    Allah save Him. He quickeneth and He giveth death. So believe in Allah and His messenger, the

    Prophet who can neither read nor write, who believeth in Allah and in His Words, and follow himthat haply ye may be led aright.

    SHAKIR: Say: O people! surely I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, of Him Whose is the

    kingdom of the heavens and the earth there is no god but He; He brings to life and causes to dietherefore believe in Allah and His messenger, the Ummi Prophet who believes in Allah and His

    words, and follow him so that you may walk in the right way.

    YUSUFALI: Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah,

    and the Seal of the Prophets: and Allah has full knowledge of all things.

    PICKTHAL: Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the messenger of

    Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah is ever Aware of all things.

    SHAKIR: Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and

    the Last of the prophets; and Allah is cognizant of all things.

    be that my Lord guideth me unto a nearer way of truth than this.

    SHAKIR: Unless Allah pleases; and remember your Lord when you forget and say: Maybe myLord will guide me to a nearer course to the right than this

    YUSUFALI:But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds.PICKTHAL: And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.

    YUSUFALI: Those who are wretched shall be in the Fire: There will be for them therein (nothingbut) the heaving of sighs and sobs:

    PICKTHAL: As for those who will be wretched (on that day) they will be in the Fire; sighing and

    wailing will be their portion therein,

    SHAKIR: So as to those who are unhappy, they shall be in the fire; for them shall be sighing and

    groaning in it:

    YUSUFALI: They will dwell therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth endure, exceptas thy Lord willeth: for thy Lord is the (sure) accomplisher of what He planneth.

    PICKTHAL: Abiding there so long as the heavens and the earth endure save for that which thyLord willeth. Lo! thy Lord is Doer of what He will.

    SHAKIR: Abiding therein so long as the heavens and the earth endure, except as your Lord please;

    surely your Lord is the mighty doer of what He intends.

    YUSUFALI: And those who are blessed shall be in the Garden: They will dwell therein for all the

    time that the heavens and the earth endure, except as thy Lord willeth: a gift without break.

    PICKTHAL: And as for those who will be glad (that day) they will be in the Garden, abiding there

    so long as the heavens and the earth endure save for that which thy Lord willeth: a gift unfailing.

    SHAKIR:And as to those who are made happy, they shall be in the garden, abiding in it as long asthe heavens and the earth endure, except as your Lord please; a gift which shall never be cut off.

    YUSUFALI: The Trumpet will (just) be sounded, when all that are in the heavens and on earth will

    swoon, except such as it will please Allah (to exempt). Then will a second one be sounded, when,

    behold, they will be standing and looking on!

    PICKTHAL: And the trumpet is blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are in the earth

    swoon away, save him whom Allah willeth. Then it is blown a second time, and behold themstanding waiting!

    SHAKIR:And the trumpet shall be blown, so all those that are in the heavens and all those that arein the earth shall swoon, except such as Allah please; then it shall be blown again, then lo! they

    shall stand up awaiting.

    YUSUFALI: And the Earth will shine with the Glory of its Lord: the Record (of Deeds) will be

    placed (open); the prophets and the witnesses will be brought forward and a just decisionpronounced between them; and they will not be wronged (in the least).

    PICKTHAL: And the earth shineth with the light of her Lord, and the Book is set up, and the

    prophets and the witnesses are brought, and it is judged between them with truth, and they are not

    wronged.

    SHAKIR:And the earth shall beam with the light of its Lord, and the Book shall be laid down, andthe prophets and the witnesses shall be brought up, and judgment shall be given between them with

    justice, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.

    YUSUFALI: And to every soul will be paid in full (the fruit) of its Deeds; and (Allah) knoweth

    best all that they do.

    PICKTHAL: And each soul is paid in full for what it did. And He is Best Aware of what they do.

    SHAKIR: And every soul shall be paid back fully what it has done, and He knows best what they

    do.

    YUSUFALI: O man! What has seduced thee from thy Lord Most Beneficent?-

    PICKTHAL: O man! What hath made thee careless concerning thy Lord, the Bountiful,SHAKIR: O man ! what has beguiled you from your Lord, the Gracious one,

    YUSUFALI: Him Who created thee. Fashioned thee in due proportion, and gave thee a just bias;

    PICKTHAL: Who created thee, then fashioned, then proportioned thee?

    SHAKIR: Who created you, then made you complete, then made you symmetrical?

