Rush Allen Biography:Rush Allen is a New Mexico based artist who has been creating a variety of art forms throughout his life including painting,

drawing, graphic design, and printmaking. He has a BFA from New Mexico State University and has spent time in Florence,

Italy and Paris, France to study painting and drawing. The landscape paintings he creates derive from the environment

around him and are reinterpreted to invoke a sense of wonder. His work has been shown in California, New Mexico, Italy,

and France; as well as receiving the Museum Award from the Musée de Peinture de Saint-Frajou, France for the Salon

International Art Resilience. He continues to paint the world around him in both plein air, and in the studio based on the

different environments he finds around the world.

Fay Biegun Biography:Fay Biegun has a BFA degree from Pratt Institute and a degree from Parsons School of Design. She currently resides

and works on Long Island, New York. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists and is represented

by online galleries such as FineArtAmerica, Saatchi and Artslant. Her work is based on the idea that there are similar

underlying messages in all human belief systems. They are manifested by the elemental and recurring myths and

archetypes, universal symbols and signs. In her work are such motifs as primal sound, the heroic journey, the promised

land, the Diaspora. She conjures up human experiences and stories from myths that illustrate conditions of dissonance

and calm, peace and conflict, displacement and loss, isolation and celebration. She begins her work with a pencil sketch.

She then alters it on the computer with Adobe Photoshop changing placement and color, often adding collage elements.

Next, she scales up the composition onto the canvas. Changes are often made as she proceeds. She paints with oil but

also experiments with underlayers of acrylic or overlayers of pencil and pastel, or mixes the paint with pumice or sand for

texture. The piece is complete only when she feels that it has taken on a life of its own.

Louis Boyang Biography:Louis Boyang is a 13-year-old artist from Michigan. He and his twin brother Max Boyang are known as the Boyang Twins in

the art community. Louis has always loved drawing flowers and trees since he was little. However, from a family of three

generations of scientists and engineers, his interest in art was never taken seriously. In March, 2015, Louis and Max were

discovered by artist Vivian Dwyer at the age of 9. As Mrs. Dwyer said, she got chills when she saw the boys’ drawing, and

she had never seen any 9-year-old that drew like them. Louis loves nature. He loves doing watercolor flower painting, pen

and ink, or graphite flower drawing. Louis has amazing memory when comes to flowers. A lot of his work is completely out

of his own imagination. He will look at the flowers either in person or online, and then start his own interpretation. He loves

changing things as he goes, even when he is working in front of real flowers. Louis’s artwork has been exhibited in fine art

galleries across the country. His work was also displayed on billboards. In October 2016, Louis was the Juror Award winner

in Ann Arbor Art Center’s “94th All media exhibition”. His “Mother’s Day” was among 38 artists’ artworks selected from

more than 600 submissions. Louis was the only artist under age of eighteen. Louis and his twin brother have had four solo

exhibitions since they started doing art three years ago. They taught both adult and child art classes in Seattle, WA and

Lansing, MI. The boys have donated thousands of dollars from the sales of their artwork to charities in the past two years.

The twins’ story was featured in The Lansing State Journal, Seattle King 5, WLNS-TV, Greater Lansing Business Monthly,

and HOMTV, Swedish Expressen. In May 2017, four times Emmy Award winner Kirk Montgomery did a special report “Twin

Artists Turning Heads” on the boys on WILX-10.

Curator Review: Gray Day Made Bright IIThis striking work by artist Louis Boyang vibrates with unity and singularity. From the beautiful detail, to the bold contrasts

of color, Boyang invites the viewer into the scene. His dramatic use of light and shadow gives depth and an evocative

tonality to the work. A delicate balance between each of the floral elements has most certainly been gracefully achieved

Rachelle Chuang Biography:Rachelle W. Chuang MA MFA lives a creative life as an artist and educator. She has taught in the Art and Graphic Design

Departments at seven colleges in Southern California over the past nine years as both a full time and adjunct professor

(Chapman, IVC, Biola, LCAD, Saddleback, Concordia and OCC). Prior to her mixed media work she created handmade paper

sculptures and letterpress prints which have been exhibited in group shows and published in several books. Most of all,

she is committed to beauty, faith, purpose, creativity and authentic human flourishing through her life and teaching.

