Someofthearchbishop'sstatementswere"absolutelywrong,"Benaventewrote.

AgroupofGuamfinancialexpertsalsoheldapressconferencethismorning,sayingthearchbishop'sstatementsweren'tfactual.

OnApuron'spublicstatementthattheCatholicCemeteriesofGuamusedlandthatwasnotunderitsname,butwasinsteadundertheArchdioceseofAgana,ascollateralforaloan,Benaventewrote:

"RegardingtherecordingofthelandattheCatholicCemeteriesasanasset,theDeloitte&Touche(letter)acknowledgesthiscorrectionintheirletterofJan.8,2014.ItshouldbenotedthatbeforetheDeloitteaudit,theonlypersonswhocouldhavehaveknownthatthelandwasalsorecordedontheArchdiocesebookswasyou,asarchbishop,andDeaconDominicKim.Additionally,yourletterisabsolutelywronginstatingthatthepropertywasusedtosecurealoan....ThisclarificationwaspointedouttoDeaconKimin2012,andacopyofthatletterwasalsogiventoyou."

*Onthearchbishop'spublicstatementthattherecordingofbuildingassetswasduplicatedandconstructionprojectdocumentscouldn'tbefound,Benaventewrote:

"TheinitialfinancialstatementoftheCatholicCemeteriesdidincludeaduplicationofbuildingassetsbutthisitemwascorrectedveryearlyoninthereviewprocess.EventheDeloitte&ToucheletterdatedJan.8,2014acknowledgesthiscorrection.YourletterofJuly31,2014tothemediainaccuratelystatesthataftersevenmonthstheconstructiondocumentsfor(CatholicCemeteriesprojects)haveyettobeproduced.Copiesoftheactualconstructiondocumentsweresubmittedtoyourfinanceofficer,DominicKim,whorequestedthem."

"Insummary,outofthefiveallegationscontainedinyourlettertothemediaofJuly31,2014,twohadalreadybeenresolvedpriortotheJan.8,2014letterfromDeloittetoyou,andtwootherswerecorrectedandsubmittedtoDeaconKimwiththeMay21,2014transmittal,"

"ThefinalitemisbeingworkedonandcouldhavebeencompletedbeforethedeadlineofAug.15youhadsetforusinyourJune26letter,"Benaventewrote."However,becausetherecordswereconfiscatedbythenewadministration,weareunabletocompletetheworkbegun."

ApuronfiredBenaventefrombeingtherectoroftheDolceNombredeMariaCathedralBasilicaandastheCatholicCemeteriesdirectormorethanaweekago,statingthattheCathedralBasilicaandtheCatholicCemeterieshadbeenpoorlymanaged.

Financialexpertswhowereprivytothearchdiocesanfinancesheldtoday'spressconferenceonthefrontstepsoftheDulceNombreDeMariaCathedralBasilicatostatethatthearchbishop'spublicstatementsdidn'tmatchwithfacts.