    YUSUFALI: In whatever Form He wills, does He put thee together.

    PICKTHAL: Into whatsoever form He will, He casteth thee.

    SHAKIR: Into whatever form He pleased He constituted you

    021.006YUSUFALI: (As to those) before them, not one of the populations which We destroyed believed:

    will these believe?

    PICKTHAL: Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent

    them portents): would they then believe?

    SHAKIR: There did not believe before them any town which We destroyed, will they thenbelieve?

    YUSUFALI: Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted

    inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.

    PICKTHAL: And We sent not (as Our messengers) before thee other than men, whom We

    inspired. Ask the followers of the Reminder if ye know not?

    SHAKIR:And We did not send before you any but men to whom We sent revelation, so ask thefollowers of the reminder if you do not

    YUSUFALI: Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death.

    PICKTHAL: We gave them not bodies that would not eat food, nor were they immortals.

    SHAKIR: And We did not make them bodies not eating the food, and they were not to abide

    (forever).

    022.005

    YUSUFALI: O mankind! if ye have a doubt about the Resurrection, (consider) that We created youout of dust, then out of sperm, then out of a leech-like clot, then out of a morsel of flesh, partly

    formed and partly unformed, in order that We may manifest (our power) to you; and We cause

    whom We will to rest in the wombs for an appointed term, then do We bring you out as babes, then(foster you) that ye may reach your age of full strength; and some of you are called to die, and some

    are sent back to the feeblest old age, so that they know nothing after having known (much), and

    (further), thou seest the earth barren and lifeless, but when We pour down rain on it, it is stirred (to

    life), it swells, and it puts forth every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs).

    PICKTHAL: O mankind! if ye are in doubt concerning the Resurrection, then lo! We have created

    you from dust, then from a drop of seed, then from a clot, then from a little lump of flesh shapely

    and shapeless, that We may make (it) clear for you. And We cause what We will to remain in thewombs for an appointed time, and afterward We bring you forth as infants, then (give you growth)

    that ye attain your full strength. And among you there is he who dieth (young), and among you

    there is he who is brought back to the most abject time of life, so that, after knowledge, he knowethnaught. And thou (Muhammad) seest the earth barren, but when We send down water thereon, itdoth thrill and swell and put forth every lovely kind (of growth).

    SHAKIR: O people! if you are in doubt about the raising, then surely We created you from dust,

    then from a small seed, then from a clot, then from a lump of flesh, complete in make andincomplete, that We may make clear to you; and We cause what We please to stay in the wombs till

    an appointed time, then We bring you forth as babies, then that you may attain your maturity; and

    of you is he who is caused to die, and of you is he who is brought back to the worst part of life, so

    that after having knowledge he does not know anything; and you see the earth sterile land, but whenWe send down on it the water, it stirs and swells and brings forth of every kind a beautiful herbage.

    YUSUFALI: I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.

    PICKTHAL: I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.

    SHAKIR: And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me.

    YUSUFALI: He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He

    is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving;-

    PICKTHAL: Who hath created life and death that He may try you which of you is best in conduct;

    and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving,

    SHAKIR: Who created death and life that He may try you-- which of you is best in deeds; and He

    is the Mighty, the Forgiving,

    YUSUFALI: By (the Token of) Time (through the ages),

    PICKTHAL: By the declining day,

    SHAKIR: I swear by the time,103.002

    YUSUFALI: Verily Man is in loss,

    PICKTHAL:

    Lo! man is a state of loss,SHAKIR: Most surely man is in loss,103.003

    YUSUFALI: Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual

    teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.

    PICKTHAL: Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth andexhort one another to endurance.

    SHAKIR: Except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on each other truth, and enjoin on

    each other patience.

    YUSUFALI: By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it;

    PICKTHAL: And a soul and Him Who perfected it

    SHAKIR: And the soul and Him Who made it perfect

    8 YUSUFALI: And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;-

    PICKTHAL: And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.SHAKIR: Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it;091.009

    YUSUFALI: Truly he succeeds that purifies it,

    PICKTHAL: He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,

    SHAKIR: He will indeed be successful who purifies it,

    YUSUFALI: And he fails that corrupts it!

    PICKTHAL: And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.

    SHAKIR: And he will indeed fail who corrupts it.