COLORBLISS.STUDIO My work is the result of experimentation and chance using four things that I love: paper, print, collage

and color. Full sheets of heavyweight paper are uniquely printed from antique wood type, cut into strips and collaged on

wood panels using archival PVA glue. Thick layers of epoxy resin are used to coat each work, resulting in brilliant, lively

colors that show natural mark-making from relief printing as well as overprinted color shapes. I consider this series a

demonstration of creative color play with the “work” being the multiple processes used in its creation. I hope that every

viewer receives a color benediction or blessing as an enjoyable, visually-saturated experience.

INSPIRATION & PROCESS This current work initially started from demonstrations of ink overlapping to students as

letterpress prints. I love introducing digital students to the love of paper, printing and ink. Students arrange antique wood

type into various compositions and print a small edition. The resulting prints showcase experimental typography using

antique wood type and the found shapes that are created through overprinting and overlapping. The series also functions

as educational samples about the qualities of ink and paper and color theory such as CMYK, color relationships such as

analogous and complementary, and how spot color works. The prints weren’t originally meant to be finished or resolved

compositions but evidence of the process. However, I found these prints interesting enough to submit them and they have

been shown in exhibitions and published in books. Not being afraid of maximum color impact, I decided to find a way to

intensify the work by cutting the prints into strips and collage them on wood panels. I often think of classic color theories

from Bauhaus teachers such as Josef Albers and Johannes Itten. Itten’s color theories include his famous seven color

contrasts such as simultaneous contrast and contrast of hue. I place each printed strip based on simple formal design

decisions, color approaches and how the rhythm of the shapes play off each other to create a vibrant whole.

Andrea Cook Biography:Artist Andrea Cook creates art that resonates on many levels. She plays with texture, pattern and repetition to create

unity in each unique piece. Andrea employs her imagination and inner light to create a connection with her viewer. Born

and raised in Dallas, TX, Andrea discovered her artistic desires early on and received a lot of encouragement to follow her

dreams. “My first childhood classes were drawing, watercolor, and ceramics. I continued art through high school, where I

enjoyed metals, ceramics, and printmaking. The high school that I attended had many art options, and I have always loved

exploring new media.” “My desire was to make one-of-a-kind, original art,” explains Andrea. “I went on to attend UT El

Paso, where I fell in love with sculpture. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture and Painting.” After college,

Andrea continued to explore different artistic endeavors. “I was working on large scale, soft sculpture installation,” she

explains. “It was at this same time that I started the ‘Garden of Roses’ as a large, soft sculpture, temporary installation.”

The ‘Garden of Roses’ project is made of hand dyed, painted, or pure fabrics made from canvas, cotton, and muslin. The

fabric is ripped into strips and dipped into an archival quality glue. Then, she forms the fabric into rose designs varying in

color, shape, and size. Andrea would then mount them on canvas or panel. “I love for my art to be beautiful, colorful, and

textural working with pattern and repetition to create unity,” says Andrea of her creative process. “I like for my work to

create an illusion and for it to connect to the viewer.” She continues to work with a variety of techniques. Exploration, risk

taking, change, and growth have all contributed to the techniques that she uses in her work today. “Sharing my inner light,

passion, and imagination is my way of making important connections.”

Van Gogh For all practical purposes, I should not be or consider myself an artist. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas

A&M University with a degree in Marketing in 1989. I had a very successful career in the energy business and now I split

my time between our cattle ranch in Crockett, Texas and my cabin in the mountains in Gilbert, Arkansas; but here I am

following the words of one of my famous artist and painting. Largely a self-taught artist, I prefer to work with watercolors

and ink. I appreciate the vibrant colors and details I get using this combination. I don’t want to be constrained by one

medium; but let the subject I am painting inspire what medium I use. When I paint, the world around me goes away and I

am totally at peace with myself (and having many life tragedies) – this is why I paint! I primarily paint people, animals and

nature landscapes; these are the things that inspire me. I love to look at a photograph of a person and try to interpret and

tell their story through my painting. I also want to push the boundaries of what people consider beautiful and show that

we all are beautiful in our own light. One thing is for certain, being able to explore my art as a second career has made me

appreciate every minute of my journey and I look forward to seeing what the future holds.