    YUSUFALI: Call them by (the names of) their fathers: that is juster in the sight of Allah. But if ye

    know not their father's (names, call them) your Brothers in faith, or your maulas. But there is no

    blame on you if ye make a mistake therein: (what counts is) the intention of your hearts: and Allahis Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

    PICKTHAL: Proclaim their real parentage. That will be more equitable in the sight of Allah. And

    if ye know not their fathers, then (they are) your brethren in the faith, and your clients. And there is

    no sin for you in the mistakes that ye make unintentionally, but what your hearts purpose (that willbe a sin for you). Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.

    SHAKIR: Assert their relationship to their fathers; this is more equitable with Allah; but if you do

    not know their fathers, then they are your brethren in faith and your friends; and there is no blameon you concerning that in which you made a mistake, but (concerning) that which your hearts do

    purposely (blame may rest on you), and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

    YUSUFALI: It is not their meat nor their blood, that reaches Allah: it is your piety that reaches

    Him:

    PICKTHAL: Their flesh and their food reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reacheth Him.

    SHAKIR: There does not reach Allah their flesh nor their blood, but to Him is acceptable theguarding (against evil) on your part;

    YUSUFALI: That man can have nothing but what he strives for;

    PICKTHAL: And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort,

    SHAKIR: And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for-

    PICKTHAL: And that his effort will be seen.

    YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! Fear Allah and be with those who are true (in word and deed).PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful.

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah and be with the true ones.

    YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak

    aloud to him in talk, as ye may speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds become vain and ye

    perceive not.

    PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout

    when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye

    perceive not.

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, and do notspeak loud to him as you speak loud to one another, lest your deeds became null while you do not

    perceive.

    YUSUFALI: Those that lower their voices in the presence of Allah's Messenger,- their hearts has

    Allah tested for piety: for them is Forgiveness and a great Reward.

    PICKTHAL: Lo! they who subdue their voices in the presence of the messenger of Allah, those

    are they whose hearts Allah hath proven unto righteousness. Theirs will be forgiveness and

    immense reward.

    SHAKIR: Surely those who lower their voices before Allah's Messenger are they whose hearts

    Allah has proved for guarding (against evil); they shall have forgiveness and a great reward

    YUSUFALI: Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents.Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor

    repel them, but address them in terms of honour.

    PICKTHAL: Thy Lord hath decreed, that ye worship none save Him, and (that ye show) kindness

    to parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age with thee, say not "Fie" unto them nor

    repulse them, but speak unto them a gracious word.

    SHAKIR: And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness toyour parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh"

    nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word.

    YUSUFALI: "Go, both of you, to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed all bounds;

    PICKTHAL: Go, both of you, unto Pharaoh. Lo! he hath transgressed (the bounds).

    SHAKIR: Go both to Firon, surely he has become inordinate;

    YUSUFALI: "But speak to him mildly; perchance he may take warning or fear (Allah)."PICKTHAL: And speak unto him a gentle word, that peradventure he may heed or fear.

    SHAKIR: Then speak to him a gentle word haply he may mind or fear.

    PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Why say ye that which ye do not?

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! why do you say that which you do not do?

    YUSUFALI: Grievously odious is it in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not.

    PICKTHAL: It is most hateful in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not.

    SHAKIR: It is most hateful to Allah that you should say that which you do not do

    YUSUFALI: Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practise it) yourselves, and

    yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand?

    PICKTHAL: Enjoin ye righteousness upon mankind while ye yourselves forget (to practise it)?And ye are readers of the Scripture! Have ye then no sense?

    SHAKIR: What! do you enjoin men to be good and neglect your own souls while you read the

    Book; have you then no sense?

    YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations.

    PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Fulfil your indentures.

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! fulfill the obligations.

    YUSUFALI: and fulfil (every) engagement, for (every) engagement will be enquired into (on theDay of Reckoning).

    PICKTHAL: and keep the covenant. Lo! of the covenant it will be asked.SHAKIR: and fulfill the promise; surely (every) promise shall be questioned about.

    YUSUFALI: Allah doth command you to render back your Trusts to those to whom they are due;

    And when ye judge between man and man, that ye judge with justice: Verily how excellent is theteaching which He giveth you! For Allah is He Who heareth and seeth all things.

    PICKTHAL: Lo! Allah commandeth you that ye restore deposits to their owners, and, if ye judge

    between mankind, that ye judge justly. Lo! comely is this which Allah admonisheth you. Lo! Allahis ever Hearer, Seer.

    SHAKIR: Surely Allah commands you to make over trusts to their owners and that when you

    judge between people you judge with justice; surely Allah admonishes you with what is excellent;

    surely Allah is Seeing, Hearing

    YUSUFALI: Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants;

    PICKTHAL: And who are shepherds of their pledge and their covenant,SHAKIR: And those who are keepers of their trusts and their covenant,

    YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against

    yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best

    protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or

    decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

    PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Be ye staunch in justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be

    against yourselves or (your) parents or (your) kindred, whether (the case be of) a rich man or a poor

    man, for Allah is nearer unto both (them ye are). So follow not passion lest ye lapse (from truth)

    and if ye lapse or fall away, then lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do.

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! be maintainers of justice, bearers of witness of Allah's sake, thoughit may be against your own selves or (your) parents or near relatives; if he be rich or poor, Allah is

    nearer to them both in compassion; therefore do not follow (your) low desires, lest you deviate; andif you swerve or turn aside, then surely Allah is aware of what you do.

    YUSUFALI: O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not

    the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is nextto piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

    PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Be steadfast witnesses for Allah in equity, and let not hatred of

    any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty. Observe your

    duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! Be upright for Allah, bearers of witness with justice, and let not

    hatred of a people incite you not to act equitably; act equitably, that is nearer to piety, and he

    careful of (your duty to) Allah; surely Allah is Aware of what you do.

    049.009

    YUSUFALI: If two parties among the Believers fall into a quarrel, make ye peace between them:

    but if one of them transgresses beyond bounds against the other, then fight ye (all) against the one

    that transgresses until it complies with the command of Allah; but if it complies, then make peacebetween them with justice, and be fair: for Allah loves those who are fair (and just).

    PICKTHAL: And if two parties of believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them. And

    if one party of them doeth wrong to the other, fight ye that which doeth wrong till it return unto theordinance of Allah; then, if it return, make peace between them justly, and act equitably. Lo! Allah

    loveth the equitable.

    SHAKIR: And if two parties of the believers quarrel, make peace between them; but if one of themacts wrongfully towards the other, fight that which acts wrongfully until it returns to Allah's

    command; then if it returns, make peace between them with justice and act equitably; surely Allah

    loves those who act equitably.

    YUSUFALI: When ye pass (Congregational) prayers, celebrate Allah's praises, standing,

    sitting down, or lying down on your sides; but when ye are free from danger, set up Regular

    Prayers: For such prayers are enjoined on believers at stated times.

    PICKTHAL: When ye have performed the act of worship, remember Allah, standing,sitting and reclining. And when ye are in safety, observe proper worship. Worship at fixed

    times hath been enjoined on the believers.SHAKIR: Then when you have finished the prayer, remember Allah standing and sittingand reclining; but when you are secure (from danger) keep up prayer; surely prayer is a

    timed ordinance for the believers.

    YUSUFALI: "And ye dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged their own souls; ye were

    clearly shown how We dealt with them; and We put forth (many) parables in your behoof!"

    PICKTHAL: And (have ye not) dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves

    (of old) and (hath it not) become plain to you how We dealt with them and made examplesfor you?

    SHAKIR: And you dwell in the abodes of those who were unjust to themselves, and it isclear to you how We dealt with them and We have made (them) examples to you.

    YUSUFALI: Those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds, and, when they are angry

    even then forgive;

    PICKTHAL: And those who shun the worst of sins and indecencies and, when they are wroth,

    forgive,

    SHAKIR: And those who. shun the great sins and indecencies, and whenever they are angry they

    forgive.

    YUSUFALI: Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden whose width is

    that (of the whole) of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous,-

    PICKTHAL: And vie one with another for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a paradise as wide

    as are the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who ward off (evil);

    SHAKIR: And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord; and a Garden, the extensiveness of which is

    (as) the heavens and the earth, it is prepared for those who guard (against evil).

    YUSUFALI: Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger,and pardon (all) men;- for Allah loves those who do good;-

    PICKTHAL: Those who spend (of that which Allah hath given them) in ease and in adversity,

    those who control their wrath and are forgiving toward mankind; Allah loveth the good;

    SHAKIR: Those who spend (benevolently) in ease as well as in straitness, and those who restrain

    (their) anger and pardon men; and Allah loves the doers of good (to others).

    YUSUFALI: Then after them sent We Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our Signs.

    But they were arrogant: they were a people in sin.