Matthew Dibble Biography:Puzzled Bipeds is made up mostly of larger paintings often diptychs and triptychs, which have a public, mural-like

presence. And while their crisply layered materials, attractive weathered tints and half-tones lure the viewer toward

them for a close look, they remain anything but intimate. Dibble deploys tangled linear forms on top of physical layers of

detail. These details are textual in part, recalling classic modernist collage techniques. Skin-like sheets of newspaper

seal the canvas, or sometimes Dibble uses blueprints, or dress patterns. Delicate substrates of background “information”

– unreadable columns of text, photographs that sometimes reveal an anonymous modern face -- act as counterpoint to

Dibble’s developing imagery, which is just recognizable as the distorted outlines of human or animal limbs, knotted across

the picture plane or distilled into separate creatures. If his abstract paintings bring the dimensions of life experience home

in candid handfuls (or at least use painterly frankness as their point of departure), the Biped milieu is diffident and fragile,

skimmed from a more subtle layer of being, as if Dibble were grafting daydreams and shadows over the gridded noise of

wakefulness.

Monica Gewurz Biography:Monica Gewurz lives and works in Vancouver, BC. Born in Peru in 1957, Monica immigrated to Canada in 1976, where she

obtained both a Bachelor of Science and Master in Landscape Architecture. She also holds a Fine Art and an Advanced

Painting Certificates from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Monica’s abstract landscapes aim to reflect truthfully

the moods of Nature. Her work draws on the exceptional landscape of the Pacific West Coast, and worldwide tribal

symbolism. Monica’s distinctive style of textural painting, in which she applies thick layers of acrylic paint and medium

with palette knives, results in a 3-D effect, suggesting organic energy, flow and movement. At the same time, she uses

multiple glazes of color, creating ephemeral atmospheric effects. Although this work is still connected to the natural

environment, these ethereal landscapes represent states of being rather than specific places, encouraging the viewer into

a mood of physical beauty and spiritual inspiration. Monica uses an earthy, quiet palette echoing the color found in metallic

patinas, Raku pottery, weathering metals and ancient glass., She uses intense turquoises, luminous teals and yellows,

haunting blues, earthy ochres and sienna’s, deep burgundies and mysterious charcoals and blacks. In addition, she also

uses metallic paints and foils to accent textures to give her paintings more luminosity. The amazing colors of the three

submitted paintings, symbolize the importance of color in our lives. Color is a language: It speaks to who we are, how we

feel. Color is one of the most fulfilling elements in our lives. Color can attract our attention or change your mood. Color can

help to facilitate and fulfil some very basic human needs. The use and arrangement of color enable us to create beauty and

harmony and express our personal taste. Color makes our life more beautiful. Her work is in private collections in Canada

the US and internationally.

Kong Ho Biography:Kong Ho utilizes his bicultural background as a teaching artist professionally trained in both Chinese and Western

visual art. Ho earned a M.F.A. in painting and drawing at Texas Tech University in May 1994. Since then, he taught as art

professor and practicing artist at several universities, including USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry,

Saskia Huitema Biography:Saskia Huitema, a self taught artist, works from her home in Utrecht, central in the Netherlands where she lives with her

husband, daughter and cat. Saskia grew up in a small city in Friesland, the Northern part of the Netherlands. She spent

most of her time reading and rereading all the books in the children’s section of the library before moving on to adult books.

It was all about getting lost in other worlds. Saskia became a pharmacist, but once settled, something was missing. She

became very interested in art en developed a keen visual sense. When she finally picked up brushes in 2009 she found

herself again with a never-ending passion like she had discovered as a child in reading. Saskia works mostly with acrylics

on canvas or panels. Saskia started out with realistic still lifes and florals to teach herself how to observe and translate

to canvas. Currently Saskia’s favorite subject is her daughter who models for her and undergoes multiple transformations

according to the theme of the piece. Saskia’s realistic pieces- often with a touch of fantasy- evoke a mood of mystery

and enchantment. Her distinctive realistic portraits call for attention as the gaze is automatically drawn towards the

portrayed and lingers there as colorful details of dress and fabrics are taken in. Fashion photography and nature are a

source of inspiration. Saskia exhibits in galleries internationally, Art Fairs and at “Museum De Fundatie” in 2017. Her works

have been nominated by jury in the national Dutch competition “Painting of the Year” in 2015 and 2016 and by the jury

of ZomerExpo in 2017. “In my art I aim to portray beauty and emotions, weave tales and connect with nature. I find my

inspiration in flora and fauna, girls becoming women, Art Nouveau and the bygone era of the ‘Roaring Twenties’. I seek to

evoke the sense of mystery, wonder and enchantment which can be found all around us if you just look hard enough.”

Curator Review: My Underwater Love Painted with great honesty in a detailed and direct manner, artist Saskia Huitema has constructed a delicate portrait of

intimate romanticism. This imaginative work weaves organic elements of warm and cool hues throughout the entire piece

creating equity beneath a veil of emotion. The poetic title most certainly parallels those ‘layers’ of longing and desire,

Narumi Ii Biography:I am a Nerikomi ceramic artist based in Gold Coast, Australia. For me, Nerikomi is like painting a 3D canvas - I don’t repeat

the patterns and my colour choices are made from intuition and not from test tiles. I initially make all the major colours

then keep mixing and changing the saturation levels - similar to a painting process. This results in using much more

colours of clay than traditional Nerikomi technique which is unique to my style. About 80 colours and shades are used in

this vase “Hidden Equilibrium”.

Curator Review: Hidden EquilibriumIn Hidden Equilibrium artist Narumi Ii gives the viewer a private glimpse into her singular creation. li’s flowing sculpture

leads the eye into a naturally merging vortex of speckled, garden-like forms. This eloquent composition feels effortless and

Janice Leahy Biography:in somnis veritas. I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a child taking group lessons at the Tringale Studio of Art in

Woburn, MA. I studied business in college for economic purposes (though I was accepted at two art schools; New England

School of Art & Design and Montserrat College of Art). I did manage to fit in a few classes at the DeCordova Museum

School in the early eighties. In 2008, I had a brain stem stroke caused by an aneurysm. I had impairments to my entire right

side (art hand). It took many months of physical therapy to overcome the various impairments. I couldn’t draw a straight

line and had to relearn everything all over again. I evolved into a different artist. I switched mediums to acrylics. I am

thankful for every day I breathe. I believe my works reflect that.

Ashlyn Metcalf Biography:Acrylic painter Ashlyn Metcalf uses narrative as the driving force behind her work. Interested in creation myths, the hero’s

journey, and dark themes she uses representational painting to create a world of magical realism. Photography has always

been present in her work for painting reference, but recently Metcalf has started to incorporate photos that can stand

alongside her narrative paintings. In progress is her Nova B-28 series that explores themes such as the contrast of day to

night, axis mundi, and a strong female character that tumbles head long into ‘the other side’. In the piece ‘Guardian’ Metcalf

incorporated the use of pink fluorescent paint on the back of the work. When hung with lights behind it, reflective pink

color gives ‘Guardian’ an ethereal glow. Nova B-28 is an in progress series that starts with photography, beginning the story

in the day and takes you through to night, paintings take over where photos leave off. And further down the line paintings

become more cut out and wild. Metcalf is currently working on this series.

Banafsheh Mobarak Biography:I graduated in Electrical Engineering but I have been painting for such a long time. Painting was my passion since I was a

little one. My media is oil. I love to focus on details of nature or anything around me, and then I create my piece of art. So

I consider my artwork’s category realism. I like playing with colors and show how colors could have a powerful role in our

everyday lives. Trying to transfer this message to the audience through my works is part of my goal. I participate different

Mallorie Ostrowitz Biography:Mallorie was born and grew up in NYC. She was fortunate enough to study art at the City University of New York; graduating

with a B.A. in Fine Arts from Queens College and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Herbert Lehman College. She began

showing her photography in the late 1990’s throughout the United States and has been an elected member of Artworks