    PICKTHAL: Then, after them, We sent Moses and Aaron unto Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our

    revelations, but they were arrogant and were a guilty folk.

    SHAKIR: Then did We send up after them Musa and Haroun to Firon and his chiefs with Oursigns, but they showed pride and they were a guilty people.

    YUSUFALI: Nor walk on the earth with insolence: for thou canst not rend the earth asunder, nor

    reach the mountains in height.

    PICKTHAL: And walk not in the earth exultant. Lo! thou canst not rend the earth, nor canst thou

    stretch to the height of the hills.SHAKIR: And do not go about in the land exultingly, for you cannot cut through the earth nor

    reach the mountains in height.

    PICKTHAL: Or are they jealous of mankind because of that which Allah of His bounty hath

    SHAKIR: Or do they envy the people for what Allah has given them of His grace?

    YUSUFALI: Who doth greater wrong than one who invents falsehood against Allah, even as he isbeing invited to Islam? And Allah guides not those who do wrong.

    PICKTHAL: And who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie against Allah when he is

    summoned unto Al-Islam? And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.

    SHAKIR: And who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah and he is invited toIslam, and Allah does not guide the unjust people.

    YUSUFALI: Those who witness no falsehood, and, if they pass by futility, they pass by it with

    honourable (avoidance);

    PICKTHAL: And those who will not witness vanity, but when they pass near senseless play, passby with dignity.

    SHAKIR: And they who do not bear witness to what is false, and when they pass by what is vain,

    they pass by nobly.

    YUSUFALI: O ye that believe! betray not the trust of Allah and the Messenger, nor misappropriate

    knowingly things entrusted to you.

    PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! Betray not Allah and His messenger, nor knowingly betray your

    trusts.

    SHAKIR: O you who believe! be not unfaithful to Allah and the Messenger, nor be unfaithful to

    your trusts while you know.

    003.161

    YUSUFALI: No prophet could (ever) be false to his trust. If any person is so false, He shall, on the

    Day of Judgment, restore what he misappropriated; then shall every soul receive its due,- whateverit earned,- and none shall be dealt with unjustly.

    PICKTHAL: It is not for any prophet to embezzle. Whoso embezzleth will bring what he

    embezzled with him on the Day of Resurrection. Then every soul will be paid in full what it hathearned; and they will not be wronged.

    SHAKIR: And it is not attributable to a prophet that he should act unfaithfully; and he who acts

    unfaithfully shall bring that in respect of which he has acted unfaithfully on the day of resurrection;

    then shall every soul be paid back fully what it has earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.

    YUSUFALI: It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them Wert thou severeor harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (Their faults), and

    ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou

    hast Taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).PICKTHAL: It was by the mercy of Allah that thou wast lenient with them (O Muhammad), for ifthou hadst been stern and fierce of heart they would have dispersed from round about thee. So

    pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult with them upon the conduct of affairs. And

    when thou art resolved, then put thy trust in Allah. Lo! Allah loveth those who put their trust (inHim).

    SHAKIR: Thus it is due to mercy from Allah that you deal with them gently, and had you been

    rough, hard hearted, they would certainly have dispersed from around you; pardon them thereforeand ask pardon for them, and take counsel with them in the affair; so when you have decided, then

    place your trust in Allah; surely Allah loves those who trust.

    YUSUFALI: Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; But turn away from the ignorant.

    PICKTHAL: Keep to forgiveness (O Muhammad), and enjoin kindness, and turn away from the

    ignorant.

    SHAKIR: Take to forgiveness and enjoin good and turn aside from the ignorant.

    YUSUFALI: Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever

    rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks.And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

    PICKTHAL: There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from

    error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold whichwill never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower.

    SHAKIR: There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has become clearly distinct from

    error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in the Shaitan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on

    the firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

    006.108

    YUSUFALI: Revile not ye those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest they out of spite revile

    Allah in their ignorance. Thus have We made alluring to each people its own doings. In the end willthey return to their Lord, and We shall then tell them the truth of all that they did.

    PICKTHAL: Revile not those unto whom they pray beside Allah lest they wrongfully revile Allah

    through ignorance. Thus unto every nation have We made their deed seem fair. Then unto theirLord is their return, and He will tell them what they used to do.

    SHAKIR: And do not abuse those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest exceeding the limits

    they should abuse Allah out of ignorance. Thus have We made fair seeming to every people their

    deeds; then to their Lord shall be their return, so He will inform them of what they did.