Gallery in Hartford, West Hartford Art League, Connecticut Women Artists, and now, Voice of Art Gallery. Mallorie has also

exhibited at the Worrell Gallery in Santa Fe in 2012 where her photography and Betsy Ranck’s paintings of abandoned

buildings throughout New Mexico were the featured show entitled “Elegy New Mexico”. Mallorie has been teaching

photography since 2003 and was privileged to be photographer in residence at the Awasi Hotel in San Pedro, Atacama

region of Chile, in the summer of 2010. In pursuit of new and unique images, Mallorie has traveled to South America,

Europe, Russia and Scandinavia. Artist Statement: My work focuses on the intimate landscape; I get close in, often within

inches of the subject, in order to see the subtleties of the design of the particular earth surface. For me, the landscape is

often a vehicle to create an abstraction by finding the dominant design element in each surface and using that element to

create the composition. For me, photography is not a literal translation of our world, but rather, a means of interpretation.

When I slow down and take the time to look closely at ordinary objects in nature as well as man made forms, I’m in awe at

all the inherent design: I’m always on the lookout for the interplay of line and form, form and color, color and texture. I see

endless possibilities in the bark of a tree, crevices of rock, flow of water, flow of a building.

Lillian Pennypacker Biography:Hi, how are you? I grew up in a family of artists. My mother is a painter and my father restores art. They have been a huge

influence on me over the years and I’m so grateful to have been exposed to great works of art at such a young age. Today

in my work, I focus on color as a means to express emotion. I value process as something that keeps me constantly

motivated. My latest work includes a lot of improv. I start with an image from nature like water. From there I work for

sometimes weeks on the underpainting. I then find the image from shapes and movement that naturally occurs. This

creates a more abstract and emotional piece. Thank you!

Patricia Westman Biography:I started painting with pastels in 2016 after a 40 year hiatus from the art scene. It has been a journey of re-discovering

the mental and physical pleasure I get from immersion again into the world of art. Every day I struggle to improve my

art and to find my vision of the world around me. This attitude frees me to explore and experiment with pastels, my new

chosen media. I live in an incredibly beautiful part of the world, Sonoma County California. And since there is no competing

with Mother Nature, I am trying to focus on land and seascape interpretation through color, form, and texture. When

selecting subject matter, I am most drawn to depicting dramatic lights and shadows and movement throughout the

Laurie Yehia Biography:Yehia’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows, selected for awards on ARTslant.com, and featured in online and

a grid-like foundational structure for exploration. The repeated forms can be recognized as functional wall plates with

openings for switches that are not physically there, alluding to inner spaces where shifts and changes can happen. In this

way, the objects retain traces of their functionality while their new configuration is open to multiple interpretations. Or

they may simply be experienced as they are.”

Sachi Yoshimoto Biography:My name is Sachi Yoshimoto. I’m a self-taught artist from Tokyo, Japan. My medium of choice is oil. I love to paint

Liliana Zavaleta Biography:I was born in Lima, Peru (1952) and grew up in New Jersey and New York. After graduating from high school, I studied

languages at Rutgers University, New Jersey and Université de Tours, Tours, France receiving a Double Major in French

and Spanish Languages and Literature with a Minor in Art History. I received my MA degree from New York University in

Latin American Literature before moving to the Near East and Europe where I worked as an ESL teacher (English as a

Second Language), studied languages and travelled during two and a half years. Upon returning to New York City, I studied

photography and darkroom printing techniques at the International Center of Photography and later was accepted full-

time at Parson’s School of Design and received a Communication Arts degree. I worked as a Graphic Designer and Creative

Art Director after art school, first full-time, then freelance, working in NYC, Upstate NY and then later in Chile, receiving

several awards for my work: Editorial and Marketing Awards, Honorable Mentions, a Best Brochure Design Award including

the Best of Show Award from the Art Director’s Club of New York. In 1992 I moved to South America with my husband and

two children where I had been hired to be the Director of the Design Department at a large advertising agency in Santiago,

Chile. In 1996 I left the Advertising world and began drawing and painting with teachers Paula Salas and later, Jorge

Kuhn. I became a full time visual artist. I’ve attended art workshops both in the US and South America, and also attended

a Residency at Vermont Studio Center. My work has been exhibited in both Chile and the US. Currently, I divide my time

between Santiago, Chile and Upstate NY.
